I done the same test yesterday and managed 1.10.1xx on every car. Loving the new RF2 content, I'm glad they finished the dash displays on the GTE's hopefully they will do the same with the GT3's.

If you need most of the content, the current sale is pretty nice. They really overhauled it to cater to new players/people with little or no DLC. Maybe a smart move, but it sucks for me lol. Regardless, you just have to grab DLC here and there. Get something now, something on Black Friday, something in Winter sale, etc. I only have most of the content now after a handful of sales.

    • @RubberStig

Agreed. I don't own any of the new paid content, and no matter how interested I am in it, it's just too steep for me to buy at present.

@@RubberStig If you like AMS the Reiza pack is $11 for 6 cars and 4 tracks. Or the endurance bundle is 7 awesome cars for $12. Honestly idk how those could be seen as overpriced or even expensive.

    • @spizzlo
      @spizzlo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

and the GT3 pack is 11 cars for $17. Tracks are most expensive at $21 for 4 tracks. Amazing tracks btw. It's really not bad during the sale. Everything together is expensive, sure, but that's why you go piecemeal. There will be another sale in a few months.

If the function of a "SIMULATOR" is to best replicate the action or experience of a specific activity then rFactor's Force Feedback, physics, and tire model makes it thee best possible "non-professional" simulated race driving platform available IMHO. Since I mostly race offline against AI or online on league servers i'm not bothered much by the limited 24/7 multiplayer options.

Really nice comparison, thanks for the time to create this! Would love to see your approach to setting up the GTEs in RF2 ... I'm new to the sim after spending a decent amount of time with ACC and iRacing, and would definitely enjoy hearing your thoughts on at least your favorite GTEs and the new BOP with more seat time. Every driver really needs his/her own setup, so it's less important to know exactly what numbers you're dialing in and more interesting to hear your real-time observations about how setup changes affect how the car responds to your inputs. Great stuff, thanks again!

GTE is probably my least favorite GT / tin top class. It’s the same experience as driving a GT3 just with a slightly higher top speed and no assists, which makes them really twitchy and unmanageable typically. The rf2 GTE’s are probably my favorite though, especially the Ferrari which is just fantastic.
It’s nice that they are adjusting the BOP and fixing up the older content, but what I would really like more than anything would be if they could do something to fix the multiplayer situation and actually fix the UI for things like creating custom championships, setting up AI fields, hosting servers, driver swaps, etc., instead of taking a year plus to do a simple re-skin...
I love rf2 but no amount of great content is going to make up for the deficiencies in core functionality that stop the game from being meaningful competition for the more popular racing sims.

Enjoyed your video, I have been testing camber across the board with settings closer to 2 with good lap time results and tire wear. I have not concluded high speed vs low speed tracks yet but feeling like high speed tracks are responding nicely to lower negative camber with better stability under braking. With that said, I have been working on “slow in, fast out” as opposed to the opposite which I am more inclined. Perhaps a better drive such as yourself can get better speed with more negative camber. My favorite car in RF2 is by far the Senna, then the 2012 F1 and a little further down, the C7R. I have not tried the new release GTE corvette yet but from what I saw in your vid, still a lot of default slop that can be cleaned up in the set up. I have a C7 in real life so I kinda force myself to like it in the virtual. What is pretty cool about that is how accurately it matches real life car characteristics in sound, front end push and a little snappy in the rear. Just hit subscribe

You mentioned you hadn't driven Portland before. Here's a hint you won't pick up following the ai: you can entirely cut that first corner over the curbs. Watch any real race here and you'll see cars an inch away from that inner wall.
Same with the turn 10/11 chicane, if you're on the tarmac you're doing it wrong. It's pretty common to not only drive right over the curbs but even hit the dirt.

I do hate the assumption that all cockpits are one and the same with your desk area (therefore close to mouse and keyboard). It's a greater issue with VR as a whole that too little thought is put into UI and like PC2 it should not be dependant on KB&M - the number of times I've just had an hour to play and after f#####g around for 45 minutes feel myself raging because I've had to keep getting in and out of my cockpit (I know first world problems)

With my T300 I've put 100 in the wheel profile and 0.75 ffb with 0 smoothing and 4% minimum ffb in the game
It works great with that number for me so you could start with them.

I like how these cars feel and sounf. They also look pretty good during the day. But seeing these cars during the night is immersion breaking for me heavily. Like there are no shades of red, green, blue. Absolutely no reflection. Each color is just glowing in only one shade. What a shame.

My complaint with RFactor2 is that it a absolutely ruins all other sim title experiences. In my opinion, this game is so far and beyond better than anything else that I have a hard time enjoying any other sim. The physics, FFB, tire modeling, just everything is absolutely incredible. Great seeing continued updates and added content!

It was at one point, but now it’s highly debatable especially when other sims have matched and even surpassed rF2 in many areas. It gets harder to defend rF2 as time goes on.

It feels the best but you'll find loads of annoyances and graphical inconsistencies, especially in vr where the driver looks like something out of a ps1 game. Be aware that there's lots of searching and downloading as some tracks aren't on the workshop.

It's the perfect time with the Steam sale. And they have really catered to new players with this one. If you're like me and already have a lot of the content, it's a huge bust. I recommend looking at the endurance bundle, GT3 pack, Reiza pack, and track expansion bundle. While it would probably see the least use in online racing, the Reiza pack for $11 is a steal IMO. 6 cars and 4 tracks (10 layouts total). All that + base game = $76 though. Even on sale, it's a lot. Personally, I built up most of the content over a few sales.

rF2 is different enough from all your other sims in the way it feels that I can't imagine not having it. The more time you spend with it, the more you appreciate it, I think. If you have a strong enough pc to handle ACC well, than rF2 should run smoothly enough for you, as some content isn't as well optimized.
      Plus, the Steam sale!

Portland’s my neighborhood track. Some of the world’s best drivers raced there. Look it up on YT and you’ll see why it made it into rF2. It has a pretty solid past. It’s known as a fast track. Especially if you take out the chicane.
We had the Camel GT with GTP, GTO and GTU. Trans AM, Indy Cars and later on ALMS came. Then the track died. No professional series at all for many years. Only club racing, drag racing and driving school stuff. All the cry babies that moved here started complaining about noise they “might” have to hear for a couple hours a couple of days once a month for three months a year. Those are also the people who brought the culture of “cars evil and bad, bicycles good and safe” driving off the car culture that once thrived in this west coast city.
Like everything here in Portland nothing is sacred or in the US anything and everything from the past must be deleted. They wanted to build condos or apartments in the infield then turn the track into a mommy and stroller walking course.
Finally in 2018 some pro series returned. The Indy cars came back as well as the Pirelli World Challenge with GT3 cars. They probably won’t be here this year. It could actually kill the track for good.

I really, really wanted to like RF2, but I think the new tracks were the nails in the coffin for me. Before I go further, let me just say that I run it in VR, so I may be taking a graphical hit to some degree. However, when I fired up Portland last night and drove around, I found the track, the graphics and the whole experience to be very sterile. It looked like a video game the entire time with the monochromatic asphalt. Yes RF2 does feel good sometimes, if you're in a decently developed car, but the simplistic graphics, at least in VR, just pull me out of the experience.
I then tried the new Silverstone track, and was equally disappointed. Even upgraded, it is devoid of character. I completely understand that a racing game depends mainly on physics and racing as opposed to just graphics. Hell, otherwise we'd all be playing Forza 7. However, when the graphics are, in my opinion, that bad that it detracts from the sim, then that's something I can't get over.
For comparison, right after Silverstone in RF2, I pulled up the same track in Race Room. I haven't played Race Room a lot, but you can bet I am now. The difference was like night and day. It felt like I was actually at the track and there was atmosphere. Once I sorted the FFB, it was just a much more enjoyable experience than RF2. I tried out some other cars and tracks in RR and was equally impressed. RF2 was uninstalled last night. I wanted to like it, but it just did not do it for me. If you run VR and feel the same way, give RR a try for your single player sim racing needs.
