    There are micro USB rechargable 18650 batteries I use them and love them!

    • @dowtech
      @dowtech 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the micro USB plugs directly into the battery?? That would be awesome! A lot of the new flashlights can recharge without the need for an external charger, but to direct recharge the battery -- if it had built in regulation ...

    Their web site is indeed poor, but we own a couple other models and are happy with them. We especially like the memory feature. The strobe is for self-defense or walking at night and being visible to cars. It's a valuable feature.

    I do partially agree with you on the availability of the type of battery's but the thing is if you were out with people there are many different methods of charging 18650 battery's if you buy the right equipment. I am currently using a Nitecore p12 1000 lumens for 50 bucks. It's one of the most compact lights for it's output. Which we outdoor people tend to seek. Great video man.

    Picked up a pack of three (350 lumens) at Costco for $21 Can. Still going to have to pick a couple of these up though, can't have too many flashlights (or knives).

    Reminds me of the 3 pack of Cree flashlights that Costco usually offers for around $20. (a non tactical version of those lights.) This looks like a good glove box. or hang it by the back door sort of a flashlight. Too bad Anker does not offer a single AA flashlight. (I personally prefer a single AA over this 3 AAA's loaded into a "magazine" sort of arrangement. Thanks for the video.

    That strobe is indeed designed as a self defense tool and the fast strobe is to be desired....over a slower sequencing.

    Good review. It's so good to see Anker and Atactical making good quality flashlights for a bargain price.

    I see a lot of complaints about a pocket clip. There's actually an updated tactical model of the LC40 & LC90, both of which are rechargeable. The LC40 now has a clip and is rechargeable, the LC90 is still rechargeable but has twice the cells for 30hr use time. They're available on Amazon now.

    That fast random strobe is one of the best I have seen. It is definitely for disorientation during CQB. Not sure what else you would want the strobe for.

    i picked up a non name light that uses 3AAAs or the 18650 at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA. they charged me 20.00, got the battery, two AAA holders, and the charger. The light has 3 modes, and is rated at 2,000 lumens. A little bit bigger than they one you are showing. amazon now lists it for 12.99 without the batter.
    And I agree that if i can't readily get the batteries at a local convenience store, i'm not likely to go for it. but i couldn't pass this deal up :)

    Oh, and the strobe feature is meant to be for self-defense. The thought process is that the strobe effect will not only be blinding to an assailant but disorienting as well.

    There's no design flaw at lanyard attachment - just loosen the lanyard loop and move it aside a little for stable vertical stand on flat surfaces.

    Not a bad flashlight, especially since you can get a 2 pack from Amazon for like $22. I tested against my tn12 and lc40 is just a little bit brighter than the 2nd highest setting on the tn12. It's not really made for the flashlight geeks, but it's better than just about any pocket sized flashlight at walmart.

    That modes program appears to be the same one that has been used in many cheap Chinese lights for many years. Not enough difference between high and low, and a crappy strobe.

    I like Anker power bank's and a$10 Flashlight, Cool. I know it's only a $10 FL, but a Strobe to disorient must have longer seconds of darkness, alot slower.

    I'm pretty sure it won't do the 400 lm on the AAA batteries....to get the 400lm brightness you'd need to use the 18650's as you need the 3.7V to get it up that high....

    What is the STANDARD for lumens , with flashlights ?
    250 or higher ??
    a 100 watt (W) incandescent bulb, gives you about1600 lumens.
    600 Lumen = 400 Incandescent light bulb watts = 10 W Led Flourescent /led watt

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kanzee there is no standard that I am aware of.

    This flashlight would be perfect, if it wasnt for the terrible design decision to cycle the modes every time you turn the damn thing on. It means you basically get a random mode when you turn it on, since you have no idea what mode it was last turned off after. So if you enjoy turning on your flashlight to a stupid strobing effect, this might be the flash light for you. If not, then just dont buy this. I regret buying two of these before I realized how annoying it is to use.

  • @michaelmorris1802
    @michaelmorris1802 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dude, I almost don't even believe you don't use 18650's... you need to rethink that, and get off the old alkaline batteries. Lithium is the only way to go! I promise you, if you get into decent quality 18650's you will never go back.

    Just another cheapo, generic, Made in China light. I've seen that body style used on countless flashlights. All made in the same company in China, just with different brand names tacked onto the body. Pick a brand, any brand. slap it on. Bright? Sure. Then again, Bright & Cheap is the easiest trick in the world to pull off. Thing is, you don't get quality tossed in for free. A lesson many have learned the hard way.
    As far as Lumens? No, you're not getting 400. Two reasons, one is based on the human's eye inability to distinguish lumen levels in general. Along with the fact that it can be tricked. A brighter light geared for flood, will appear considerably dimmer next to a weaker light that has an intense hot-spot and is geared for throw.
    Second is due to industrialized fraud that goes on in most of the flashlight industry but in all of the factories based in China. A handful of brands at the very most measure output properly. Namely when the reflector or optic is installed, and with the lens and bezel in place. To get an accurate rating requires the use of an integrating sphere. Very expensive! Most flashlight companies don't have one. None of the Chinese companies have one. So, you have institutionalized fraud (yes, that's what it is). Basically, output is measured at the emitter. Readings are taken before the reflector or optic is in place. Without the bezel or lens in place either.
    This is significant because output before all of that in place is always brighter than after they are installed. And since no one uses their light without those items in place, you get ridiculously over-inflated output numbers. Often actual output is anywhere from half of the stated emitter lumens to 1/3 less of the stated lumens (if you're lucky). Then you have the fact that it's the worst secret in the industry that some just make up emitter lumens numbers. Why?.... Once again, the human eye is a horrendously poor indicator of actual lumens. Cclose only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. The human eye can't even come close to being able to distinguish actual output.
    China being able to pull off bright & cheap with their lights is like a working girl being able to pull off attractive & cheap. In both cases, there's nothing of substance underneath. Look elsewhere if quality matters.
