*How are you watering your chickens and other backyard poultry?* We were surprised at how easy it was to use these Rent-a-Coop Watering nipples: amzn.to/3t6Uu0e
Thank you for this video. We currently have the water cups attached to a 5 gallon bucket. Usually it’s is enough for our seven hens, but on a hot day, they run out of water. I will give this a try.
Haaa, hey mine eat chicken scrap to! The barrel is the way to go if you have a large flock. My run is not high enough for a barrel and my flock is growing small due to hawks and fox so the 5 gallon bucket is good for me. Good video!
Thank you for this! I am picking up a drum and the rent a coop kit tomorrow. This is going to allow some autonomy for both the chickens and I in the near future.
Suggestion, run a water source in there hook to a bathroom, toilet float that way when the water level goes down the float will at turn on the water and constantly refill itself
That's a great idea for someone who's got consistent "always on" water source. In our case, we moved out coop and it is refilled every time our orchard gets watered.
Thanks for The video🙂 hey you know that Worley egg holder thingy ..I have one I bought from a thrift store and that's exactly why I bought it was to put eggs in it🐔
Growing up we just had a 5 gallon bucket cut in half with an aquarium (fish tank) heater in it to try to keep it from always freezing (zone 7). I remember catching some "pet" tadpoles and keeping them in the bucket, but then the pet chickens ate them all.
We feed our chickens a lay-pellet from our local feed store! We also feed our kitchen scraps, weeds, and bug eaten garden veggies. We keep their lay pellets topped off, and find that our now 18 chickens go through about 30-35lb of feed a week.
I was wondering with that much water in a bin how do you keep it fresh do you add vinegar to it or a little bit of bleach how do you keep it from getting stagnant and bacteria
I have been playing with the idea of doing this myself as well. Live in eastern Colorado where the winters are anything but mild. What do you use to heat yours during the cold months?
We don't hit consistent freezing temps here in SoCal! I know others in freezing climates use a heating coil to keep the water above freezing. Not sure if the nipples have issue freezing, even if the barrel isn't frozen
The water cycles often enough that it is fresh enough for the chickens. Remember, these are creatures that eat roadkill and live bugs. Their stomachs are tough!
i use a gutter from the roof so if if make the rapture y chickns will get water and you should place the drum in a huge low waterpan you wont loose so much water

It's tough to lose chickens to predators! Thanks for watching 😃

Great! I think you're going to love not having to be on top of watering continually.
Great video, I’m ordering some of these for my spoiled birds
These are gonna spoil YOU, with how infrequently you need to water them. 😅
Thank you

These chickens will eat ANYTHING that moves lol
How do you keep it from freezing in the winter?
Cool
Well I’m about to do it by hand lol!
I just bought these water things you suggested thank you. So how do feed and what, how often?

How do you combat the vacuum pressure as the water gets low? Drill a vent hole? Will that create an algae problem since it won’t be sealed then?
I will do it your way
I think you'll be happy with it!
Where do you get the red dripper things
👍🏼 .. U might strap the barrel to a post and make EQ proof too 🤠
That is a GOOD call!
what size drill bit did you use
Where can I get that blue bucket

Hi! Loved your video! Could you please tell me where to purchase the same barrel as yours??
Hi! Mine was a previously used barrel, but this is essentially the same barrel: amzn.to/3QOogT0

How do you keep the water fresh inside?
The water cycles often enough that it is fresh enough for the chickens. Remember, these are creatures that eat roadkill and live bugs. Their stomachs are tough!
so are you in an area where this could freeze, and if so can you use a water heater?
We're in SoCal, so it never freezes here. But any water heater you'd put into a livestock tank could go in something like this to prevent freezing.
Where did you find your drum?
Hey Kristy! The drum was a previously used drum, but this is a good option if you don't have a supply near you: amzn.to/3QOogT0
i use a gutter from the roof so if if make the rapture y chickns will get water and you should place the drum in a huge low waterpan you wont loose so much water
That's a great idea!
4:38 look who's looking from the window
Chicken creeper lol
Where can I purchase these barrels?
Check Craigslist
Do you get algae in it?
Very little algae on the sides!
Chickens eat chicken it's totally normal
I've had the worse luck with watering nipples of all varieties.
They don’t work worth a crap.
