I left evangelical Christianity for some of the reasons encountered by William Patrick. I was fed up with their defining who was going to hell. They had few good answers for many questions I had. They had no good reason for believing in the Trinity. I found the LDS church had a solid theology, was Bible based, and believed in continual revelation. I have been a member for almost 30 years now and serve in a ward bishopric.

Evangelicals don't know God... GOD is LOVE... He LOVES everyone, and it's His greatest desire for us to be in heaven where His loving ways are the rules for living... But He doesn't want FORCED love... Many don't want to be under any authority but themselves... They want things to be the way they think they should be; aren't willing to be guided by the Lord (whose guidance is given in the BIBLE)... Heaven is the place where people accept the Lord and follow His example... Hell is where ppl congregate who love only themselves... Have put their ideas of how things should be above guidance given in the Bible...

Once you leave the neutral innocence grounds their is no going back. The Holy Ghost restores the truth by bringing darkness into light, at that point you have to make a decision to follow Jesus Christ or deny him and become a enemy of God, there is no more going back to being neutral again.
The honesty this man is having with him self is a skill and attribute far too many people, including many LDS, have not developed. God bless this man in his search for truth. I too am amazed at the LDS faith(but... I am LDS. So that is expected).
Wonderful content! It took my husband 7years worth of missionaries. It took 20 years of membership and he became Bishop just before and during during the pandemic.

I have been thinking a lot about the word of wisdom lately. I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I can’t have ultra processed foods or sugar now. The word of wisdom is much deeper than no alcohol and coffee. The conspiring men reference is rampant. So much greed and fraud in the food industry. Anything to make a buck. So grateful for the word of wisdom. I believe I am one of many in our church who need to dive deeper than the items mentioned that will keep you from the temple. I’m continually being humbled and taught by God through scripture, prayers and others. Great podcast, so many good people throughout the world, and in our history that have never heard of Christ. I’ve been given so much knowledge in my lifetime. Ultimate respect for those that didn’t have that knowledge, but followed that light that they were born with to do good and strive to keep those God-given values we all have in common. Great comment. I think the same thing of the WofW. It boggles the mind how the rest of the world ridicules it when it was clearly inspired and well ahead of its time. Nobody in the 1800’s knew anything about the science behind proper nutrition, yet Joseph Smith did? Come on folks, it’s so clearly inspired.

Thank you for sharing your experience with experiences. I grew up LDS but when I was young my parents encouraged me to learn about other religions and to figure out my own testimony. Doing that and seeing the answers we have that no one else does was such a huge testimony builder for me. I love the Book of Mormon. And the plan of salvation has been a huge blessing in my life.
William I don't know if you will read this but just know how grateful I am to you for coming onto this channel and sharing your experience. I will be praying for you and your family brother and dearly hope you will continue to see an outpouring of the blessings the restored and fullness of the gospel brings to not only you but all those you interact with. I truly love the plan of salvation doctrines and have studied them deeply my whole life. It's not just a theory or charted map like we often teach it on an elementary level.. it truly is THE PLAN that God the Father laid out for all of us and that we WILLINGLY accepted in the pre-earth existence as his Spirit sons and daughters. Having a full perspective of eternity has enriched my life in more ways than I could ever thank God for. I'm a husband and father of two and I can't imagine doing it without having a complete knowledge of pre earth, earthly, and post earthly life.

William, you are awesome man. I appreciate your honest search for truth. My take on the Sacrament/Water thing. Water has significant symbolism to Christ and even his suffering - Christ is the Living Water - Water gushed out when Christ was pierced with the spear - When Moses struck the rock and water poured out, it was symbolic of Christ - We renew our Baptismal Covenants, we are baptized with water - Water is used for ritual cleansing in ancient Israel, symbolically representing Christ cleansing us I hope this helps with a traditional tie that brings more meaning to the water you drink when taking Sacrament!
I love all those connections, and maybe there is a practical side to it also. God is always forward thinking, and, of course we sustain our leaders as seers who receive a sense of the future. Think of the challenges presented, not only to pioneers moving west and getting established, but also to a worldwide church in every nation on earth, trying to find wine or grape juice so their worship would be acceptable. I see the mercy of God in directing the use of two ubiquitous substances which would be easily accessible to His Saints, no matter their location or condition.
This was awesome Jacob and Brad. It’s crazy how the Holy Ghost testifies boldly when truth is being shared, as a way to answer honest questions from truth seekers. This gentleman is great, I wish he and his family well wherever they go.

I am so impressed with this conversation and delving into Mr Patrick's desire to know truth . I am a product of LDS pioneers crossing the plains and settling Salt Lake City and building the temples. My heritage is something I value because I love my heavenly Father and my Savior and the Book of Mormon. My testimony has truly been strengthened tonight. I appreciate the symbolism of wine and how that relates to us, but I also love the symbolism that Christ is the living water and there's a purity to water that reminds me of the purity of Christ.
Christ refers to living water all the time. I think this term is more correct and with the sacrament it makes more sense to me. It's one of those "Easter eggs" of doctrine you learn by the Spirit...
Two things about the sacrament emblems. 1) in the header of that D&C section, it does mention how enemies of the church would attempt to poison wine they sold to Joseph. 2) LDS allow infants and toddlers to have sacrament. How would hurling grape juice around work in terms of pragmatic facility upkeep? The entire pews and carpets would be juice stained. Minor point but still..... we are the only church that regularly allow tiny babies to have sacrament. Other churches restrict to adults or older kids confirmed in the faith.
I recalled the same instruction about poisoning of the wine. When the soldier thrust the spear into the Savior's side he shed water and blood. He didn't shed wine...just a thought

I absolutely loved this episode! I can confidently say that I felt the Holy Ghost teaching me as I listened to this discussion. I did have one thought about the symbolism of the sacrament. A lot of our symbolism is about the Living Christ - Elder Holland recently gave a great talk about why we don’t use the Cross or Crucifix as a symbol in our church - essentially that our focus is on Christ’s resurrection and life. With that in mind, one of the new hymns that was added to our Sunday services is hymn 1008. Part of the first verse says, “In the garden Jesus suffered every sin and every woe, bleeding drops from every pore that we might forgiveness know. Bread of life, living water, feed my heart, fill my soul…” I think another layer as to why we use water instead of wine (or juice), is because Christ taught that, “…whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14) I know that this is meshing two completely separate stories in the New Testament - all I’m saying is that the symbolism of water I think can be taken to a deeper level rather than just saying it’s more practical or pragmatic. To me it’s a way of recognizing and remembering the blood of Christ in His death - but also thinking about the living water he has given (and is currently giving) through the covenants I have made with Him in life. I absolutely love this video! Thank you for this very genuine and thoughtful discourse. To William’s question referencing the King Follett Discourse, “Does God have gods above him,” I will say I have pondered this, and related questions for a long, long time. The answer I have received in my wondering and questioning diverges from Jacob’s response. I see little difference between the traditional Christian concept of ex nihilo creation, and the big bang theory of modern theoretical physics. Both believe that once there was nothing: no time, no space - nothing. The traditional Christians add, “…except God,” the description of which, “without body, parts, or passions,” or something of that nature, sounds to me like more of nothing. The notion of “nothing” is foreign to my soul! The only other possibility, then, is that everything is eternal - there never was a beginning and there will be no end. Both ideas are difficult to comprehend, but I find the latter more palatable, and more consistent with other teachings of the Prophet Joseph. When I ponder this in connection with the understanding of “purpose” as it is given in restoration scriptures, ironically, though still somewhat incomprehensible, it makes sense to me. I simply cannot accept nothingness and purposelessness. It is sufficient for me to know that we have literal, loving heavenly parents, and one day, the time will come, “A time … in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest. All thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, shall be revealed and set forth upon all who have endured valiantly for the gospel of Jesus Christ.” - [D&C 121:28-29]
Going back and reading D&C 121 since my response yesterday, I find that verse 32 has somehow eluded me in the past. Reading it now, in context with the narrative of the entire section, I find that you all make good points in this discussion, and it clearly supports Jacob's response. Ultimately, the definitive answer to this question is not something we can obtain in this life. I am content with the promise in verses 28 and 29. Thanks again for this discussion. I find I have been enlightened by it through further pondering and study.

This was one of my favorite things I’ve ever watched. I have loved getting to see over the last year or so how more and more people of other Christian faiths come to understand more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and for all involved to be respectful and sharing their understanding and love of Christ. This guest, William, is an example to me already. He and his wife seem incredible. For the discussion on free will vs determinism, my understanding is that God knows everything from the beginning to the end and from the end to the beginning. Which means that God knows everything based upon causal relationships, backwards and forwards. God knows where we're going to end up, and so knows where we're going. God knows where we came from, so He knows where we're going. God's understanding is so large that it braids together the strands of possibility into one cohesive whole, where your choices still exist, but it was only the decision you were ever going to make. It's not about forcing you into something, it's about knowing where you've been and where you're going, so He knows where you are. There aren't 'multiple timelines' because that's just not physically possible. There's one timeline and we all exist in it together, experiencing the only decisions we would ever make based upon where we're going and where we've been.
The rub comes from the logical conclusions of “ex nihilo” doctrine of creation. If God creates everything out of nothing (and he creates it perfectly to his design, e.i. doesn’t make mistakes) he, of necessity creates things for the express purpose of damning them. Some argue he gives free to act out their own nature, but that’s a moot point in this scenario because he creates the nature of all things. It’s a circle that can’t be squared with any explanation except predetermination.
At the end Jacob was talking about music. The question is often offered by the antagonist about the writing style in the Book of Mormon. Before I learned about chiasmus i realized that the book read in a poetic rhythm. The easiest way to memorize important things is through song, and therefore poetry is a big part of how music is created

To add on to Brad's comments about Adam and Eve having an eternal marriage... Another evidence for me in the scriptures that marriage is intended to be eternal in nature is the comparison Christ makes of His church being His bride and he being the Bridegroom. Those who will be with Christ eternally after this life are only those He considers to be His Bride (His church). The metaphor falls apart if Marriage was intended for this life only.

I’d like to add about the wine topic, with as much as I see church members accidentally spilling their water onto their clothing or the bench, I can see how problematic it might be with children spilling sticky grape juice all over the chapel or spilling it on your white shirt? I do see the wisdom in water. 😄
Excellent video. Couple of comments: 1. Regarding the doctrine of free will and differences from Calvinism, the doctrine of the eternal nature of man is so important. If we believe that God created us out of nothing then it’s easy to see things from a Calvinistic point of view. But we are eternal beings. We chose to come to Earth and participate in the plan of Salvation and go through trial and be tested. That changes things entirely. 2. Regarding the Sacrament and using water. Opportunity missed to explain that Joseph Smith actually was visited by a heavenly messenger on his way to procuring wine for the sacrament who explained that it didn’t matter what we used so long as our eye is single to the glory of God and we remember Him. (D&C 27:2-3) 2. For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory-remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins. 3 Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, that you shall not purchase wine neither strong drink of your enemies;

Such an awesome discussion. A Muslim girl that lived with us in exchange said that God wants us to think about him always, and that includes what we put in our bodies. Word of wisdom. In a weird way, we can thank the ex mormon community because they will leave no stone unturned to discredit Gods / Jesus's restored church. This means that this that join will confront these things at the beginning and have a choice. Your comments on being broken by the new theology are so cool. I had to wonder about those that leave church because they are broken by it too in that they, speaking anecdotally, don't go to other churches but seem to drop religion completely.
The only reason CS Lewis did not join the LDS church was because all Christians needed him, and they were not GOING TO listen to him. IF He had joined the church.. that’s my take on it.

I just wonder how we know that just as many, if not more, would have clicked on it had it been titled “Amazed by the Church of Jesus Christ”? I know the intentions are good. But the continued use of “LDS”, “Mormon”, etc. within the dialogue of the conversations between the hosts and guests (who are members of the Church) seems to indicate that what the Lord has asked through His prophet is not being taken seriously enough, doesn’t it? That and His prophet’s promise: “I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, THE LIKES OF WHICH WE HAVE NEVER SEEN. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.” I don’t see anything in that promise about being logical in the use of titles, but to have faith in Him to move nonmembers to click on the videos. Also, to say some groups have gotten the okay from the Brethren to use the term Mormon is here-say, at least to us, the general audience of these channels. And even if that’s true for Ward Radio, Thoughtful Faith, The Stick of Joseph, and those growing in influence, it’s not true for everyone and those who start channels now will be influenced by these channels examples, which negate what the Lord has asked and decreed in reference to His church and it’s members. It doesn’t make sense that the Brethren (First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve - I don’t mean General Authorities) would give such an okay for this reason, and continue to remove Jesus Christ from titles and dialogue. Is that a written okay or just a verbal? These channels which ARE doing a LOT of good and I’m so grateful for you and everyone willing to put their voice and face out there for our Savior, Jesus Christ, and for His truths and His church, but I believe they would be doing MUCH better if His promises were fully relied on.

T They do not represent all the believers of the Book of Mormon.
An article I read about The Book of Mormon musical noted the double standard that allowed the mocking of “Mormons” but not other religions and put it down to the church having no “cultural cache”. There is a cultural hurdle for almost everyone who considers joining the church because it is, as Christ makes clear, not of this world. If you take the Bible at its word then being a peculiar, hated, slandered, heretic…but very good people, are to be expected as typical of Christ’s church.
I am a longtime practicing Latter Day Saint. My non-member ex-daughter-in-law said once, "I'm never going to be a Mormon." I replied that it's OK - but the Lord instructs in the scriptures that we all need to be tolerant of each other. I added that when we leave this life & go to heaven, that there will still be an organized, perfected "religion." It won't be the Catholic, or Baptist, or Methodist, or Lutheran, or Buddhism, etc. - it will be the literal church of Jesus Christ, with Him at the head. But we will all still have our agency to accept or reject it. My ex-daughter-in-law had nothing more to say.
Temple sealing are definitely about the unity of husband and wife BUT it is also about uniting the family of God. It’s about a family tree, God’s family unity in purpose and oneness with God.

“Whoever drinks the water that I shall give, will never thirst again” He is the living water. I’ve come to see the sacrament as the bread of life and living water as much as His body and blood. Either way, I’m partaking of Him.
Do some studying on why we moved from wine to water…multifaceted…days of persecution, buying wine for the sacrament put members at risk of being poisoned. Members were instructed to use only wine they themselves made, not to purchase locally, otherwise they should use water that is a clear liquid with no taste…poisons can be unnoticeable when mixed in a dark pungent beverage like wine.
For your upcoming thing with Trent Horn, i would recommend reading through the Rule of St Benedict. It includes a fantastic examination of how to feel and recognize the Spirit.

24:33 my embarrassing missionary story, we had visitors at church, a member was talking about how he was “grateful to both of his wives.” We didn’t have the opportunity to clarify to the visitors, because they made a beeline out of there. This guy was referring to his wife who passed away, and then getting remarried later. Sorry strangers, perhaps I’d have been a better missionary if I’d been less timid and more linebacker in a skirt.

We seem to forget the combination of water and wine. The original Passover was celebrated with wine mixed with water. and when the spear pierced Christ's side, blood and winter issued forth. Water has always been a part of the sacrament.

Once you leave the neutral innocence grounds their is no going back. The Holy Ghost restores the truth by bringing darkness into light, at that point you have to make a decision to follow Jesus Christ or deny him and become a enemy of God, there is no more going back to being neutral again.

I have been thinking a lot about the word of wisdom lately. I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I can’t have ultra processed foods or sugar now. The word of wisdom is much deeper than no alcohol and coffee. The conspiring men reference is rampant. So much greed and fraud in the food industry. Anything to make a buck. So grateful for the word of wisdom. I believe I am one of many in our church who need to dive deeper than the items mentioned that will keep you from the temple. I’m continually being humbled and taught by God through scripture, prayers and others. Great podcast, so many good people throughout the world, and in our history that have never heard of Christ. I’ve been given so much knowledge in my lifetime. Ultimate respect for those that didn’t have that knowledge, but followed that light that they were born with to do good and strive to keep those God-given values we all have in common. Enjoyed listening, thank you!
Great comment. I think the same thing of the WofW. It boggles the mind how the rest of the world ridicules it when it was clearly inspired and well ahead of its time. Nobody in the 1800’s knew anything about the science behind proper nutrition, yet Joseph Smith did? Come on folks, it’s so clearly inspired.

Thank you for sharing your experience with experiences. I grew up LDS but when I was young my parents encouraged me to learn about other religions and to figure out my own testimony. Doing that and seeing the answers we have that no one else does was such a huge testimony builder for me. I love the Book of Mormon. And the plan of salvation has been a huge blessing in my life.
William I don't know if you will read this but just know how grateful I am to you for coming onto this channel and sharing your experience. I will be praying for you and your family brother and dearly hope you will continue to see an outpouring of the blessings the restored and fullness of the gospel brings to not only you but all those you interact with. I truly love the plan of salvation doctrines and have studied them deeply my whole life. It's not just a theory or charted map like we often teach it on an elementary level.. it truly is THE PLAN that God the Father laid out for all of us and that we WILLINGLY accepted in the pre-earth existence as his Spirit sons and daughters. Having a full perspective of eternity has enriched my life in more ways than I could ever thank God for. I'm a husband and father of two and I can't imagine doing it without having a complete knowledge of pre earth, earthly, and post earthly life.

Water has significant symbolism to Christ and even his suffering
- Christ is the Living Water
- Water gushed out when Christ was pierced with the spear
- When Moses struck the rock and water poured out, it was symbolic of Christ
- We renew our Baptismal Covenants, we are baptized with water
- Water is used for ritual cleansing in ancient Israel, symbolically representing Christ cleansing us
I hope this helps with a traditional tie that brings more meaning to the water you drink when taking Sacrament!
I love all those connections, and maybe there is a practical side to it also. God is always forward thinking, and, of course we sustain our leaders as seers who receive a sense of the future. Think of the challenges presented, not only to pioneers moving west and getting established, but also to a worldwide church in every nation on earth, trying to find wine or grape juice so their worship would be acceptable. I see the mercy of God in directing the use of two ubiquitous substances which would be easily accessible to His Saints, no matter their location or condition.

This was awesome Jacob and Brad. It’s crazy how the Holy Ghost testifies boldly when truth is being shared, as a way to answer honest questions from truth seekers. This gentleman is great, I wish he and his family well wherever they go.
William, another great TH-cam channel for answering questions about the LDS church is Saints Unscripted. They touch upon most if not all of the areas where the LDS church is attacked and back it up with a lot of footnotes.
I am so impressed with this conversation and delving into Mr Patrick's desire to know truth . He is one who is truly interested in a productive dialogue seeking answers instead of confrontation and argument. I sincerely enjoyed all of your questions and answers. I am a product of LDS pioneers crossing the plains and settling Salt Lake City and building the temples. My heritage is something I value because I love my heavenly Father and my Savior and the Book of Mormon. My testimony has truly been strengthened tonight. Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, for which I am truly grateful . I appreciate the symbolism of wine and how that relates to us, but I also love the symbolism that Christ is the living water and there's a purity to water that reminds me of the purity of Christ.
Christ refers to living water all the time. I think this term is more correct and with the sacrament it makes more sense to me. It's one of those "Easter eggs" of doctrine you learn by the Spirit...

Two things about the sacrament emblems. 1) in the header of that D&C section, it does mention how enemies of the church would attempt to poison wine they sold to Joseph. 2) LDS allow infants and toddlers to have sacrament. How would hurling grape juice around work in terms of pragmatic facility upkeep? The entire pews and carpets would be juice stained. Minor point but still..... we are the only church that regularly allow tiny babies to have sacrament. Other churches restrict to adults or older kids confirmed in the faith.

I absolutely loved this episode! I can confidently say that I felt the Holy Ghost teaching me as I listened to this discussion.
I did have one thought about the symbolism of the sacrament. A lot of our symbolism is about the Living Christ - Elder Holland recently gave a great talk about why we don’t use the Cross or Crucifix as a symbol in our church - essentially that our focus is on Christ’s resurrection and life. With that in mind, one of the new hymns that was added to our Sunday services is hymn 1008. Part of the first verse says, “In the garden Jesus suffered every sin and every woe, bleeding drops from every pore that we might forgiveness know. Bread of life, living water, feed my heart, fill my soul…”
I think another layer as to why we use water instead of wine (or juice), is because Christ taught that, “…whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
I know that this is meshing two completely separate stories in the New Testament - all I’m saying is that the symbolism of water I think can be taken to a deeper level rather than just saying it’s more practical or pragmatic. To me it’s a way of recognizing and remembering the blood of Christ in His death - but also thinking about the living water he has given (and is currently giving) through the covenants I have made with Him in life.

To William’s question referencing the King Follett Discourse, “Does God have gods above him,” I will say I have pondered this, and related questions for a long, long time. The answer I have received in my wondering and questioning diverges from Jacob’s response.
I see little difference between the traditional Christian concept of ex nihilo creation, and the big bang theory of modern theoretical physics. Both believe that once there was nothing: no time, no space - nothing. The traditional Christians add, “…except God,” the description of which, “without body, parts, or passions,” or something of that nature, sounds to me like more of nothing. The notion of “nothing” is foreign to my soul! The only other possibility, then, is that everything is eternal - there never was a beginning and there will be no end. Both ideas are difficult to comprehend, but I find the latter more palatable, and more consistent with other teachings of the Prophet Joseph.
When I ponder this in connection with the understanding of “purpose” as it is given in restoration scriptures, ironically, though still somewhat incomprehensible, it makes sense to me. I simply cannot accept nothingness and purposelessness. It is sufficient for me to know that we have literal, loving heavenly parents, and one day, the time will come, “A time … in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest. All thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, shall be revealed and set forth upon all who have endured valiantly for the gospel of Jesus Christ.” - [D&C 121:28-29]
Going back and reading D&C 121 since my response yesterday, I find that verse 32 has somehow eluded me in the past. Reading it now, in context with the narrative of the entire section, I find that you all make good points in this discussion, and it clearly supports Jacob's response. Ultimately, the definitive answer to this question is not something we can obtain in this life. I am content with the promise in verses 28 and 29.

This was one of my favorite things I’ve ever watched. I have loved getting to see over the last year or so how more and more people of other Christian faiths come to understand more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and for all involved to be respectful and sharing their understanding and love of Christ. This guest, William, is an example to me already. He and his wife seem incredible. William, if you see this, I’d be more than happy to talk with your wife if she’d ever like to discuss things about our faith from a woman’s perspective. Some great women she could look up to learn more from are Barbara Morgan Gardner, Emily Belle Freeman, Fiona Givens, Sheri Dew, Camille Fronk Olson, Gaye Strathearn, and really any of the general presidency movers of Relief Society, Young Women’s or Primary.

For the discussion on free will vs determinism, my understanding is that God knows everything from the beginning to the end and from the end to the beginning. Which means that God knows everything based upon causal relationships, backwards and forwards. God knows where we're going to end up, and so knows where we're going. God knows where we came from, so He knows where we're going.
God's understanding is so large that it braids together the strands of possibility into one cohesive whole, where your choices still exist, but it was only the decision you were ever going to make. It's not about forcing you into something, it's about knowing where you've been and where you're going, so He knows where you are.
There aren't 'multiple timelines' because that's just not physically possible. There's one timeline and we all exist in it together, experiencing the only decisions we would ever make based upon where we're going and where we've been.
The rub comes from the logical conclusions of “ex nihilo” doctrine of creation. If God creates everything out of nothing (and he creates it perfectly to his design, e.i. doesn’t make mistakes) he, of necessity creates things for the express purpose of damning them. Some argue he gives free to act out their own nature, but that’s a moot point in this scenario because he creates the nature of all things. It’s a circle that can’t be squared with any explanation except predetermination.
At the end Jacob was talking about music. The question is often offered by the antagonist about the writing style in the Book of Mormon. Before I learned about chiasmus i realized that the book read in a poetic rhythm. The easiest way to memorize important things is through song, and therefore poetry is a big part of how music is created

To add on to Brad's comments about Adam and Eve having an eternal marriage...
Another evidence for me in the scriptures that marriage is intended to be eternal in nature is the comparison Christ makes of His church being His bride and he being the Bridegroom. Those who will be with Christ eternally after this life are only those He considers to be His Bride (His church). The metaphor falls apart if Marriage was intended for this life only.

Excellent video. Couple of comments:
1. Regarding the doctrine of free will and differences from Calvinism, the doctrine of the eternal nature of man is so important. If we believe that God created us out of nothing then it’s easy to see things from a Calvinistic point of view. But we are eternal beings. We chose to come to Earth and participate in the plan of Salvation and go through trial and be tested. That changes things entirely.
2. Regarding the Sacrament and using water. Opportunity missed to explain that Joseph Smith actually was visited by a heavenly messenger on his way to procuring wine for the sacrament who explained that it didn’t matter what we used so long as our eye is single to the glory of God and we remember Him. (D&C 27:2-3)
2. For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory-remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins.
3 Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, that you shall not purchase wine neither strong drink of your enemies;
1:36:52 if you look at ancient Chinese religion, prior to confusionism daoism etc, they have a “Head God” as well, called Shang Di, super fascinating deep dive into ancient Chinese characters and how they relate to the creation story too!

In a weird way, we can thank the ex mormon community because they will leave no stone unturned to discredit Gods / Jesus's restored church. This means that this that join will confront these things at the beginning and have a choice.
Your comments on being broken by the new theology are so cool. I had to wonder about those that leave church because they are broken by it too in that they, speaking anecdotally, don't go to other churches but seem to drop religion completely.
The only reason CS Lewis did not join the LDS church was because all Christians needed him, and they were not GOING TO listen to him. IF He had joined the church.. that’s my take on it.

Mormonism is a wider term that describes believers in the Book of Mormon apart from a Church.

You can look at it cynically, or recognize the good intentions behind it. Some groups have gotten the okay from the brethren to use the term Mormon still.

I know the intentions are good. But the continued use of “LDS”, “Mormon”, etc. within the dialogue of the conversations between the hosts and guests (who are members of the Church) seems to indicate that what the Lord has asked through His prophet is not being taken seriously enough, doesn’t it? That and His prophet’s promise: “I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, THE LIKES OF WHICH WE HAVE NEVER SEEN. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.”
I don’t see anything in that promise about being logical in the use of titles, but to have faith in Him to move nonmembers to click on the videos.
Also, to say some groups have gotten the okay from the Brethren to use the term Mormon is here-say, at least to us, the general audience of these channels. And even if that’s true for Ward Radio, Thoughtful Faith, The Stick of Joseph, and those growing in influence, it’s not true for everyone and those who start channels now will be influenced by these channels examples, which negate what the Lord has asked and decreed in reference to His church and it’s members. It doesn’t make sense that the Brethren (First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve - I don’t mean General Authorities) would give such an okay for this reason, and continue to remove Jesus Christ from titles and dialogue. Is that a written okay or just a verbal?
These channels which ARE doing a LOT of good and I’m so grateful for you and everyone willing to put their voice and face out there for our Savior, Jesus Christ, and for His truths and His church, but I believe they would be doing MUCH better if His promises were fully relied on.

An article I read about The Book of Mormon musical noted the double standard that allowed the mocking of “Mormons” but not other religions and put it down to the church having no “cultural cache”. There is a cultural hurdle for almost everyone who considers joining the church because it is, as Christ makes clear, not of this world. If you take the Bible at its word then being a peculiar, hated, slandered, heretic…but very good people, are to be expected as typical of Christ’s church.
I am a longtime practicing Latter Day Saint. My non-member ex-daughter-in-law said once, "I'm never going to be a Mormon." I replied that it's OK - but the Lord instructs in the scriptures that we all need to be tolerant of each other. I added that when we leave this life & go to heaven, that there will still be an organized, perfected "religion." It won't be the Catholic, or Baptist, or Methodist, or Lutheran, or Buddhism, etc. - it will be the literal church of Jesus Christ, with Him at the head. But we will all still have our agency to accept or reject it. My ex-daughter-in-law had nothing more to say.
Temple sealing are definitely about the unity of husband and wife BUT it is also about uniting the family of God. It’s about a family tree, God’s family unity in purpose and oneness with God.

“Whoever drinks the water that I shall give, will never thirst again” He is the living water. I’ve come to see the sacrament as the bread of life and living water as much as His body and blood. Either way, I’m partaking of Him.
Do some studying on why we moved from wine to water…multifaceted…days of persecution, buying wine for the sacrament put members at risk of being poisoned. Members were instructed to use only wine they themselves made, not to purchase locally, otherwise they should use water that is a clear liquid with no taste…poisons can be unnoticeable when mixed in a dark pungent beverage like wine.
For your upcoming thing with Trent Horn, i would recommend reading through the Rule of St Benedict. It includes a fantastic examination of how to feel and recognize the Spirit.

24:33 my embarrassing missionary story, we had visitors at church, a member was talking about how he was “grateful to both of his wives.” We didn’t have the opportunity to clarify to the visitors, because they made a beeline out of there. This guy was referring to his wife who passed away, and then getting remarried later. Sorry strangers, perhaps I’d have been a better missionary if I’d been less timid and more linebacker in a skirt.

We are told not to worry about Things that don’t affect our eternal salvation. It will be exciting to learn lot of things we don’t need to know now. Don’t worry about unnecessary things. Carol

We seem to forget the combination of water and wine. The original Passover was celebrated with wine mixed with water. and when the spear pierced Christ's side, blood and winter issued forth. Water has always been a part of the sacrament.
Being bound to covenants with God by proper, actual priesthood authority is the way to become like and with our Heavenly Parents once again.
