13:00 you can totally reglaze the rim and refire it to make it foodsafe :) also if you need to reglaze a small area that doesn't have to be foodsafe (like the bottom of a bowl or something) you can just use paint and clear nail polish to fix it up, no refiring required (i work at a pottery studio lol)

Wait!! You can negotiate the sample prices for manufacturing, I always ask before working with them how many revisions can be made for one sample cost. You can also ask them if they refund sample costs after you make a large order!

A lot of unglazed pottery is actually still food safe-it just depends on the type of clay and temperature it was fired to!

for ceramics : you can reglaze / refire multiple times if needed !
You can also sand it a bit if the rim is too rough, i would sand it with some water, clean it, then reglaze (and you can resand after the refire too if that's still too rough to drink from, if you don't over do it + use water, it shouldn't damage the glaze but just help polishing it)
Also heating up the piece with a heat gun before reglazing will help the new glaze to stick on the non pourous already glazed parts, but no worries if you don't, just let it dry longer 🧡

Yes, you can refire! I also recommend you to compress the rim of your pieces so that they are smooth. I use a piece of a thicker plastic bag for that, a lot of potters use a piece of leather. Or you can slightly sand it after bisque. Then even if the glaze doesn't completely cover it (which is no big deal btw), it will still be a nice experience to drink out of 🎉 You got this!

Pottery was used way before glaze was around - and even after, without it. Afaik, there is no danger drinking/ eating out of an unglazed ceramic cup/ plate, etc.

I was a ceramics major in college and find working with polymer clay to be soooooo hard!! I like the convenience of it and that the results are more guaranteed but it's much harder to actually sculpt with imo. But I'm getting used to it, and I'm sure that in time you will get used to ceramics as well!

You should consider sending your manu a front, side and back view of your plushie. Makes the process much easier as the manu as a better idea what to go off of. I'd also recommend making extra graphics for important details.
