I always say a tough days fishing is always better than a good day at work. Thats persistence for you. Never give up till the very last pool or run you decide to fish. Theres always a chance.. That fish looked 7+ lbs to me. Solid
So beautiful isn't it?! That's why I wanted to start filming stuff to be able to share these superb places with those that can't make it there. Thanks for watching 🙏🏕️
Awesome video loved it. NZ trout are hard worked for as I found out recently. Keep up the great videos, love the format where you explain what happened whether the outcome was good or not but regardless just being on the river in beautiful surroundings is what its all about.
We're on the same page. It's so nice to be out there 👌🏽 thanks for the watching and stay tuned I've got some awesome scenery and adventures coming up 🏞️🏕️🔥💯
As much as days when the fish just seem to want to be caught are good, I think I prefer tough days like that when just one fish makes it all worthwhile. They are usually the more memorable catches.
Greetings from the US! I live in Pennsylvania and do similar videos to what you created. I just subscribed! I have a theory for some of the rejections and spooked fish. First, when the water is super clear the fish are just tough to catch. Second, I think you may be getting drag on your fly. The one rejection you got you had a good amount of fly line in the slack water close to shore. As your fly floats down the river, this will create drag. I've never fished in NZ but would love to some day. Drag is the most important factor here where I fish.
Just on the tippet roll out with the wind…. Are you using a poly leader and tippet ring set up? A meter of 3x then terminal works well in to all sorts of wind
The heap was just poor timing I should have waited 😭. I also was trying to keep line speed relatively low for light touch down rather than fast speed would have punched into wind but put risk of a splash down presentation. Not easy situation! Yes clear poly leader to tapered leader then 3x down to 4x (or 5x which was a mistake!)
Good stuff. Once you go to 5x I have found you have to be extremely anal on the knots and depending on the brand, an extra twist helps. Some Canterbury back country river fish demand it esp off the top
I was willing your line not to break when you were passing your rod under the branches after your previous losses/misses. Great video in an amazing place.
Great video, amazing river. Quickly catching Alex and Mike for best nz fly fishing content.
🏞️🏞️🔥🔥Too kind
@@nzadventurer Honestly your videos are getting better and better.
@@Wildfisher13 big thanks 🙏 I'm enjoying making them!

@@nzadventurer Excellent stuff, looking forward to it.
Beautiful place
Some of New Zealand's best my friend. Far from the nearest dairy farm and a long was from civilisation 🏞️
@@nzadventurer that's the fishing spots that I like
Beautiful fish, makes up for the tough fishing, such a good feeling when you know you worked that much harder for it.
That's for sure! No more 5lb?! Think 6lb is the way to go

I hear ya! Cheers for watching 🏞️

Thanks for the tip! Cheers for the sub 👌
That was a lot of effort! Well done for persevering though, one great fish like that is a good reward.
For sure 💯
awesome top of the south I'm guessing?
Definately #southisland!

@reuben6853 cheers for the vibes of encouragement. Pretty lucky it didn't break that second time eh
@@TimmoMcGinn yeah agreed - I find the Dbl Davy knot cinches better than improved cinch knot on lighter tippet
would luv to see the flys
Will try and add that into a future vid. Check out the category 3 tricky situation and this beauty:

What sunglasses are those?
Those are a brand called dot dash that I got at T7. Black polarized lens so sweet in bright conditions but not as good as amber in lower light 🏞️
Awesome country and fishing.👌🎣 one small whinge … why do folk put music on fishing videos 😏😏
Noted... Trying to find a balance between ambience and birds, me talking and music. Hopefully you like the birds 🤞🏼
All it takes is one good fish to make a trip, week done on getting him to the net. Id say at least 7lb for that fella
Yeah looking back at the pics I think you're right. Thanks for watching mate 🙏🏞️
Just be careful of the Grizzlies!
🐻🐍🔥
Good video but a little less of you and more fishing would have been nice!
Noted 👌thanks for watching
