- Nach ziemlich genau 555 Tagen und mehr als 4.200 Metern Fels erreicht die Tunnelvortriebsmaschine am 7. November 2011 gegen 12.00 Uhr mittags Cochem. Ein Rumoren im Berg und die nach und nach zerbröselnde Spritzbetonwand kündigen das Kommen des Tunnelbohrers an.

I wonder what kind of guidance/navigation systems they use? It seems amazing to me that, after 4.2km of boring, it comes out exactly where they had outlined on the wall.
Poly Hexamethyl they use a laser on a computer radar. And they move the drill left or right up or down depending on the screen always following the laser

Men Cheer in the same way - the world over. Why can't we all just get along.
Scott Allen..that is a fair and honest question...we are all the same when it comes to huge feats of accomplishments no matter what language we cheer in ..but its that same tongue and tone that universally curses the God who made that mountain of stone. Is it harder to create that mountain of stone??..or is it harder to drill a hole in it?
The question isn't what, where, when or why we cheer...it should be WHO should we ultimately be cheering. I think our creator should get top billing don't you?

Ist das ein Tradition dass der da mit dem Wasserschlauch hinspritzt oder macht der das nur um den Staub zu verhindern?

Die meisten Bürger haben sich ja auch beschwert, dass der Staub dermaßen gebunden wurde, dass die nichts mehr davon - oder zu wenig - einatmen konnten.
Die Menschen wollen, dass diese Tradition abgeschafft wird und sie mehr durch Staub belästigt werden.
Manche sind so extrem gegen diese Schutzmaßnahmen, die wollen unbedingt durch Staub in den Lungen erkranken.

this is tbm technology. I am currently constructing a tunnel in Vietnam and constructing many hydro-electric tunnels. but never built by tbm technology. I hope you can build this technology in my life.

Alter Kommentar, aber der Bauingenieur in mir muss das trotzdem richtig stellen :P
Selbstverständlich bohrt sich die Maschine durch Stahlbeton, weil damit die tiefe Baugrube gesichert wurde. Eine Tunnelbohrmaschine wird nicht einfach am einen Ende in den Berg gejagt und kommt am anderen Ende wieder raus. Die Baugruben an Eintritt und Austritt müssen aufwendig befestigt und vorbereitet werden.

@@thanatos7246 If that was solid rock it was coming through, why was there re-enforcing wire in place. It just looked fake to me!
@@gittyuprv it's not fake it is that way because theres another tunnel right next to the new bored one. I live near Cochem and I can tell you for sure it's not fake
@@gittyuprv In this case the reinforced concrete (also called 'shotcrete' or 'sprayed concrete') was used to secure and stabilize the wall of the deep excavation pit, long before the TBM reached this destination. It's standard practice not only in tunnel boring but all deep excavation projects to make sure your excavation pit doesn't collapse.
