- Most blokes toil away on tinnies and 15ft Crapcrafts before laying tools on their first big project, but - amazingly - this 1986 custom Bertram 25 Express is Byron’s first boat! Fortunately, he had some help from one of his best buddies, Jack McKenzie of Finesse Marine.

This is a really funny thing but this is my dads old boat Odin. Its so cool to see how much effort you have put into this project and you have given this amazing boat a new life I remember as a young boy going on weekend trips with my family and having an amazing time love to new look looks absolutely amazing mate 👍🏻

These old Bertie hulls are a good base for a project. Funny when I purchased mine I towed it the other way from Qld to Vic.

That boat needs a set of trim tabs. Trimmed out properly it'll ride like a whole nother boat. Nice job though. Very nice work.

Interesting to see. I have a 28’ Bertram, I’m weighing up my options with it......!? It’s currently shaft drive, with twin V8’s. If it was stern drive, I wouldn’t even hesitate to to add outboards on a pod. Twin 300’s on a 25’ would fly! There was one converted here and fitted with twin 200, 2 stroke outboards about 25 years ago. It went hard enough! Great work, thanks for sharing. 😎🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺

This is exactly what I was planning to do, the thing that killed the project for me was having to rent a shed/workshop for a couple of years and that made it uneconomical. Ended up buying a Boston Whaler 255 Conquest and re powered with Suzuki 200’s with digital controls......
Awesome job! All that work, trailer and two 300 Suzies for "$130k" .... that would have cost $200k+ here in New Zealand.

I thought the same. But you factor in 18 months of work. I'd be curious how many hours were put into it. It is an incredible build to say the least.
Did you move the gas tank? How many gallons? Just asking because of the weight shift with 2 zukes off the back.

Yes, the finished boat is something to be proud of but aren't those fuel burn rates somewhat excessive for a boat that size running at that speed? Im not trying to stir things up it just sounds like an offshore fishing trip would cost a fortune. I thought those hulls were known for a great ride and decent fuel economy.

Hi, I own a Bertram (USA) 25 with 2 X 175 hp Mercury optimax. It is doing 24 knots cruising at 4000 revs (40L/h for both). I am looking at re-powering my boat with 2 x 4 strokes outboards. I am thinking of Mercury V8 or Suzuki V6. Which brand would be your preference? I am hesitating between 200's or 225's. Would you have any hints or info on performance & fuel consumption differences? I'd appreciate your thoughts please. Thanks
I AM DOING ONE IN STUART FLORIDA. SUZUKI IS SPONSORING THE PROJECT. Everyone recommends going with the 200's and staying at the 4 cylinder level. With the Armstrong bracket and Lenco tabs I am told the boat will move over 50 mph. Going to a Suzy 225 you step up to a V-6 which is not necessary. Alan Jackson (singer) did one however with twin 300's mounted on a jack plate and I was told it turns 65 mph.
