ayumi hamasaki / 浜崎あゆみ - Dearest (re.flextions EPIC OPUS mix)

In this mix, I went back to something familiar. It's another Ayumi Hamasaki mix. It is a mix which I attempt to recreate a grandiose sound using orchestral instrumentation. It is sort of a return to my roots mix. I did not first learn about music from listening to electronic dance music after all. I first learn about music formally in a school brass band.
When it comes to remixing "Dearest", most of the mixes I listen weren't quite my taste. I thought that they took that melancholic magic that "Dearest" had by putting the percussion on double time, making the melody too draggy at least for my liking? I wanted to retain the well-paced melancholic magic that "Dearest" had.
My solution (the use of the word was intentional for I sometimes like to view music as a problem to be solved) to this was found in Tomorrowland's approach to their Symphony of Unity; the usage of classical orchestral instruments together with synths. With the infusion of orchestral elements, I thought it allowed me to break the stereotype that "electronic dance music needs to be fast paced at 128bpm".
This became a challenge for me as a beginner #mixengineer doing a one man show in #musicproduction , first time attempting to mix a 24 track arrangement with synths and classical elements which requires different treatment to the music. I don't think it's perfect at this moment, but I thought it's more important that I get the music out to everyone first to see what you think of it.
And so this is where this is, a 7 minute EPIC OPUS rendition of "Dearest" by Ayumi Hamasaki, mixed by re.flextions, yours truly.
