    Man, how this is a 1986 game?
    The levels don't repeat, it has a great music, great gameplay, great graphics, great characters design and actually a big campaign for that time.
    It's a game above it time, I never played it, but now I want it

      Taito were ahead of the game in 86 (like Sega with Outrun, a game with some of the best graphics of it's time). This game, and Legend of Kage were the beginnings of ZUNTATA, Taito's inhouse band/sound developers (they also played to packed houses when they did live concerts, massive crowds went to see them live).

      Plenty of games fit this from 1986. In the arcade you have Gradius and Salamander already out, which certainly aren't super short games even putting aside their difficulty. Space Harrier also came out the previous year. Ghosts n Goblins too. Gauntlet wasn't super pretty but plenty long with lots of levels.
      On home systems 1986 is when Legend of Zelda came out. You also had Super Mario Bros, SMB2 in Japan, the first Goemon game, Metroid...
      Some of these games wouldn't reach the whole world for another year or two, to be fair.

    The simple demonstration that a simple game concept becomes a great success. I now see the final boss after decades. But the most incredible thing is that I discover the game also gave an important message: "friendship and love". TAITO's best masterpiece even though now seen in 2019 !!

    • @rockodelawere5835
      @rockodelawere5835 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. A great game then and now. I don't understand why Taito made new games that had nothing to do with this original piece. I mean those Puzzle Bobble/Bust a move ones, which were nothing but an upside down Tetris. It would have been better if they increased this type in quality.

    • @magnolerriccardo6840
      @magnolerriccardo6840 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Alchemy - C64-AMIGA since 1987 Thank you. I totally agree with you. In the past, a successful arcade had to find innovation and had to mix it with the essence of fun. But not only. A video game had to be developed for fast dynamics use. The times of use of modern consoles are enormous compared to those of coin-ops, so being able to insert a message for the gamer was a great added value.

    Gareth Hall's FAQ says to look for hidden messages in the secret levels, using the first block of strange characters as the letters A to Z to translate the second block into a message. So I had a look and translated the messages. In order, the three messages translate as follows (in the original Japanese English ;-)):
    "If you want to become the old figure,use the power of your friendship,and fight with me"
    "I enclose these magical medicine here,because those are my worst fears...."
    "If you want to get back your love of truth,you must help each other untill the last......."

    No, that was only in the NES version, NES arcade ports often had extra stuff thrown in them. My take on this game, one of my favorite arcade titles of all time.

    Thank-you for the amazing, fond memories....I didn't see the arcade "power-up" secret pre-game code being entered, or the "secret diamond stage" sequence being entered.....and you probably don't know about magic #110, 220, 330, 440, etc to get more points.......ahhhhhh the memories....used to finish the game and save the princess on $0.25 cents at my local laundry mat :D

    Such a fun game. So many 20c pieces put into the machine at my local arcade in the late 80s. Around a 2 year period my coins went into Bubble Bobble, Double Dragon, Twin Cobra, Bad Dudes vs Dragon Ninja, Operation Thunderbolt and a few older machines (Slap Fight, 1942, Xevious etc)

    Used to spend summers at my grandma's place in a small farm town. The local cafe had two video games in a small side room - Bubble Bobble and Excitebike. Don't even wanna know how many quarters I begged my grandma for. I'll always remember the smell and kitchen sounds of a country cafe and the hum of an old fluorescent light when I play this game.
    The purple/white blob enemies did always freak me out tbh.
