I was in China. They have a different culture. It's better to see them without "Western" biases, you miss out on a lot that way. Believe me it is a very happy day for them and full of meaning. Another thing, the armies that parade perfectly coordinated, also fight perfectly coordinated, this speaks of their discipline.

I completely agree with your comments, all I see are comments about them getting executed or shot if they make a mistake but fail to consider that maybe each of the soldiers are fully dedicated to to work together to form a great parade. They have a culture that is collective and the marches and parade show a side of that. I personally do not think it’s anyone’s place to ignorantly judge and criticize without fully understanding the culture. Vice versa for the western countries.

I think parading is vital to military in the line infantry ages of the 1800s (forgive me for my immature made-up historical term) where rifles are not very accurate at distances and a group of people have to line up and fire synchronously to maximize the damage. That's also the age when modern military culture developed and thus the armies today still practice these routines.

Although not everyone can speak English fluently, young people in China are still used to watching Western TV series, cartoons, and talk shows. Before the epidemic, more than 100 million people from China went abroad to travel, study, and do business. Even now, more than 500,000 people study abroad. Maybe it’s helpful for you to know that the Chinese character for military force, “武”, is made up of two characters, “止” and “戈”, which mean “to stop” and “war”, respectively. The military force is meant for stopping wars, not to start wars. This is the Chinese military philosophy passed down from our ancient times, as old as our written characters. (14:21)
The place the marching took place was near the center of Beijing, China’s capital. The reason why it’s more densely populated than other places is because many people find jobs there, and it would be easier for them to go to their jobs on time. If you live farther away from the center, it won’t be as densely populated and the apartments are nicer.

    Hi Artur,
I am Singaporean Chinese. I am OK with your opinions, please continue to have this attitude and I sincerely hope most of the western youngsters have these naive opinions.
We and China still lag behind, we have to train harder and work harder. Not much time to belittle others. We put in lots of discipline and teamwork, put nation on top of our individual pleasure.
I also hope all the western youngsters continue to have a personal opinion, always emphasize individual rights and pleasure above everything, continue the night party lifestyle, extreme sports, music, and pay little attention to Singapore, China, Japan, East Asia.
Your country is great, your president is a politician who has a lot of smiling faces that need to please many voters, or else he fails to get votes. I wish all the voters in your country elect a president like that all the time, Your country is so successful and can afford to belittle other country leaders and their people.
China is not going to catch up. China is weak. Please continue to spread this news to all the youngsters in the western world. It will take another 80 years to catch up.
We and the Chinese aware that we are weak, we have to work harder. I wish your country the very best ya.

Cultural difference I'd say. They practice practice and practice, they use thread to measure line precision. For neck posture, they pin needle on their collar, go Google it.
13:46 It cracks me up when you say it's for launching a drone. Judging from the uniform in the background I assume you're a military man, you should know it's an airborne early warning and control plane. It's an command and control room in the air, way more advantageous than ground operation control.
From the beginning till the end you talk about Xi's facial expression. It's call stoicism, the way he speak, the way he pose, it's what Chinese call matured leadership. We actually admire less talking action only leader. He was a poor farmer rising through the rank, so he must have been through a lot. Asking him to smile on this solemn occasion is like asking a veteran to smile and be cheerful on a memorial day parade where one should remember the sacrifice of fallen comrades that contribute to what they have today, if you ask me.

Most of them were commercially developed and sold on the housing market, China is nothing like the USSR and North Korea lol. As to the comment about "brainwashing", that's pretty misleading and not entirely true. A lot of the troops come from college backgrounds and they trained hard to maintain that marching discipline. I'm a Chinese and I love your videos! I'm learning a lot from your perspective of the world.
I can't stop but laugh when you call those soldiers brainwashed! Yes of course they are! Collectivism, team work, and a common goal is at the heart of any efficient army, hence why every army in the world have soldiers wearing uniforms and trained to react consistently to the same order again. Humans are born to be selfish and individualistic, and such values decrease the efficacy of the army. I would argue "brainwashing" is in place to support any good army in the world. Why would anyone willing to give up their life for something they don't absolutely believe in?
Also brainwashing is subjective. One's nationalism is another person's brain wash. We are all guilty judging each other based on our own philosophy and cultural perspectives. Here I would have to admit -- that the Chinese culture is more collectivist than the west. This culture is traditional, and in place before the communist rule.

It looks impressive, but that's all it is. They put on a good show. Drill and ceremony is probably the most neglected "skill" of any regular army for good reason. Reminds me of a retirement ceremony for a general in the 1st cav, guy wanted to be mounted on a horse at the end so he could "ride off into the sunset".
On the flip side, I will say that the sound of a large formation marching in perfect unison on asphalt is a bit startling with how loud that one footfall actual sounds.

The leaders look grim because Chinese leaders are not politicians. They are not meant to be charming, popular, or competitive as far as campaigning goes. They are meritocrats. They are the leaders because they are more competent and capable than everyone else in the CCP (~80 million members). They each are either an engineer, economist, or technocrat of some sort, and has decades of experience managing 100 million+ population clusters in multiple provinces.

I think the reason is that the chinese culture advocates for lack of individuality and everyone serving a purpose like a part of a societal machine. It is often countries like these which have 50% well ordered neat and coordinated sides and 50% the dark side. The black market. Poor living conditions. I.e. the farmers and the merchants etc. But atleast those ones have personality.
Whereas in the West where everyone is special, unique and individual. Everyone seeks to better their own lives and to make everything around them better.
Whereas in China, either you are a part of the machine and you are better for it. Or you aren't a part of the cold machine. And you are all the more worse for it.
