I've always felt that the opening of Heavensward is pitched above the singer's comfortable range - presumably deliberately, and presumably for some purpose, but I've never been able to work out what that purpose might be. Any ideas?
If you need a reminder this entire story is about war and fighting, the Oboe that plays during the "quiet" scene of the soldiers resting and children running by is actually "Torn from the Heavens", the battle theme from A Realm Reborn. Even during a respite, the battle is still there.
generally, Torn from the Heavens is associated with the Warrior of Light's struggle, it's fitting to have it in this track considering what the Warrior of Light has gone through and the need to keep pushing forward.
The oboe motif you wanted to see develop more is effectively the player character's theme and has several other tracks that flesh it out such as "makers ruin" or "from the heavens" Edit to mention "more than truth" which is a more somber interpretation similar to the way it appears in this track
the segment where the lyrics go "guide us, oh mighty fury" is associated with the Ishgardian side of the conflict, the following segment switching to dragonspeak to associate with the Dragon's side, actually the whole track can be broken up into sections "what came before" "what is to come" "the Warrior of Light's struggle in all this" "Ishgard's view of the war" and "the Dragon's view of the war"
The keyword for Heavensward is *melancholy*.
Both sides want this war to end. It's enough.
Nidhogg *really really really really* does not want this war to end.
The inability to let go is a common theme amongst FF14 villains

It reinforces the stress and strain. It puts the vocalist under pain, evoking the pain of the peoples enduring the war. Everyone wants this to *end.*

I just understood 1 thing thanks to the lyrics and analysis of rythms : the marching rythms and chorus are the dragons...

Keep em coming. Can't wait until you get to Dawntrail! 🤟
The themes of FFXIV expansions are medleys of different themes and motifs from the expansion. Dragonsong is more the theme that defines the expansion

React to drunken pipe bomb from the team fortress 2 soundtrack
I thought Heavensward was kind of boring but it has good moments
