I haven't missed a pageant since 1965. Sadly I admit the pageants of years ago were far superior to those of today. I miss the tradition, music, suspense, production numbers.

I started watching in 1958. Bring back the pageants during those golden years!

I’ve been following each of the pageants along online year by year started with 1968. With introduction in color. Enjoy pageants watched them live when I was about 12 years old in middle school . Never saw them prior to 1978. So this one was great. I was 10 at this time. But find that Miss America Pageants are the most beautiful and entertaining of them all. Miss USA and Miss Universe have their own qualities. Starting to love the look and styles of the ladies here. Beautiful hair break heavy on cosmetics as it got in the 80’s. Miss America is the longest most historic of all pageants. I’m just saddened by how it’s importance has slipped in the past 15 years or so. It was really something from the 70’s to the 90’s so iconic for young American woman to win the title of Miss America. This year the pageant wasn’t even broadcast on network TV!!For the first time it could only be seen Online. Miss Wisconsin won Miss America 2023. Really sad , Only Online a First for a fine part of history. I love this pageant!!❤😊🎉🇺🇸🇺🇸👌💐⭐️👌💐

The lovely Susan Lawrence, Miss North Carolina 1975, passed away this week. One of our most beautiful Miss North Carolinas and a very gracious lady. May she rest in peace.

Miss Connecticut (at 8:35) was Mary Cadorette who would go on to star as the live-in girlfriend of Jack Tripper (John Ritter) nine years later in the THREE'S COMPANY spin-off and one-season-blunder, THREE'S A CROWD. :) :)

I had North Carolina as Miss America followed by New York, California, Ohio and Arizona. I would say a very close pageant. As previously discussed, Tawny Godin had to win it with the interview. She went on to long career working in TV news in LA. Overall, the 70’s was a great period for Miss America. The musical numbers in between the competition weren’t as good as previous broadcasts. Without the NBA and NHL Playoffs, and Baseball, this has been a nice diversion looking back.

Ok, I’m going to say it. I don’t remember the hairstyles of young women in the seventies being so matronly! I was 7 in 1975 and all I really remember was The Farrah and Jaclyn Smith’s kind of hair, as well as Kate Jackson’s and Dorothy Hamill’s. Sheesh!!

Miss Arizona, followed by Miss California, were the prettiest. But Miss America is not a Beauty Pageant, like Miss USA. The judges, in this case, picked the right winner.

They aren't trying to be sexy or showy, just classy, optimistic, and beautiful. What happened to us in 50 years? Anyone know how to time travel? What happened to this kind of normalcy? Is it because being an extrovert and competition is prized more? I missed the 20th century and sometimes they just seem more human and like they hold themselves with something, I don't know what, but just there's something different. They just seem more human to me instead of some display.

Wow, did North Texas State University have some kind of deal with the Miss Texas Pageant? An awful lot of 70s Miss Texas winners were NTSU students. Was very rare to see a UT-Austin, A&M, Baylor or SMU girl as Miss Texas.

Miss NC was from my hometown so I was really pulling for her but I knew that talent might be an issue. She was gorgeous and was a stellar communicator so she probably had the best interview after Tawny. All I can figure is that California must have had a dreadful interview because she certainly won onstage in my opinion.

1974, 1975, and 1976 winners are wonderful group of women. I totally believe though that their wins were needed to stifle the Women's Liberation Movement during this time. @@SoutherbBelle well, i'd agree with you on that, but on 2/3 of the way. Unfortunately, although very intelligent, having already earned her Masters here at -what was she 21?- Shirley Cothran is NOT even close to what any women's lib group would welcome as a MEMBER let alone as a speaker- and I am only basing this on her well known focus or approach in regards to her area of expertise in early childhood development and family counseling. Womens Lib movement was about "choice" for the female and aside from the fact that yes SHE may have been able to attain her Phd, have 4 children, and enjoy a lucrative speaking and practical career, its the message in the end that she espouses as her focus that leaves her kind of out of the womens lib realm. but otherwise- yes I agree with the others. I also believe that its highly likely that Tawny excelled in her prelim interview.

@@pageantsheyday so i just checked the Wikipedia page for the listings of previous Miss Arizona's. Although not universally accepted as a reliable source for accurate info (a Canadian cousin of mine who's a school teacher told me last year that public school students be are NOT allowed to use wiki as a resource in homework for issues over truths of the citations), i do nonetheless go to wiki both for the MAO pageant results if i want a specific year as well as to the states. And to the far right of each contestant is a space to add any further info of particular interest regarding each person. It does not mention anywhere on either the Ms Arizona page or the MAO page for this year as to why she resigned. And only the miss Arizona mentions an apparent resignation as an explanation for a 2nd Miss Arizona 1975, Vickie Hall.
