  • Hello Beautiful Creative’s,
    This weeks video is jam packed! It features a large art haul unboxing, swatching newly discovered gouache brands and color mixing all in one hour long video! This is my last Art Haul video for the foreseeable future. I will talk more about why in upcoming videos but for the most part I just want to share more art making videos with you instead of tempting you to purchase art products you don’t need and possibly can’t afford.

    Love that new gouache! Don't feel bad about the unboxings. It's how we know what we may want to try or what we want to stay away from so in a way unboxing videos can also save us from making supply mistakes. We all have purchased supplies we've regretted buying (maybe that's an idea for a video for you- supplies you wish you didn't spend your money on and why). Hope you're feeling better and glad you're making use of your time with art during those times when you're not. Stay well.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Thanks also for your well wishes. Somewhere on my channel I do have a video where I mention things that I regretted purchasing.
      It’s my feeling that the unboxing video craze on TH-cam has gotten out of control and at least for now I don’t want to add to that. I may do one at the end of the year around my birthday/Christmas time. It doesn’t mean that I won’t share products with my viewers that I love and I’m using. I’ll still make videos showing work I have made with products I love. Just not unboxing videos for now. I need to spend what little energy I have making art. Have a great week!

    I ❤ your new approach regarding art haul videos!! When I first was introduced to TH-cam watercolour/art channels and was new to watercolour, I enjoyed watching art hauls because it informed me about so many new products and brands I wasn’t familiar with. As I have been watching now for a year and a half, I have discovered the channels that just seem to do constant hauls and not share actual art or using those products past the unboxing. I don’t need to watch 30-40 minutes of ads from art TH-camrs multiple times a week, when what I really want to see is the art people are creating. The only haul videos I watch now are those that indicate they’re unboxing products I already have, so I might learn something about my own supplies. I chose to watch yours because you indicated “last art haul” and I was curious. Example, I have many Art Toolkit products (love them), so I like to see how other people use and configure their products. I also like watching people choosing colours for their palettes because I learn more about colour mixing or colour choices. I hope other TH-cam channels take this approach and share their art, more than just showcasing products/hauls constantly. That would be a lovely refresh for art TH-cam (in my humble opinion 😊). I also agree with you, I think it encourages people to buy ALL the time, when otherwise, they may have been happy with what they have.

      I always think that these people couldn't possibly use up their supplies in a hundred years.

      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree 100% with what you wrote. I just decided I didn’t want to be part of that push to encourage people to purchase items they didn’t need! I started this channel to help encourage people to create art and I fell into the whole Art Haul thing. Like you mentioned, I am no longer watching art haul videos unless I want to learn more about a product I already have. I want my contact to be more meaningful and enriching than just pushing art supplies! Some people won’t like it, but it’s what my heart tells me to do. thanks for watching and commenting I enjoyed reading your thoughts.

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Dianne Levy I think the large majority of them don’t use their supplies and I think it’s becoming a real problem on TH-cam. I have decided I no longer want to contribute to this whole, “Art Haul” mania. I want to go back to just making videos that encourage others to make art. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    In case you don't know, don't open those Brusho containers!!! Instead, you stick a push pin into the center of the top and leave it there as a stopper. Just a tiny sprinkle through that pinhole is as much as you'll need. It's intensely concentrated. Can't wait to watch you play with them!

    I love the New gouache! Love what you’ve picked up. And we learn through these videos and sometimes watching those unboxing is the same as buying something new, unless you’re the type of person to try out and keep using all of your new supplies and such. The day after my father died I bought myself some new clothes (don’t do that much) and a few days later some art supplies because I needed the treat/comfort. I would have spend the same amount of money with or without all those unboxings and reviews of new products. It’s our own responsibility and we all need to learn. Although I do love your sentiment on not contributing on impulsive buying just because it looks interesting here or there. But it is our own responsibility so don’t leave out this kind of content because you feel like you’re contributing on impulse buys. Having said that, I’m looking forward to all the creativeness. I do have some catching up to do so I’m set. U til the next time!

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With all respect I disagree. I have heard some heartbreaking stories from my viewers who have an addiction to purchasing art supplies. It’s just like any other addiction and they know they need help. There’s some heartbreaking videos on TH-cam of people brave enough to speak about it. There’s one girl who opened two years worth of boxes of art supplies she had purchased and hoarded but never opened. She cried while she was opening them and shared about her addiction. I don’t want to contribute to that pain anymore than I would invite an alcoholic over for cocktails. I’m not condemning anyone else for doing unboxing videos I just don’t want to make it a steady part of my channel offerings.

      @leenb.7936 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeginnersMind-ArtMind I get what you’re saying and I applaud you for it. I’m realizing now that I might sound way more ignorant and not as unbiased as I meant it to be.
      I’m an addict myself, been so, on multiple fronts for years, decades even. It seems like I’m addicted on addiction itself, including the shopaholic kind.I just wanted to offer other sufferers the realization and the courage to tackle that problem from within themselves rather than to rely on the absence of their unhealthy habits or desires through others.
      But in truth that is a whole process of lessons, time and ups and downs. I must remain aware of how things might be read or taken out of context and much more.
      In my book there is nothing to agree or disagree on, we each have told a piece of the puzzle. And I have a lot of trust-issues that make me far too cynical to think we might ever reach a society where enough people will be kind enough to themselves and others and where people will support on and other. I acknowledge the fact that that is a flaw of mine that I’d best keep in mind when/before commenting. Also that’s something better left unsaid (the negative in general)since we can only focus on the positive if we let our words and comments outweigh the negative. But still, it’s something any one of us might be able to learn anything from and even if it’s one person, then that has had it’s purpose do I’ll just mention it once. And rein myself in a bit thr next time before hitting “enter” or “send”. Passion is good but as with all things, that too needs moderation

I have a small set of pastels but couldn't tell you up or down how to use 'em no matter how much I watch. I watch Lena as well. Used t he medium and still had some mold. I have same airtight palette you have. Used the medium most for faster drying gouache pigments in that palette that harden quicker. Admit it sat long between uses so mold maybe my fault. Note which pigment receives the medium which I didn't do so you'll have better idea if medium was in fact "protective ".

    • @BeginnersMind-ArtMind
      @BeginnersMind-ArtMind  ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this is going to be a dry pallet I don’t think I will have a problem with mold but who knows lol. I’m mostly hoping that the medium prevents colors like ultramarine blue and burnt umber from cracking, crumbling and falling out of the pallet. I could Also experiment with adding gum arabic. It’ll be fun playing around with different mixes To see if I can find something that makes using a portable, dry gouache palette work for me.

    I love art hauls when they make sense. Like trying a new medium, or getting new colors of something they already love, or something that just got out and you want to try etc. But Its getting ridiculous on youtube. I used to get a little "jealous" when watching hauls but then I started watching people haul 15 different watercolor palettes in one video. And it wouldn't' be so bad if they actually used the art materials they show, because most of the time they just swatch them, at most. There's channels that only do hauls. It is about consumerism now.
    It has become like the beauty community on youtube where people have 100 blushes, 200 eyeshadow palettes and 80 bronzers.
    I try to only buy things I don't already own. Sometimes I repeat mediums but from brands that are different enough that I can tell the difference. Like having pentel pastels and neopastels. Or different brands of soft pastels that have different hardness. Or having fluid and heavy body acrylic. Or trying different brands but buying colors I don't already own.

    Speaking of Korea (S. Korea, that is,) I just ordered and received a set of Mungyo Gallery (Gallery is their professional line,) Hand -Rolled half stick soft pastels. Mungyo is a Korean brand. Jerry from Jerry’s Artarama says he will hold them up against any of the premium hand-rolled pastels. For $40, you get 30 half sticks. They are rated as lightfast, with pigments disclosed, vivid colors and are very rich and velvety….and so much CHEAPER than the premium brands or “super premium” boutique brands. I figure these ARRTX are good too, but I haven’t seen any reviews of them yet, so it’ll be interesting to hear what you think. I want to learn and do more with pastels, so I’m glad to up my game with these. 😊 P.S. I’ve been allured by the SUI gouache advertised on Amazon too. It looks so beautiful and apparently, it is. But can they compete with Holbein pastel gouache colors? It would be fun to compare. One of these days, when I get some mad money, I’m gonna get some of those beauties.😊

    Yes…Linda…( I’m not a YT creator…I used to be for a short while but it never took off….) Thanks for sharing your reality check with us. I had ramped up my supply buying lately. In my defense, I will say that I’m sure I will use what I’ve recently ordered. I’m not ordering “stuff” just for the kick of getting something new in the mail…although, receiving packages IS kind of addictive….and some of the items are things I’ve been wanting for quite some time and I just decided to pull the trigger. That being said, I love to watch haul videos…we all do, I guess? and they present a ton of temptation for many of us. Many creators will put on regular haul videos bc it increases their viewership. Ok we know that…can’t blame anyone for that. But then we know there are many of these creators who are already super loaded with supplies they can never, ever, use. Now some people do giveaways and donations of their excess stuff…so that’s good. But with some creators being given supplies for review and/or promotion by businesses AND they have regular hauls AND they get HAPPY MAIL on top of that. Wow! that’s a lot of stuff. And there’s nothing wrong with that either. And many people are also relying 100% on their YT channel for their living, so that’s a consideration when we see them doing so many hauls or receiving so much free merch. Our mantra needs to be: THINK BEFORE YOU BUY! And when we think things may be getting out of hand, we’re spending too much, then we need to be able to step back….take a break from all the buying and seek a balance to look at what we already have. Thanks!

I want to help people create not entice them to buy so that is the reason I am not watching or filming big art hauls anymore. I will still share with people the art supplies that I enjoy and I am using I’m just not gonna do the big hoopla unboxing videos anymore. There are plenty of others that will continue doing them 😉

    I swear Amazon's algorithm is going to get mighty confused with all us artists buying makeup supplies and containers but no actual makeup 😂 I have that triple sharpener as well, I've not yet got anything that needs the largest hole but I do find the middle one fits the caran d'ache neocolor II pastels without issue. The smallest size is 8mm which should fit all standard graphite and coloured pencils. Both the senex and sui gouache are gorgeous, I've got loads I need to work through before I can buy new gouache (as much as some brands are tempting me)
    For the schmincke super granulating colours, almost all the tubes are mixes of other colours so if you have some of the colours used you can always try mixing up your own combinations. The only two in the range which are wholly new are volcano yellow (PY159) and volcano red (PR108); other commonly used pigments are PBk11 (used in 14 mixes), PB29 (used in 13 mixes), PBr7 (used in 8 mixes), and PBr33 (used in 8 mixes). If you want a specific mix let me know and I can give you the pigments used in it💖

Just be careful that you don’t use it on water soluble items like Neocolor II or Stabilo‘s because the cold wax might move the pigment around.

I noticed that for many creators, their art haul videos have peak vieweship several times more than their normal art videos. If you’re trying to desperately grow subscribers then it is hard not to use this formula. I unsubscribe if a creator does nothing but art hauls. Yes, you are correct, it’s true that it grows our viewer numbers vastly. As a disabled artist that depends greatly on my TH-cam income I got sucked into it. Once I realized I was starting to purchase things just because I was having a health flare up or feeling depressed I realized I needed to stop. I didn’t want to enable others that were going through similar things, especially since this channel is geared towards people with chronic illness/pain or other difficult life issues.
      I was glad you shared that you do appreciate hearing about occasional products that content creators enjoy. I am still going to show products that I enjoy or that are new to me that I think my viewers might like. For example this Saturday I show a set of the Senex gouache that I’ve been talking about and enjoying lately. However it is only a small part of a more involved video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Happy spring!
