Well, all I can say is that I sure can now understand why people are in love with Dimash!! Just from this video alone, I've added him into what I call my (exceedingly short) '"WHOA!!! List' of Singers" who actually have the power to move me to the point of tears (both joyful or sad)...when it's not merely a performance but the ability to TRANSCEND the time and space continuum, where the singer's intention in the telling of the story makes you physically FEEL each emotion they are trying to convey. And I love that you spoke of Dimash's courage to stick with his convictions of what he wants to express in a song, even if others advise against it. That, in and of itself, when coming from someone in the music industry, is courageous as well. (Yet once again, how many other vocal coaches has anyone ever come across who has been brave enough to even broach this subject?) Speaking of facial and body expressions, I cannot begin to say just HOW much his perfect 'Goldilocks Zone' of expressions (not too wooden but also not too over the top) extends the story he is trying to tell. It's one thing to have the technical down pat, but just standing there, almost robotic and expressionless, planted like a tree in front of a microphone, leaves me cold. Give me something from within you--SHOW me how YOU are feeling about this or that particular lyric--will go a long way in reaching into my heart. Dimash and David Phelps share this quality (among others), and we are all the better for it. I know nothing about music, but may be that you will change your mind about calling him the "male Mariah Carey" if you hear the song "Ogni Pietra" performed by him. Someone wrote that in that song he went from baritone to soprano range in a sort of "full operatic mode", even if the music sounds rock (a sort of "rock opera"). I don't know if the ranges are those (baritone to soprano) cause I really don't know music, but I'm not sure that Mariah Carey can sing in the same range of Dimash when he sings in his "baritone" register.
They are certainly different! But I make the comparison based on the fact that they both use such incredible high head voice/ whistle register and applying it to a commercial sound. Not easy to do!

FYI, from what I've read about Dimash, both his parents are in music. They recognized at age 5 that he had perfect pitch and started him in singing instruction. He can play several different instruments plus he was encouraged to swim competitively to help train him with breathing correctly.

One of my favorite moments of this performance is at 13:02 when he just slightly grins, like he knew he had nailed the performance. Knowing how nervous he was beforehand, that was sweet. Almost as sweet as the very last note, which was perfectly sublime.

They are "Autumn Strong" "Daididau" and "Daybreak." You MUST see these very important true back-stories before you watch his performances. You should know that Gloria edits the videos with other visuals, and sometimes pitches and slows down the performances (especially in Autumn strong), most likely for copyright reasons.

Yes, the audience votes. The contestants were all invited to compete, so there were no auditions or rude comments from judges. He was the Wild Card, so they put him first, not expecting much. Bwahahaha. Oh, I think it would be far more intimidating to come after him. He didn't show as much of his low end on The Singer. But in the four years since then, his low end has gotten stronger and richer. Yes, he does whistle tones, too.

Nothing like AGT or any similar show in the West, this was a chinese show for highly respected, and famous professional singers to compete, Dimash from Kazakhstan was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan in Central Asia, so half in Europe and half in Asia, he is 6ft 3 inches (191 cm) tall and was the youngest ever competitor here in 2017 at only 22 years old and the people you see backstage are his competitors. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China with around 600 million hits on Weibo. He sang this song as it had served him well in competitions in the past. He won he Grand Prix in both Making Asia in 2012 and Slavic Bazaar in 2015 and in many other contests. In Central Asia singing contests are very prestigious and they are steps to take in your singing career. He has been at this level for a long time but if you listen to him now his voice, tone, range, have all matured and improved so don't do the whole Singer please, just the recommendations from Dears as you will want to see him grow into the superstar he is today 💖

Believe it or not but the biggest wow effect comes actually after this Chinese show. His voice grew up so much more last few years, that we really start wondering if he has any limits. You're getting into Dimash now? Wow! Three & a half years down the track. Anyway this was the first song in the whole show not just Dimash's first. He was 23 in this show & absolutely unknown outside of Kazakhstan. His depth has improved over the years.
I am 63 years old and I love music and I have NEVER heard anything like this… so beautiful, and think never I will again. I will not enjoy music the same way after Dimash…. And cannot understand HOW I never heard of him until 2023. 🤨
I listen to Dimash (since I found him on YT in early 2018 on accident) not only because of his range or belting abilities, I love him for his artistry, his humility and ability to give me chills. He´s such a "wonder" and surprises me every time I hear new songs of him. In my opinion, he´s the completest artist in the music world. He not only arranges songs of others in a new, often better way, he composes also his own songs and has a good and earthed worldview too. I love him because of all of that.
Seeing this the first time in 2017 I couldn't believe my ears rewinding maybe a dozen times and spending another at least 2 hours to search for other videos - not many at that time as the show was still not finished it think. To say I was hooked is the understatement of the century and it still holding on with every new song staring anew. To be able to watch a talent like this is a treasure. Even more so because of his kind and gentle personality.
Reactors rarely mention that crescendo that you did. It's quite stunning. Notice when he goes to the top note that even the backup singer is watching him. He has a higher range than Mariah.
And mariah definitely has more control of her range, he can hit highs notes but mariah can literally speak in lows and whistles register , so isn't a comparison
My understanding is the other competitors were known, established acts in China and he was an unknown foreigner so they put him first figuring they would get him out of the way and save the best for last. Well, little did they know how he would throw down the gauntlet.

And you're not the only one shocked, we still get shocked with every single new performance (and we've seen a LOT of them). Just finished watching his current exclusive online show... I'm still really shocked by that one, new songs in styles we never heard from him before, and his voice just keeps improving. Like WHAT??? I'm not ready to watch another performance LOL. This is the first time (and believe me I've watched many) I've seen a reactor watching not only his performance but how he got ready and a little back story behind the scenes and I applaud you for that. It really makes you understand the situation he was in when he entered that competition and that he was truly the black horse who blew the roof off!! And he's not even singing with his own language!! I only recently discovered Dimash after ignoring him in my TH-cam recommendations for over a year. I figured he was just the latest pop "sensation" and I generally do not listen to that genre of music. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have since watched hours upon hours of reactions to his various performances. I mostly watch reactions from professional vocal coaches, many with backgrounds in Opera. I just came across your channel and will watch every one of your Dimash reactions. You just provided another excellent reaction and analysis. I really enjoy your videos, and like you, I am absolutely amazed by his incredible talent, ability, vocal range and dynamics, his delivery, as well as his stage presence. He has diligently honed his craft and developed his God-given gift for more than 20 years now and it shows. I read somewhere that Dimash used to swim 3 hours every day to develop the capacity of his lungs. It's not just a raw talent but tremendous work to achieve this level of performance. From what I gathered, he started singing lessons at 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has recently completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with Honours, having achieved a perfect score of 100%. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. as he wants to teach music after his singing career. His range is about 7 octaves now but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a much-loved national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 12 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. He also plays six instruments; the dombra, piano, drums, guitar, xylophone, and cello.

Dimash "I did it, my way" Kudaibergen! He was offered a job at the most prestigious Kazakh opera house, but he turned it down as he knew he didn't want to be limited to Opera. He was criticized by judges at a Kazakh singing competition when he was much younger about using his head voice as a man, and he disregarded the criticism. So, he's got a very strong sense of self and what he wants to do as an artist, but apart from that confidence, he is so humble that I call him the Anti-Diva. In this regard, from a personality stand point, he is the complete opposite of Mariah Carey. His range is wider than Mariah as he can go way deeper than her, yet his highest note is a D8 (outside the piano range - sounds like microphone feedback!!!). In none of these songs does he showcase his lower register. For that, I highly suggest Sinful Passion (huuuge breath control at the end), or if you want to hear it in an operatic masterpiece, Olimpico (a.k.a. incredible performances from I’m Singer when he was 21 are soooo much more extraordinary now when he is 26. Yesterday’s Dimash online concert on Tixr was absolutely epic, awesome, record breaking. Dimash went 200% above what he showed before.. after one day we are still in shock. Tickets are still available 20$, it is a masterpiece and art that you should check if you enjoy Dimash performances.
Thank you for your reaction and analysis!! By all means, you can do the Singer series, but you should at least know that some of these songs have way better versions on other performances than in the Singer. The Diva Dance (which is one semitone lower on the Singer than on Bastau) and Daybreak are *definitely* better on the Bastau concert (which was a few months after the Singer). Also, Unforgettable Day has the record D8 whistle on the Gakku performance. The Singer's "Autumn Strong" version is for me the best, but although Gloria Wu's video nicely explains the story behind the song, the video is just a bit slowed down (and as a result one key lower) than the actual performance, as shown on other videos. I'm not sure how many Dimash songs you are willing to do, but there are really two more songs that you *must* include in your list that were not on the SInger: Sinful Passion (the Sochi performance is the best) and Ogni Pietra (aka Olimpico) from the Arnau concert in 2019. If you thin the F#5 is a high belt (which it is ofc), then wait for Sinful Passion :)
When you react to Unforgetable Day please do the Gakku version. He hits a D8 in this. He wrote this song when he was still a teenager and is one of my favorites and a go-to for his concerts. Did you know that the day after they aired this on tv he had to have a bodyguard he was so well known and popular and loved!!

Well, all I can say is that I sure can now understand why people are in love with Dimash!! Just from this video alone, I've added him into what I call my (exceedingly short) '"WHOA!!! List' of Singers" who actually have the power to move me to the point of tears (both joyful or sad)...when it's not merely a performance but the ability to TRANSCEND the time and space continuum, where the singer's intention in the telling of the story makes you physically FEEL each emotion they are trying to convey. And I love that you spoke of Dimash's courage to stick with his convictions of what he wants to express in a song, even if others advise against it. That, in and of itself, when coming from someone in the music industry, is courageous as well. (Yet once again, how many other vocal coaches has anyone ever come across who has been brave enough to even broach this subject?) Speaking of facial and body expressions, I cannot begin to say just HOW much his perfect 'Goldilocks Zone' of expressions (not too wooden but also not too over the top) extends the story he is trying to tell. It's one thing to have the technical down pat, but just standing there, almost robotic and expressionless, planted like a tree in front of a microphone, leaves me cold. Give me something from within you--SHOW me how YOU are feeling about this or that particular lyric--will go a long way in reaching into my heart. Dimash and David Phelps share this quality (among others), and we are all the better for it. I can tell that you, Jacob, feel the same when you picked up on and talked about Dimash's subtleties near the beginning as well. Thanks for another totally AWESOME review!!!

the og singer is daniel balavoine, who died in helicopter crash in 1986. i was in Paris at the time france mourned his passing, his song played on the radio for weeks and i fell in love with it then, dimash has made me cry more times than i care to admit, this has been a famous suicide song since the 80's.

I know nothing about music, but may be that you will change your mind about calling him the "male Mariah Carey" if you hear the song "Ogni Pietra" performed by him. Someone wrote that in that song he went from baritone to soprano range in a sort of "full operatic mode", even if the music sounds rock (a sort of "rock opera"). I don't know if the ranges are those (baritone to soprano) cause I really don't know music, but I'm not sure that Mariah Carey can sing in the same range of Dimash when he sings in his "baritone" register.
They are certainly different! But I make the comparison based on the fact that they both use such incredible high head voice/ whistle register and applying it to a commercial sound. Not easy to do!

FYI, from what I've read about Dimash, both his parents are in music. They recognized at age 5 that he had perfect pitch and started him in singing instruction. He can play several different instruments plus he was encouraged to swim competitively to help train him with breathing correctly.

I never agree with these people. I don't know why all dears I saw in comments think that the fact he hits D8 note is the best. But how one note can make performance perfect? Also I think D8 was there unnecessary. I hope that you watch a Singer version first. Of course it is just my opinion but i think that Singer version is wonderful: arrangement, lights, vocal etc. everything was harmonious.
Although I am not a dear, but I respect what Dimash do. His voice is gorgeous. He can sing everything. But for me singing such high note (D8) is not necessary for making a performance great. Atmosphere and feelings is much important. That is why I love Singer version so much. And there also one thing I like, but I don't write it here. Maybe later, if you react to this song.

"Across Endless Dimensions" has just been added to MTV's rotation and every Dimash fan can help push him over the top by doing two simple things: First, tune into the weekly Friday livestream on MTV's youtube channel (5-8 pm New York time) and type REQUEST DIMASH in the chat as many times as possible during the broadcast, and second, join nextdoor.com and post an enthusiastic comment titled something like "Introduction to the best singer of our time" with youtube links to several of his songs. One of my favorite moments of this performance is at 13:02 when he just slightly grins, like he knew he had nailed the performance. Knowing how nervous he was beforehand, that was sweet. Almost as sweet as the very last note, which was perfectly sublime.

They are "Autumn Strong" "Daididau" and "Daybreak." You MUST see these very important true back-stories before you watch his performances. @@JacobBurtonStudios I would recommend only to watch Gloria Wu for the back story of the songs if you are interested in them, but not for the performance. You should know that Gloria edits the videos with other visuals, and sometimes pitches and slows down the performances (especially in Autumn strong), most likely for copyright reasons.

Yes, the audience votes. The contestants were all invited to compete, so there were no auditions or rude comments from judges. He was the Wild Card, so they put him first, not expecting much. Bwahahaha. Oh, I think it would be far more intimidating to come after him. He didn't show as much of his low end on The Singer. But in the four years since then, his low end has gotten stronger and richer. Yes, he does whistle tones, too.

Just watched Dimash’s digital show that ended an hour ago. It was excellent! He premiered 2 songs: a pop song; his original composition in English where he raps in Kazakh and another Kazakh number composed by his father Kanat.

Nothing like AGT or any similar show in the West, this was a chinese show for highly respected, and famous professional singers to compete, Dimash from Kazakhstan was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan in Central Asia, so half in Europe and half in Asia, he is 6ft 3 inches (191 cm) tall and was the youngest ever competitor here in 2017 at only 22 years old and the people you see backstage are his competitors. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China with around 600 million hits on Weibo. His first album in 2019 went platinum in 37 seconds and triple platinum in under an hour, sales are now way past this. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, including the Barclays Centre in New York last December (tour is on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, has completed a Broadway Musical Masterclass and has now graduated his Masters Degree with Honours in music composition with a top mark of 100%, he is now doing his PhD. He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respecfully turned it down to persue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 8 instruments and also sings in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano in full head voice, , plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. He is kind, humble, generous and modest, a very elegant, well bought up young man. His Dears are his very loyal fans and we number over 114 fan clubs in 120 countries globally and number in the millions, he calls us Dears because we are so dear to him, just like his family. Some informatios about Dimash. Dimash is from Kazakhstan, he is 26 now, 6,3" . His vocal range extends from the lower notes of the baritone register to the highest notes of the soprano! It also reaches the whistle register, the highest note is D8. This contest in China, is not like Voice etc. Only famous, established singers are allowed to participate by invitation. It stands at a high artistic and musical level and lasts 4 months. He opened the whole set because he was unknown, other competitors heard him for the first time (you saw their reactions, they were shocked). After this performance, it became a nighttime sensation in China, in one day the song had 600 million views. He was no longer allowed to move without bodyguards. It was in 2017. Now Dimash is huge in China, loved and respected. Also in Russia, The world got to know him through this competition. He was recognized by specialists around the world as the best singer on the world. He sings in 12 languages and plays many instruments. He sang this song as it had served him well in competitions in the past. He won he Grand Prix in both Making Asia in 2012 and Slavic Bazaar in 2015 and in many other contests. In Central Asia singing contests are very prestigious and they are steps to take in your singing career. He has been at this level for a long time but if you listen to him now his voice, tone, range, have all matured and improved so don't do the whole Singer please, just the recommendations from Dears as you will want to see him grow into the superstar he is today 💖

Believe it or not but the biggest wow effect comes actually after this Chinese show. His voice grew up so much more last few years, that we really start wondering if he has any limits. At the moment there is no one else on this planet that is able to sing his sons. Dimash can cover anyone, but no one can cover his songs. I listen to Dimash (since I found him on YT in early 2018 on accident) not only because of his range or belting abilities, I love him for his artistry, his humility and ability to give me chills. He´s such a "wonder" and surprises me every time I hear new songs of him. In my opinion, he´s the completest artist in the music world. He not only arranges songs of others in a new, often better way, he composes also his own songs and has a good and earthed worldview too. I love him because of all of that.

Seeing this the first time in 2017 I couldn't believe my ears rewinding maybe a dozen times and spending another at least 2 hours to search for other videos - not many at that time as the show was still not finished it think. To say I was hooked is the understatement of the century and it still holding on with every new song staring anew. To be able to watch a talent like this is a treasure. Even more so because of his kind and gentle personality.

I only recently discovered Dimash after ignoring him in my TH-cam recommendations for over a year. I figured he was just the latest pop "sensation" and I generally do not listen to that genre of music. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I have since watched hours upon hours of reactions to his various performances. I mostly watch reactions from professional vocal coaches, many with backgrounds in Opera. I just came across your channel and will watch every one of your Dimash reactions. You just provided another excellent reaction and analysis. I really enjoy your videos, and like you, I am absolutely amazed by his incredible talent, ability, vocal range and dynamics, his delivery, as well as his stage presence. He has diligently honed his craft and developed his God-given gift for more than 20 years now and it shows. I read somewhere that Dimash used to swim 3 hours every day to develop the capacity of his lungs. It's not just a raw talent but tremendous work to achieve this level of performance.
From what I gathered, he started singing lessons at 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has recently completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with Honours, having achieved a perfect score of 100%. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. as he wants to teach music after his singing career.
His range is about 7 octaves now but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a much-loved national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 12 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. He also plays six instruments; the dombra, piano, drums, guitar, xylophone, and cello.

Dimash "I did it, my way" Kudaibergen! He was offered a job at the most prestigious Kazakh opera house, but he turned it down as he knew he didn't want to be limited to Opera. He was criticized by judges at a Kazakh singing competition when he was much younger about using his head voice as a man, and he disregarded the criticism. So, he's got a very strong sense of self and what he wants to do as an artist, but apart from that confidence, he is so humble that I call him the Anti-Diva. In this regard, from a personality stand point, he is the complete opposite of Mariah Carey. His range is wider than Mariah as he can go way deeper than her, yet his highest note is a D8 (outside the piano range - sounds like microphone feedback!!!). In none of these songs does he showcase his lower register. incredible performances from I’m Singer when he was 21 are soooo much more extraordinary now when he is 26. Yesterday’s Dimash online concert on Tixr was absolutely epic, awesome, record breaking. Dimash went 200% above what he showed before.. after one day we are still in shock.
Tickets are still available 20$, it is a masterpiece and art that you should check if you enjoy Dimash performances.

By all means, you can do the Singer series, but you should at least know that some of these songs have way better versions on other performances than in the Singer. The Diva Dance (which is one semitone lower on the Singer than on Bastau) and Daybreak are *definitely* better on the Bastau concert (which was a few months after the Singer). Also, Unforgettable Day has the record D8 whistle on the Gakku performance. The Singer's "Autumn Strong" version is for me the best, but although Gloria Wu's video nicely explains the story behind the song, the video is just a bit slowed down (and as a result one key lower) than the actual performance, as shown on other videos.
I'm not sure how many Dimash songs you are willing to do, but there are really two more songs that you *must* include in your list that were not on the SInger: Sinful Passion (the Sochi performance is the best) and Ogni Pietra (aka Olimpico) from the Arnau concert in 2019.
If you thin the F#5 is a high belt (which it is ofc), then wait for Sinful Passion :)

When you react to Unforgetable Day please do the Gakku version. He hits a D8 in this. He wrote this song when he was still a teenager and is one of my favorites and a go-to for his concerts. Did you know that the day after they aired this on tv he had to have a bodyguard he was so well known and popular and loved!!
