I loved this vlog! I'm also a very big fan of the tv5monde site, they have an incredible amount of resources from beginner to advanced. I can definitely relate to the approach you've taken with French, although I started a long time ago in school, when I first started to learn by myself, I had no idea what to do without structured lessons but I just started reading and listening and it works out I guess haha. I also know a lot of 'useless' words as a result of the sheer quantity of content I have consumed over the years so I take it as a great sign in language learning. What do you usually do in your minimmersions? It sounds like an interesting idea. Wishing you the best with your languages for the rest of the year :)
ahh thank you! i love the "useless" vocabulary too xD for minimmersion i usually try to pick a short book or a show to read/watch in full over the weekend because i find it really motivating to start and finish something in one weekend. there's also always fun things going on in the minimmersion discord like streams of TL content, etc, the link is on julianne's instagram (leaf.ling_learns) if you're not already in it (it is so fun, i took forever to join and was instantly obsessed once i did lol)
The editing on this vlog was so good! 😊 Peaceful, visually appealing. They're probably all like that, but I have a bad habit of watching with half an eye on the screen while I do other things 😅 I suppose I'll have to start the kettle and settle down to properly watch your videos from now on! It seems like you're making good progress on your goals and enjoying the journey as best can be enjoyed during the somewhat dreary month of January. In terms of starting out with comprehensible input, I more-or-less started from zero with Spanish, but it was really accessible to do so with Dreaming Spanish! For a language with fewer resources the options for starting from scratch are limited and you end up cobbling together what you can and sometimes going against your own plans. For example, in Persian I'm trying to use only comprehensible input, but there are such level gaps between content I've found and not nearly enough at each level to prepare you for the next one. I try listening several times over before deciding I'm missing enough that the content isn't quite usably comprehensible yet, and then I'll check the English for clarification or translate a few words. Of course this isn't terrible, but it's not something I've run into with Spanish where I can always say "Oh, I'm not quite at this level yet! I'll go back to simpler content".
ah thank you so much! i definitely do the half-watching listening thing as well 😆 yess, we are definitely spoiled for content in Spanish. French is nearly just as easy to find content for, but I have commitment issues loll. i love that you are learning Persian, I would love to learn some someday, the sound and history is *so* beautiful.
Thank you for making this video it was really helpful 💖💖
