    As far as I've seen, you live in an exotic part of the US. We would really love to see some photos with the D7000 illustrating your surroundings: street, city, nature, beach, mountain, anything! 🥹

      Hi Andu Dan,
      Yes I kinda do live in a semi exotic area. I live in Southern California. We have a lot of tropical plants, palm trees, coastal areas with sea lions, botanical gardens and nice beaches with the mountains a couple hours away. I’ll definitely make a video on trip in the near future on some of my surroundings so you and others can see what Kris’s world is all about haha. It will be a great opportunity to get out and use my camera and share my photos with everyone. Thank you for the great idea! Take care friend. Kris

      @@Kris_World Thanks for the opportunity to ask you questions. Between this 1.5-inch-thick book on the D7000, and your videos, I am starting to feel comfortable with my D7000, D300, D80, and D60. I used to think that my D60 was a complex camera to understand. Compared to my D7000, my D60 is a relatively easy to understand.
      I do have some more questions for you. I purchased a D80 and it worked for a while until it got the shutter err code. It was a VERY old camera which was extremely well used. I got it for only $15.00 from a friend, so no big loss. Anyway, I tried everything external to fix it without any luck. Next, I took it apart being VERY careful with the capacitor. I do like taking things apart just to see what makes them tick, besides, what is the worst thing that can happen....I can only break it more. After my "camera autopsy" I concluded that it is really not cost effective to try and fix the camera if you consider time and parts. Besides, if I screw up the job, I lost everything. Finally, for a few bucks more you can just get another D80 for just $87.00 and take your chances that it does not break, unless you add another $50.00 for a 4-year warrantee if you buy from KEH. All this said here are my questions for you.
      Question 1: Do agree with trying everything external to fix the camera and then just sell it for parts?
      Question 2: Do you agree that fixing the D80 is "just not worth the time or expense." Such time is better spent learning how to take better photos.
      Queston 3: Have you tried to fix the shutter error internally? How did that turn out?
      Question 4: For me these cameras are relatively simple to fix, just takes a lot of time. Do you know of any on line class, or easy to understand repair books, on how to fix these old DSLR cameras.
      Question 5: How do people usually learn how to fix these DSLR cameras.
      You are a good man. I do understand that your answers are just your recommendations. I plan to continue to watch your videos because they are VERY user friendly. I feel that we are two pals, and you are in the room helping me with my photography. Maybe even better, because I can rewatch some parts over and over again until I get it. Thanks for all that you do.
      🙂

      @DavidGarcia-cq5kl Hi David! You're welcome! I really appreciate your questions and will do my best to answer them. I'm so happy you are starting to feel comfortable with your cameras, and happy that my videos are helping you. I have all those those cameras that you listed, the only difference is that I have the D300s, so if you have any questions about those cameras as well I will do my best to answer any questions you might have as well.
      From what it sounds like for the Nikon D80, it sounds identical to the problem I have with mine. It shows the error code on the top LCD. I did some tinkering and discovered though that its not the shutter as I once thought it was. It is actually the aperture control unit within the camera. So yours might have the same issue as mine. After you took yours apart did it still show the same err code? I myself missed my camera so much because of the picture quality that I bought another copy from MPB. It is one of the cameras that I learned photography on besides my first DSLR the D60.
      Question 1: As for selling it for parts, you may get something out of it but probably not much. I would say the part that might really sell would be the image sensor but it would need to be protected from dust and other particles.
      Question 2: If you have the time to take it apart and remember where everything goes and know exactly what is wrong with the camera then I would say it is worth it. Not only are you learning about how its made and how it works but it might be a fun challenge. The end result is, you then will know what you did to fix it and the
      how to replace parts if needed in the future.
      Question 3: I have not tried to fix it yet, but would like to try to see if I can and when I do I will defiantly make a video about it even if I fail.
      Question 4: Unfortunately I do not know of any repair books available to fix old DSLRs just know that there is TH-cam content that covers the process on some models. I haven't really found a good one that covers what I need to know yet.
      Question 5: I think that people usually learn how to fix these cameras by trial and error. They take them apart and try not to break anything in the process. I attempted and succeeded with taking an old Olympus lens apart because it had mildew and haze in it. I took it apart and cleaned it and now have a nice sharp, clear 28mm lens.
      Thank you so much for the very nice compliments in your message. I really appreciate the support. If for any reason you would like a specific camera video let me know. I will do my best to achieve the results that you are looking for. It takes me a little longer to make videos unfortunately because I do work full time, but I love helping others with the things I do know. Hope these answers to your questions have helped you. Feel free to ask more if you have any.
      I hope all is well today and that you are enjoying your weekend!

      @@Kris_World When I took apart my D80 it was a mess, a real mess. The screws were rusted and had to be drilled out. Once I got the back off the camera, I found even more rust. At that point I knew that this camera could not be fixed and trashed it.
      Anyway, I did get another D80 off of ebay and it works, but not really great. When I was walking around taking photos, I got another shutter err code. So, I tinkered around with it and found that if I turn it off, mess with the shutter, put the lens back on, it works great for 3 to 8 shots after which I have to repeat this routine. In view of this I decided to just use it to take micro photo at home. I did clean the contacts, and did everything external, and I did get it to work better. However, currently it still shows a shutter err code. To fix this I just have to press the shutter release button until it goes away. It typically takes about 2 to 4 button presses. I can live with this; besides I have my D60, D300, and D7000 which have no such problems.
      In closing, I do have two more questions for you:
      Question 1: I was thinking of purchasing another D80 from “Buyee.” However, I have heard various mixed reviews of using this sight. I have purchased from MPB and KEH with outstanding results. I was thinking of using “Buyee” since they have D80s for what appears to be VERY reasonable prices. Do you have any experiences from “Buyee” that you can share?
      Question 2: Knowing the cameras that I have (D60, D300, D7000, and D80) do you think I should purchase at Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ30? Seems like an amazing camera and I REALLY love the LICA 12x lens (35-420 mm equiv). Even more, I like that the lens is an internal zoom. From what I understand the LICA lens on this camera is one of the best. This said, I have also heard that the photo quality is not the best. Anyway, if you could share your thought on this camera it would be apricated.

      @@Kris_World I shoot with a Nikon AF nokkor 50mm 1.4 D and it never has left the camera lol. I’m pretty lucky to have this camera my husband best friend had it just sitting around and just gave it to me one day. I had the d3200 with the 50mm 1.8 G on it. I love the 7000 but if I can’t figure out the focus idk. Thanks so much for getting back to me I appreciate it.

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@karenfuson6426 That's a very nice lens. I have the 50mm 1.8 the non D version, and the D version. But the F/1.4 is a much better lens. That's so cool that he gave you that camera! That was very nice of your husband's friend! Now as far as the focus goes with the D7000, sometimes with particular lenses you have to create an autofocus fine tune profile. It's kind of a detailed process so I will make a short video on it so you can follow along and create a profile for this lens and others. Sometimes the reason a lens won't focus correctly is because the camera and the lens aren't communicating with one another properly. So we have to educate the camera on how to do this the right way. It just so happens I have another D7000 and a lens that is not focusing on it as well. I will try to get that video done soon, between my work week so hopefully it might solve your problem. You are very welcome, I'm always glad to try and help. 😁

    Hi Would it be possible to ask for some advice we have just bought a D7000 and we cant seem to get to auto focus at all. Also the AF assists light will not come on. We have made the settings the same as what you have. The lense we have is a AF P 18-55mm DX VR
    thanks

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @user-tq6vp9q8t Hi, of course! I will answer the best I can. Unfortunately I am so sorry to say this, but the version of the 18-55mm DX VR lens that you have is not compatible with the Nikon D7000 because its the AF-P version. This is more than likely why your AF assist will not come on. VR and Auto/Manual focus mode are changed in camera and the Nikon D7000 unfortunately doesn't have the menu system to change the settings for that lens. The latest version of the Nikon D7000 series that has a LIMITED compatibility with this lens is, the Nikon D7200. The camera that works best with this lens is the Nikon D7500. This lens was specially made for the video functionality and built in menu settings of the latest cameras. The latest version of this lens that will work on the Nikon D7000 is this, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II. It is super sharp and was released in 2014. You can also buy the original VR version (which is what I have) It works just fine, but I believe the new version is sharper. I hope this info helps. If you have any other questions please let me know, I'll do my best to answer them.

    Is there a 16:9 ratio or size setting for the D7000 on photos? If so, where would it be found?

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Fred Hoffman. Hi Fred, no unfortunately the Nikon D7000 doesn't offer this photo crop for photo mode on the camera. At least it's not a stated option. I am not sure about the newer Nikon models like the mirrorless models though. They could have added that feature because they are an all digital camera, so the function would be a lot easier to add, just like almost every smart phone that comes standard with it today. But however I did notice that if you look into the viewfinder with your grid turned on you can crop your composition with your grid for 16:9. At least I believe it adds up to that ratio. To check this go to (Menu - Pencil icon- shooting/display- viewfinder grid display -on). You can also go into live view and tap the (info) button below the lock button a couple times to get gray bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I believe that is a 16:9 ratio as well. SInce this camera can shoot video, I believe the intention for those bars were for that purpose, but I don't see why you can use it for photos as well. I hope this helps. Hope all is well,

    cant take indoor photos with these settings unfortunatley, just shows black. but i can use my phone for indoor photos or use another set of settings

    • @Kris_World
      @Kris_World  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @anna32268 I'm sorry to hear that the current settings don't allow you to take indoor photos and give you a black image. What lens are you using on your camera? If you use a lens that has a pretty wide open aperture like 2.8 or lower, and use a higher ISO setting like ISO 800 or higher you can then turn up your shutter speed and you will then be able to take images indoors. You just have to be careful not to turn your ISO up too high because then you will have an excessive amount of noise. The best way to use your camera is with it being stabilized on a tripod, that way you can use the aperture you want indoors with a lower ISO so you will have a nice clear picture. If you are taking pictures of people though you will need to take quick pictures so either use the settings I provided above or buy a flash to compensate for light. My best advice I have though is try to use as much natural light as possible, and use a fill in light as needed to compensate the shadows. Indoor photography can take time to understand especially if you are still learning about how your camera works. Practice on a bowl of fruit and keep taking a picture of it until you perfect the image and then try other things. It will help you learn your camera and how everything works, if you don't know already. I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions or need help please let me know. Thank you for watching!

      Hi Dave, It’s so nice to hear back from you again. Yes I was quite surprised myself when I opened the menu to see so many settings compared to my D80 I used to have. I still don’t know everything and still have much to learn about the settings myself and one of these days I need to give the manual a good read. I have my settings set to when I first set up the camera but since I have been working so much I forgot what everything means. But I love the way its set up right now. I hope you are still able to get one sometime. You will be so happy when you do. Check out MBP. That’s where I got mine. It comes with a warranty and everything and if the camera is faulty they will replace it or give you a refund. It’s such a good place to buy used gear. I believe they have one in Berlin. To be honest besides taking a picture of the moon I haven’t taken any star or Milky Way photos yet, its something I would love to find time to do. I’ve been wanting to buy a nice telescope and get a Nikon mount attachment for my camera so I can get really cool Astro photos, but I’m not there yet. Unfortunately I’m working so much my clothes never get past the dryer into my bedroom drawers. My boss has been scheduling me for too many hours. I work in a grocery store. I’m hoping for the day I can be a full time TH-cam creator, that’s my dream. I will definitely try out ISO-Low light performance as soon as I can. I think it could help a lot of people. Hope you’re doing well my friend. Times are kinda crazy right now. Take care of yourself.

    Great video but you used 1000 words to say the same thing you could have done with 100 words. Maybe I will watch the whole thing on my next lazy Sunday afternoon...

      @Harry Joseph Thank you so much! I know you are right, I only do that way for the noobs that don’t know the camera very well yet. I appreciate the input though. Take care

      @adithyapandji3840 Hey! I do indeed have an Instagram account I just started it not too long ago so I don’t have a ton of content on there yet, but you are more than welcome to check it out. To find it just go to my TH-cam Profile homepage and in the top right hand corner of the page you will see the link. I’ll be adding more content soon! Thank you for watching my video! I hope all is well!
