Chennai airport should bring back the Viewers gallery ! I still remember in late 90s and early 2000s I go there(during send off parties) by taking an entry ticket for visitors and they allow upto a tower where you could see the flights take off and land. I watch the Indian Airlines ( now Air India ) in operation at the gate and how mesmerising those views were. I guess even till 2010 they were allowing people who come to send off their kith and kin , after which, I don’t know whether it was an order passed by DGCA or AAI , the entry to visitors were closed I guess it was after 2008 that Mumbai attack (not sure if that was the reason) they brought in strict rules for every airport in India. Actually why am telling this is, People who come to drop off / send off their sons/daughters/friends/relatives are really struggling to get seated around or the lack of proper ventilation at the terminals, being in a coastal area with high humidity is definitely stressful for public and senior citizens. And with the opening of new terminal though it was fantastic inside the struggle is still there outside where people couldn’t even get some water to quench their thirst and no proper ventilation at this new terminal. And with more modern technologies it should be easy to install heat exchangers at particular places so that people who come for send off and drop off will breathe some fresh air. At least (keeping in mind)for the senior citizens. Not enough chairs outside this new terminal. I request the airport authorities to at-least let woman and senior citizens inside the terminal or open the viewing gallery area we had earlier with an entry ticket such that they can interact with their loved ones until they pass through the security check gate
Hello Siddharth😃 Thank you for the comment. We had a viewing gallery at the terminal-3 if I recall, which was known as the old Anna International terminal. We could buy tickets and visit the gallery up there. I remember visiting it in 2019. We also used to have a few eateries up there. Though these days having viewing galleries is becoming uncommon. The matter of people coming in to drop or send off are not able to enter the terminal is because of the security rules in place in India. In places such as KL or SIN or BKK you can enter the terminal up to where the passengers go for immigration. But yes, there could be seats and even a water dispenser. But we also need to consider the downside which is the huge scale of crowd that we deal with.
@@aerowanderer totally agree with your point 🙌🏽 ‘crowd factor’ is one thing we need to consider here and I guess the new AeroHub could cater large masses but I don’t think how many would utilise the services offered by the multiplex. And like you said , I had seen in AUH and DXB airport where anyone could simply enter the terminal gates and after which only ticket holders will be allowed to cross a point beyond the automatic checkpoint for baggage drop and immigration but Chennai we can’t expect that to happen any sooner and the work of CISF security at entrance gates will be at stake. Keep up the work mate ! Hardly we find such quality content about our Airport ✈️ your videos can sure bring some attention towards progress !
@@aerowanderer Yes, you're right...the security angle has to be considered..But this can be done by letting the visitors after scrutiny like Aadhar Card verification etc..I remember my friend was allowed inside the Bangkok Airport Departure lounge to send me off, even Upto the last Immigration-Boarding Pass check ..!

@@aerowanderer Airport is spacious enough .The connecivity beween the Termanils is really far beter than terminals in other Metros.Whts is sucking is the Roof Design and its colors ,the unprofessional kolam pattern and is colors in the chekc in area. The sklight is looking weird.The other area are ok.I feel the roof and floor deisgn in T1 & T4 check in areas are far professional than this.They roof and skylight just looks like a colored shed or godown .The nasty roof & floor design is constructed in the name Tmail culture by the airport authorities.
Very fantastic effort and coverage - whats missing is - the rest room availability and cleanliness, and the private taxi connecting, auto exit connecting which is normal in the other airports thats pretty easy.

I had used the one on the mezzanine level, it was spacious and well maintained at the time. Hopefully it does stay the same way. 2.Autos aren’t allowed inside the airport premises. It has always been the same. Both pick up and drop off are near the entry of the airport before the parking/tool booth. Hope it’s clear now😃

What is the reason behind your negative opinion on the construction quality? The construction was done by L&T, which is a well-known company, so the quality should be great.
@@usee_6423 if you have visited a few international airports, you would know the difference. Lots of unfinished glass fixtures, construction equipment and other items left without any safety warnings or barricades around.
Definitely the standards seem better but some character is missing. Particularly around how everything is integrated around a theme: Mumbai and Delhi airports are amazing for that. They are able to easily convey the theme
@vipinswammy-dn4jy you are so right. This is what I meant by how everything should be integrated around a theme. This is vital for modern design and airports. Just standalone artwork or decorative elements will not work out. Imagine how amazing it would have been if they had made the airport have elements that look like Mahabalipuram caves etc while coming back from aero bridge- on that note, Mumbai airport has a section that appears like medieval Indian forts and cave temples, while walking to the domestic gates.

We need to see how the new airport pans out. But Chennai is really substance over style. I rarely need to spend more than 20 mins to finish checkin, immigration and security check even at the busiest times. I believe one who went to Delhi airport anytime would say about the horrible waiting time.

From almost anywhere in Chennai, it doesn't take more than 40 mins even at peak hours. Even better from metro connected areas. Queues are objectively better. My worst has always been Delhi. I dread anytime I need to go to Delhi. And time to reach Bangalore airport is simply insane. It takes as much time for me to go from HSR to airport as actual flight time to Dubai😅. I travel quite a lot both domestically and internationally. Keeping this into account I almost always prefer Chennai whenever I can.

Chennai airport has a long way to go before they can catch up with other major airports in the country. Chennai airport is nowhere near the airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore. It has no direct connections to anywhere in the US, Australia or South Africa. Connections to Hongkong, Mauritius and Japan have been withdrawn. For the last 20 years they were talking about a new airport in Sriperumbudur. Today they are talking about Parandur. This will go on for another decade or so.

I don't think Bangalore, Hyderabad have direct connectivity to Hong Kong or New York or Sydney. Only Delhi has most of the direct flights to far away places. Other than that Munbai and Chennai have the highest direct flight connectivities to international destinations. Closely followed by Bangalore and Hyderabad is still bit far in that regards. In Infra wise, new airports of Bangalore and Hyderabad are miles better than Delhi Mumbai Chennai and Kolkata.

Thank you😃 I agree, though one of the primary reasons is lack of any more room for expansion. We are saturated in terms of space we can use. Plus the current airport is easily accessible from anywhere in the city and also I very well connected in terms of transportation
Unfortunately some areas are totally passanger unfriendly. One has to carry ones hand luggage, buy 3 idlies and coffee for Rupees 480.00 andctry to carry ot 100 feet to nearest sitting are where only sofas are provided. Otherwise risk leaving your bag unattended while you stand at the stall andceat tge food. This vould be sol ed by providing hand luggage trolleys or table and chairs neat the only 4 food stalls. I was also happily told during my 2 departures in last 1 month that the advertised free wifi is not working.

What about runway developments, with new integrated terminal at Chennai International airport..will it be able to handle airbus 380. Currently only Delhi, Mumbai, bangalore, hyderabad, and cochin have infrastructure to handle airbus 380 in india
We still don’t have enough ground facilities to handle an A380. We do have enough runway length for an A380 to operate but lack adequate taxiways, apron, aerobridge etc.

Nice video ! I ll have an 8h transit in this airport next month. I am wondering wether I need to clear immigration after disembarking my inbound flight or i can walk straight to the boarding area after disembarking. From what i see in your video, after disembarking you walk in the corridor at 09:35 and it seems the only option is to take the escalator to arrival leveL.
Beautiful coverage, Walkway from Arrival to immigration and Baggage counter seems narrow, hopefully we can get more space one phase 2 upgradation gets completed.

Hello maam😃 Talking from my personal experience, I feel Chennai boats some excellent immigration officers in terms of efficiency and service. I’ve never had any unpleasant exchanges with them. Fast forward 27 years now, probably the same immigration officers might have a relative or two in the US now😅
Hello😃 Outbound from Chennai Immigration - Around 5 mins Security - 15 mins Check in - Also around 15 mins Inbound to Chennai Immigration - Around 10mins Baggage claim - A lots of bags were taken from the belt and arranged on the floor. Ours was in the lot, so we didn’t have to wait to collect our bags Overall from disembarking the aircraft to exit at exact 31mins.
The important thing to maintain it and keep clean. Especially restrooms . Another thing , this is Chennai Airport, so instructions on sign board must be in 2 main languages. Tamil and English only!
My flight landing time is 11 pm and my domestic flight at 7 am. I need yo come out and checkin again bcz two diffrent PNR numbers. As i knew in HYD we can stil in food court. But in chennai airport is there any plcce to sit for 3 or 4 hours?
Recently flew out. It was chaotic Outside getting a cart to unload from car. The luggage cart has to be stored ijn several in several places near various entrances. Currently it’s not the case. Inside looks good the lounge I went near gate 8 seems make shift hope there is a better lounge to be opened. All other seems good including the toilet as of now. Time will tell if our makkal can keep it clean. Good luck chennai.

Even though there were people present for assistance, none of them bothered to assist. 2.With respect to transport, have always found it difficult upon arrival. It has been disorganised for quite a number of months if not years 3.The lounge is a makeshift one. When I had enquired they had said there was a lounge which was under construction which I think is on the next level. 4. Same observation. The one in the new terminal seems spacious and clean. Goes hand in hand. Passengers as well as the airport management need to work in tandem to maintain it atleast to the level it is😃

I rarely need to spend more than 20 mins to finish checkin, immigration and security check even at the busiest times. I believe one who went to Delhi airport anytime would say about the horrible waiting time.

Mopa Goa and Kempegowda Bengaluru are easily the best airport terminals in India right now! Chennai airport has pathetic passenger service like Mumbai and Delhi! Again, why was the international terminal so garishly designed? Then again, It’s AAI, not GMR or BIAL to come up with better designs!
@@sujathaviswanathan7210true. Not a big fan of the architecture though. Despite that, I always had the least trouble with chennai one. From almost anywhere in Chennai, it doesn't take more than 40 mins even at peak hours. Even better from metro connected areas. Queues are objectively better. My worst has always been Delhi. I dread anytime I need to go to Delhi. And time to reach Bangalore airport is simply insane. It takes as much time for me to go from HSR to airport as actual flight time to Dubai😅. I travel quite a lot both domestically and internationally. Keeping this into account I almost always prefer Chennai whenever I can.

Chennai airport has a long way to go before they can catch up with other major airports in the country. Chennai airport is nowhere near the airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore. It has no direct connections to anywhere in the US, Australia or South Africa. Connections to Hongkong, Mauritius and Japan have been withdrawn. For the last 20 years they were talking about a new airport in Sriperumbudur. Today they are talking about Parandur. This will go on for another decade or so.

I don't think Bangalore, Hyderabad have direct connectivity to Hong Kong or New York or Sydney. Only Delhi has most of the direct flights to far away places. Other than that Munbai and Chennai have the highest direct flight connectivities to international destinations. Closely followed by Bangalore and Hyderabad is still bit far in that regards. In Infra wise, new airports of Bangalore and Hyderabad are miles better than Delhi Mumbai Chennai and Kolkata.

Lots of work to be done to improve passengers facilities. Actually missing direction sign we are lost didn't know where to go due to lack of signage.

Unfortunately some areas are totally passanger unfriendly. One has to carry ones hand luggage, buy 3 idlies and coffee for Rupees 480.00 andctry to carry ot 100 feet to nearest sitting are where only sofas are provided. Otherwise risk leaving your bag unattended while you stand at the stall andceat tge food. This vould be sol ed by providing hand luggage trolleys or table and chairs neat the only 4 food stalls.
I was also happily told during my 2 departures in last 1 month that the advertised free wifi is not working.

What about runway developments, with new integrated terminal at Chennai International airport..will it be able to handle airbus 380. Currently only Delhi, Mumbai, bangalore, hyderabad, and cochin have infrastructure to handle airbus 380 in india
We still don’t have enough ground facilities to handle an A380. We do have enough runway length for an A380 to operate but lack adequate taxiways, apron, aerobridge etc.

I am wondering wether I need to clear immigration after disembarking my inbound flight or i can walk straight to the boarding area after disembarking. From what i see in your video, after disembarking you walk in the corridor at 09:35 and it seems the only option is to take the escalator to arrival leveL.

Looks nice, the brand new terminal. Never been at Chennai airport, as I avoid traveling via Chennai from Paris or London. I heard about not so friendly staff at the airport. Hope it has all imrpoved

Looking beautiful now since the time I was traveling from 1986 ,As international traveler ,still lot more changes in the rest room area with all modern technology would be better ,Still immigration system need to updated with computer technology ,self scanning ,fast moving for passengers Already tired with long hr more than 21 hrs .Also respecting travelers with pleasing manner would be good .Comparing with other international Airport this Air port is ok still need. Hello maam😃 Talking from my personal experience, I feel Chennai boats some excellent immigration officers in terms of efficiency and service. I’ve never had any unpleasant exchanges with them.
Fast forward 27 years now, probably the same immigration officers might have a relative or two in the US now😅

Immigration - Around 10mins
Baggage claim - A lots of bags were taken from the belt and arranged on the floor. Ours was in the lot, so we didn’t have to wait to collect our bags
Overall from disembarking the aircraft to exit at exact 31mins.

My flight landing time is 11 pm and my domestic flight at 7 am. I need yo come out and checkin again bcz two diffrent PNR numbers. As i knew in HYD we can stil in food court. But in chennai airport is there any plcce to sit for 3 or 4 hours?
Recently flew out. It was chaotic Outside getting a cart to unload from car. The luggage cart has to be stored ijn several in several places near various entrances. Currently it’s not the case.
Inside looks good the lounge I went near gate 8 seems make shift hope there is a better lounge to be opened.
All other seems good including the toilet as of now. Time will tell if our makkal can keep it clean.

1.Correct. Even we found it difficult to find a trolley. Even though there were people present for assistance, none of them bothered to assist.
2.With respect to transport, have always found it difficult upon arrival. It has been disorganised for quite a number of months if not years
3.The lounge is a makeshift one. When I had enquired they had said there was a lounge which was under construction which I think is on the next level.
4. Same observation. The one in the new terminal seems spacious and clean.
Goes hand in hand. Passengers as well as the airport management need to work in tandem to maintain it atleast to the level it is😃

Yes. This new terminal also known as T-2 is currently used for all international departures and arrivals
