    First, just because 😉. Looks like the acrylic is laser cut, normally this doesnt leave a very smooth finish which causes bubbles when welding.

    What a cool idea. I think such a small tank might be easier to maintain..you can just do 30-50% water change every week whenever you do a water change on your bigger displays..I'm sure it would be quick to do as well. That should keep things stable and level.
    The only thing that might be a pain, would be the evaporation..you may need an ATO otherwise the water evaporation may be high and you need to top up more than once a day (maybe)..putting an ATO may make it difficult to hide the equipment (maybe). Keen to see what you do Ross..
    However this gives me an idea to setup a Pico freshwater tank ..maybe sit it near the window on the tv stand. Always wanted to try one!

    • @BeardedReef
      @BeardedReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate, yeah I thought so too, something a little different anyway, building the kit will be really satisfying too I think! A 1L water change every week should be more than enough I hope, not entirely sure what I'm going to do for an ATO yet, will do some tests first and see how it does. You should get one too and do a freshwater set up then show us the results 👍

It's the sacrifice when you got a young kid lol, time to yourself...your hobbies takes a hit. Let me learn and how you get on, this could even be a great idea for a small frag or anemone only tank..looking forward to seeing what you stock and your aquascape etc!

    • @BeardedReef
      @BeardedReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that could work providing the evaporation rate isn't too slow, and the change in evaporation due to temperature, I will play around and see how it goes

    I've not long got back into the hobby (only 3 weeks lol) ,I use to have a 5x2x2 reef tank over 15+ years ago when UDA in Cupar was my go to shop but that's been closed for a lot of years now .really been enjoying your vids Ross (recently subbed) and amazed how much reefing has changed over the years . Really happy to find out about Nessie's Lair from your vids so will be making that my LFS from now on as its only a 20 min drive from me .I bought an Aqua One mini reef 120 so looking forward to getting it stocked up soon . I was that impressed with your tank especially the lighting that I have bought the same hd16 light as yours and hopefully it will be here before friday . Anyway keep up the good work Ross and who knows I might bump into you one day at the lfs lol 👍

      Hello Rab, welcome back to the hobby, I bet you can't wait to get things going again! Thanks for watching the videos and also for subscribing, it means a lot! Or make a macro algae refugium for one of your tanks, but probably cheaper ways to do this

    • @BeardedReef
      @BeardedReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm honest I'm not 100% sure yet, probably stick to soft corals, something quite tough/resilient and think I will add either a crab or shrimp to it, its hard to decide

    I'm going to sound like a stick in the mud......but why buy one of these? Firstly, I would take a punt that probably 90% of these tanks end in failure....its like buying something to watch it die. Secondly, it's promoting something that shouldn't be done. Thirdly, £45 squids and you don't even get the pump with it. Not for me this one ( hay just my opinion 😬.......and looking forward to the waterbox build ✌)

    • @BeardedReef
      @BeardedReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Andy, thanks for the comment, to answer your questions, I got one of these tanks as a challenge to see if I could manage to keep a healthy system in such a small volume, yes it will be difficult but it's something ove wanted to do, ive seen many successful pico tanks so it inspired me to try my own, also the fact it is a kit made it more appealing to me as building it yourself is more rewarding in my opinion, I dont feel like I'm promoting something that shouldn't be done, I won't be having fish in here and if anything I think people will see how hard it actually is, I'm under no illusion that this going to be easy, far from it, its going to be extremely hard, but it's something I really want to try. As for the price I think £45 is nothing for this kit, you couldn't go out for a meal for less than that now so I feel like £45 on a tank is fair, the time and effort that went into designing and producing these kits is also reflected in the price,
      to summarise,
      will it fail? Quite possibly but only time will tell
      will I learn from this? 100% I will,
      Is it worth paying £45 for? I believe so yes!
      Thanks for watching the video and commenting, hopefully you can follow along and see this one progress, I know its not for everyone tho and value your opinions! 👍

    • @ASBsweet
      @ASBsweet 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeardedReef that's fair enough man, I really hope the mini tank is a success.
      I'm not one for being negative, I hardly have a bad word to say about anything in reefing but this is one part of the hobby I will never understand, and it surprises me how many people are interested in it.
      It first kicked off from the mini complete tank which was ridiculous and just a gimmick, unfortunately I just see this as the same thing just slightly bigger.
      All being said I am writing this in self isolation stuck in one room for 10 days (not after violins here lol...), It's probably one reason I'm going all Victor Meldrew.......😐.
      I hope it does work, take it steady ✌️
