OK, Ragnar, you've convinced me. This cockroach simulator actually looks like something I should give a try one day.Thank you for once again tossing us a weird little gem.
This game seems quite interesting. It’s again a game I’ve never heard of, which Is always nice to find with this series! Also “Life as you know it, only really fucking close” is too relatable
7:12 that ham joke had me rolling in stitches I am constantly amazed how you manage to make pieces of media, that under normal circumstances are completely unpalatable for my tastes, into a thoroughly enjoyable presentation. If that isn't a mark of true talent and artistic class, I don't know what is.
For some reason I always thought this was some indie game from the 2010s. It's one of the first games I ever got on Steam from a humble bundle in like 2013 when I built my first gaming PC and never looked into it much. Seems like a interesting game.
The mid 90s was a great era for experimentation in computer gaming. While console gaming was basically consolidated at the time, new technologies and techniques, along with CDs (which had a lot of memory to store said new ideas), allowed developers to do a lot of new things and concepts, both gameplay wise, and graphic wise, which led to a lot of experimentation. Bad Mojo is a great example, we can also see things like "The Neverhood", both "Voyeur" games, "The 7th Guest", "Myst", "Another World" (AKA "Out of This World")... and of course who could forget "Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game". Sure, not all of them were homeruns, but still it was a great time to see new ideas come to fruition instead of having the same old platformer. Even games that looked simple on the surface, like the Marathon trilogy that looked like any other FPS at the time, experimented with a deep and complex storyline, something unheard of in that genre (FPS) at the time.
TY for the focus and exploration into the influence of FMV on the many classic (& forgotten) gems of the 90's; ...an era deeply missed more and more every year.
This video reminded me of that game called The Bunker. It has nothing to do with cockroaches or nothing of the plot but because of the FMV. I was amazed to know that some people still use fmv even now a days.
I first saw this game in magazines as a kid but only managed to play the gog version many years later. Truly a unique and interesting experience. I love everything about it!
I remember this era of games, and I remember playing this game on my older cousin's pc. I wonder if you find The Longest Journey as a forgotten gem or not.
LOVE THIS VIDEO GAME SO MUCH. Seriously. I've played the demo to death, bought the Redux edition, watched all the behind the scenes footage, and it's just so weird and so good.
I realized today that I've watched a couple of videos of yours and you consistently put in a lot of work. And tend to focus on well deserving/niche games. So I'm gonna sub, ring the bell and comment. And most likely comment on other vids. Thank you.
You have such a refreshing change of pace on your channel! The macabre, gruesome, psychological and mind-bending all have a home at RagnarRox, right where they belong :) keep up your good work and stay sane(ish)!
I love corny dramatic reenactments on crime and ghost shows, I love low-budget films filled with cringey dialogue, and I LOVE GAME FMV. This is truly a precious gem that deserved its spotlight here.
Anyone else enjoy listening to Ragnar pronounce Patreon supporters names’ as much as the video...? Your “Soul Reaver” forgotten gems still gives me hope.
Wow, I saw this game demo'd at a CompUSA one day in the 90's and have completely forgot about it until now. This video stirred up some extremely buried vague childhood memories. Very cool vid, gotta track down a copy now
Oh my god, I thought I made this game up or remembered it wrong. I watched my dad play this when I was like 5/6 years old. Thank you for making this video!
Rune #GemSuggestion As a huge fan of the Gothic series, the game Rune really surprised me with how good it is, and I have never heard of it. I only found it a few months back. Viking/Nordic/Barbaric setting, the old Unreal engine made it quite atmospheric.. So many good videos, so much nostalgia. Your work is a work of art for sure. Keep it going ;)
Ah, another great video, RagnarRox. I’ve been trying to play other kinds of games other than FPS, which is what I generally play, especially these forgotten gems. Games of those times were unique and inspired. Nowadays it’s all about following the trend to make the most profit possible even it means negatively affecting the players. Looks like Bad Mojo will be the next game for me to experience. Thanks for continuing what you do.
this was truly oblivion i still remember a point click adventure where you explore new york with some puzzles going from place to place in a taxi. cant find it T.T . was need it to put the coins from the inventory into a machine to make the taxi go to places was awesome
Great video, I never even knew this existed and I'll definitely buy it first chance I get. As a suggestion, I'll leave a personal favorite of mine, Shadow Man. #GemSuggestion
Wow. I know the 90s produced some unique games but I had no idea something like this existed at all. Keep up the good work, I really appreciate your videos...
I know Ragnar said it at the end of the video, but Patreon is so amazing and helps a lot with releasing quality content. Honestly, check it out, and maybe consider donating for more (cockroach related?) videos.
There's a short documentary on TH-cam about the inspirations and backstory behind Bad Mojo that's super interesting, like how the idea of playing as a cockroach was inspired by the team's personal cockroach horror stories from their childhood and life.
Love your Forgotten Gems videos, and the Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 video is my favorite. How about Blood Omen and Blood Omen 2? Or, a separate video on Legacy of Kain: Defiance? LoK has to be one of my favorite series. Keep it up. 😁#GemSuggestion
Kathy Rain #GemSuggestion - This one is hardly as dated as the rest of the entries of this series, but i wanted to give it a shoutout because it's honestly kind of a miracle this game exists at all. It builds up to possible sequels in the future, and it'd make my day if more people were talking about it. Also Ragnar, this game's story is right up your alley, so even if it's not a qualifier for Gems, it still deserves a video in its own right.
The Legend of Dragoon. (PSX) #GemSuggestion (I think this it's really a total unknown game, but definitely forgotten, because most people I've ever talked to either have no idea what it is, or they get hit with that "OH, I totally forgot about that! I loved that game!". Fair warning to anyone who tries it out, including RagnarRox if he somehow pick this suggestion, it is a 4 disc RPG, so it's not something you can casually work through.)
Alas it is not really possible to get it online due to licence issues, but the Blade Runner game from Westwood studios to me was one of the most interesting takes on branching choices. From what I remember, the first "ending" you could get could be like 15 minutes in, not caring at all about the main storyline.
Le Me at work: "Whelp, it's 12 and time to have a delicious and wonderful lunch. So good. I truly don't know what could make my enjoying of this very specific meal mo-" Sees new Rag. video. "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK OOOOOOOOOKOOOOOOK!!!!" Keep up the good work, man. Also, if you could do a hidden gems on Galerians that'd be awesome. In any case, cheers!
Fantastic video as always. Thank you! If you were to be transformed into an insect, which would you choose? :) A bee would be good for the existential dread that comes with your only means of defending yourself, the stinger, also being your death sentence. Death for the hive. The perfect communist. Or maybe the madness that comes with the claustrophobic cocoon of a caterpillar. That eats your sanity and body away at the same time. A meta metamorphosis. Or a dung beetle just rolling around poop boulders all day. That’d be my choice. I always did like Sisyphus. Anyway thanks for your great channel. Hope you get a million subs asking you weird questions like this.
wow, you're awesome, I didn't know you did forget jem and monsters of the week, plus other things about movies, like legit what the hell, by the way, thanks allot for talking about soul reaver, I love that game
OK, Ragnar, you've convinced me. This cockroach simulator actually looks like something I should give a try one day.Thank you for once again tossing us a weird little gem.
Oh. *Oh.* I remember that dead rat in a trap. It remained burned into depths of my brain even after I have long forgotten the name of the game.
Hadn't looked at this game since I played it as a child until now and that image is forever burnt into my brain
For me, it's the spider. That spider scared me so much as a kid
Just want you to know I love you bro. Don’t stop
This game seems quite interesting. It’s again a game I’ve never heard of, which Is always nice to find with this series!
Also “Life as you know it, only really fucking close” is too relatable
Oh my god that was a good one that nobody's ever gonna get :,D
+RagnarRox hey, have you seen "No Exit" by Sartre? I think you'd like it.
@@RagnarRoxShow Fun fact: The protagonist is played by Michael Sommers, who was in the fantastic Netflix series "sense8". The character name?
Bug.
I remember playing the demo of this. To this day it makes me itch. Turned a few heads and stomachs, indeed. Great video, Sir.
7:12 that ham joke had me rolling in stitches
I am constantly amazed how you manage to make pieces of media, that under normal circumstances are completely unpalatable for my tastes, into a thoroughly enjoyable presentation.

I was about to comment on that exact line.
@@SimplyMavAgain very interesting
@@jaygooese4242 I know, right?
Crazy that someone else posted a comment using the exact same words that I was going to use.
bought this game back in the day. Amazing originality that still holds on
Yep... I think I was 6 yrs old when I was first introduced to this game, Doom2 as well.
For some reason I always thought this was some indie game from the 2010s. It's one of the first games I ever got on Steam from a humble bundle in like 2013 when I built my first gaming PC and never looked into it much. Seems like a interesting game.
THIS IS THE FUTURE OF GAMING
The mid 90s was a great era for experimentation in computer gaming. This game looks pretty cool actually.
And I will never cease to be amazed at your ability to seemingly pronounce every name correctly.
You're the only person who can make me watch a video about my most hated insect for more than 15 minutes...
Why do u hate this insect
I read in the book ‘Lynch on Lynch’ that David Lynch intended, at a point, to adapt ‘The Metamorphosis’. Wouldn’t that be perfect?
this game remembers me about a game that didn't launch yet. Grounded has the tiny things theme, and I personally just love this theme.
TY for the focus and exploration into the influence of FMV on the many classic (& forgotten) gems of the 90's; ...an era deeply missed more and more every year.

how have I never heard of this? This is a concept I have actively wanted in a game for years, holy shit.
I first saw this game in magazines as a kid but only managed to play the gog version many years later. Truly a unique and interesting experience. I love everything about it!
I remember this game. I never did get around to playing it beyond a demo ages ago, but the idea really struck me as unique.
One of those games that seemed years ahead of its time, and probably still is.
