- Today's flight is about wines from Australia and New Zealand! Well, we've done Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand before so it's going to be mainly Australian. Though there's a bit of a problem here... Peter is distracting me with his words again! I've got to get some work done somehow!
Penfolds does it again ... Their entry level wines are great value for money.

D’Arenberg Dead Arm is my favourite wine of all time. I had a 2006 bottle recently which had been well cellared and it was the most memorable wine experience of my life. They’re an iconic Australian brand always overshadowed by the bigger producers and always outperforming them.

I tried that penfolds wine before and really enjoyed it! It's nice to know which wines I've tasted and like that are high quality or not. Definitely helps me learn more about the wine! 🍷

Funny story..a friend of mine went to a blind tasting a while ago and a recent vintage Koonunga hill shiraz was preferred to a 20 year old Grange by all that attended.
Grange is a marketing success, only a few vintages are truly good.

The Barossa Valley is well known, the wines are too big and bold - for me anyway.

How about a tasting of some ‘exotic’ wines? (E.g. South African Pinotage, Greek red, Uruguayan Tannat, etc.)
와인 까막눈에서 지금까지 와인킹님 영상을 보며 즐거워 지는 이유는 대륙별 와인 생산지와 그곳에서 생산되는 와인의 특징을 익혀가는 거예요 억지로 외우지 않아도 즐겁게 보다보면 10개 중에 하나정도는 외우게 되더라고요 신나요~!

다렌버그 맥파이 쉬라즈 비오니에 2013빈티지는 맛있게 마셨는데 2015빈티지가 조금 문제가 있었나봐요..ㅠㅠ
펜폴즈는 역시.. 호주의 국보급 대형 와이너리인 만큼 저가형도 맛있게 만드네요^^
뉴질랜드 피노누아의 최고 산지로 센트럴 오타고를 말씀하시는거에 공감되요! 개인적으로 마틴버로도 좋지만
센트럴 오타고는 가격 대비 고품질의 피노누아를 만들기에 적합한 떼루아인거 같아요!

Great to see some tasting from NZ other than Sauvignon! Though surely dedicate a tasting to some of the variety in high quality NZ pinot noir? Good examples from Marlborough are still in few and far between... Martinborough is where it is at!
Is there a list of wines that Peter recommends and a store or website he thinks is best?

다렌버그 래핑 맥파이를 장터에서 사서 마셨는데 분명 맛있고 잘 만든 것 같은데 모가 난 느낌이 강해서 결국 다 마시지 못했어요. 그 다음날 마셨는데도 모가 난 느낌이 더 강해져서 결국 버렸어요. 승리앞에서 무릎을 꿇었다는 표현이 이해가 갑니다.

Guys, living in New Zealand, I could not agree more with all the points, and when you were pulling out the bottle of the red you both liked and Peter said there is Shiraz, a thought flashed across my mind "it is Koonunga Hill" (under 15 nzd). I am not good at wines but Australians have also Shiraz called McGuigan. It costs 7 New Zealand dollars (cheapest in NZ) and I believe it might be semi-dry, but very close to Koonunga hill, would be interesting to see what you guys think. Totally agree on NZ red (equals crap). Thanks a lot for this episode!
Everything in South Australia in terms of wine isn't very far from each other Clare Valley Barossa Valley Mclaren Vale Eden Valley being the main ones. In terms of Australia they are very close to each other all in South Australia and about in a 2 to 3 hour distance at most.

I am so with you on the Craggy Range Te Kahu! I gave it a much lower score than everyone else, and was worried I was missing something. But you both have made me much more confident in my opinions. This is what I said:
"This was hugely disappointing. On opening this was a $10 bottle of wine. Completely flat and lacking definition. With time it opened a little to reveal some vanilla and dark fruit, but really nothing of distinction and nothing worth anything like the asking price. For me this is a wine riding on reputation rather than quality."
Australian riesling tends to be fantastic and fantastic value.The Great Southern area of Western Australia produces some really exceptional ones.Perfect with seafood.
Clare Valley in SA produces much better. One of the 3 best Riesling growing ares in the entire WORLD.
Crawford River is better than all of them.
I agree, the Penfolds wine at that price is really good. Picked up a bottle of d'arenberg Wild Pixie Shiraz for £10 & thought that was exceptional value!
