For riders who want to "step back from big bikes" - bingo! I'm sure I'm not the only viewer who's ridden for more than 50 years (since 1968, so literally!), but no longer need or want to wrestle the weight of an HD, Victory, or other "big dog" bike. Yet we still want to experience the joy of riding that you capture so well, so the RE Meteor looks mighty appealing. Thanks for posting this!

I'm 33, only been riding 5 years, and I'm already sick of how heavy my virago 535 is! Especially since I never sold my 125 (a ybr custom) and so whenever I jump on it and appreciate how light and manoeuvrable it is I just think "I wish I had this exact bike in 250cc" and I think I'd be very happy!

Like you I am 78 and have had all the big inch bikes. Currently ride a Kymco 2012 like i a 164 cc scooter, 11.5 hp, looking at the RE 350 and have been ridding from 1963 to now. Speed and high revving bikes are of no use to me. The joy of ridding comes first.

Thanks for the excellent review. Really enjoyed it! By the way, the "toe-heel" gear shifter was designed for the British Civil servant who didn't want to scuff his spit-polished boots. First gear was up and the rest were down, the shifter was on the right side, and there was a "neutral finder" as well, so you could disengage, dismount and comb your hair while staring at your boots. Unfortunately, it wasn't designed for the tie-dye shirt wearing flip-flop rider!

Wished this had come with the Himalayan's 410cc mill producing 24hp. Hopefully a 500cc and 650cc iteration will also be launched. Would be a good city commuter as well as fared better during highway runs.
Anyway Royal Enfield is on a roll. The following models up for launch in the next few months -
    Classic
    Roadster
    Shotgun
    Hunter
    Sherpa
    Scram
    Flying Flea and
    An Electric Motorcyle
Also BSA will be launching its 650cc motorcycle by the end of the year.

I did a test ride and immediately booked one. I felt like both me and the meteor are one unit. It's a next level upgrade for RE. They want to step up, which is a good thing. And with this kind of approach they will create more user friendly machines.A big thumbs up to Royal Enfield... And the gear shifter concept is cool, as I never want to loose shine of my polished shoes. Btw, this helping the flip flop riders is kind of telepathy.. I guess. It's selling in India like hot cakes.

The quality and attention to detail looks really good. I like the round turn by turn navigation. It still keeps the bike looking classy while introducing modern features. I have the Bullet Trial 500 atm and I'm lovin it . It's perfect for B-Roads and farm lanes up to about 60 mph . The reports I'm seeing indicate the Meteor has a lot less vibration then the bullet due to the introduction of a balance shaft but the bullet is great so long as you don't want to travel on the Motorways I think . I'm actually looking at this bike purely for the MPG. I sat on one and was super impressed with the quality. I ride a Vulcan 500 now, which is 50ish HP and I love it. But for commuting on back roads this is perfect. Enfield should be applauded for that alone. Especially with all this Russia nonsense, this is the most efficient thing you can get short of a 50cc. Most people pay no mind to MPG on motorcycles, but for 5k and 90mpg, its almost an eco-bike.

Fun video! This is the ultimate back roads cruiser bike !! It's got good smooth acceleration for a 350!! I own this bike and I just road it from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and it did pretty darn good on the highway keeping around 70 miles an hour. Very planted very stable. Only issue is limited speed uphill into a headwind. But that was only a very small part of the ride. When u get into town it shines- light weight for a cruiser and very nimble with excellent ground clearance for leaning. The windshield is a must!

Couple have being touring around the world on a 1972 royal enfield 350 bullet-so far done 582,000 km. They have just attended the International Royal Enfield Rally in Greece-I think this qualifies as testament to their reliability. I think you over estimate the design quality & long term reliability of your japanese manufaturers as I've had numerous japanese motorcycles & most had design faults & Fell well short of personality & character which other manufacturers have in bucket loads like royal enfield-MotoGuzzi-Ducati-Triumph among others. The Classic 350 & bullet are used in the high Himalaya's by tour groups & also for Cape York tours as well as Sri Lanka tours because of their durability-reliability as well as loads of useful torque to get through the most difficult conditions.

It's nice to see the growing market for these simple low power bikes in the UK..
You have companies like Hitchcock motorcycles, TEC parts, and tuning companies like BHP UK that modify these bikes..
The 650cc twins can with a simple remap gets close to 10% more power and is a lot less jerky around town.. Modify the air filter and exhaust, a remap can give you 20% more power on the back wheel.. But with a 20% increase in power you probably want a slight upgrade on the suspension.
The 350cc singles also could do with a 20% power boost. So a boost from 20.2 to 24 bhp would be nice..

I just turned 65 and it's time to cut back a bit. I rode a kz 650 and Shadow 750 and wanted something fun and easy. The Meteor 350 does all that in style and performance. I do wish it had a sixth gear, it wants to go 70 plus but hits the wall around sixty. I'm easy on equipment so I don't push it too hard. If you want something fun and easy for a couple hours on a Saturday or a short cruise after work you won't be disappointed.

after 10 or so years of only ever riding sport/sport touring bikes I was randomly offered a go on one of these, I can honestly say I didn't really miss the extra 60+hp or 3 cylinders it's just a nice relaxing easy ride you won't really want to go fast. I would like some better suspension, going over cobbles was an unpleasant experience also I could see this being better in a 650 parallel twin for pillion/motorway comfort but what really blew me away is it's so quiet and still has that nice bassy exhaust note.
all in all great bike especially for beginners or people who like me are trying out cruisers for the first time...supposedly you can also get 600km out of a 15L tank which is pretty crazy it's gonna be great in the city.

Ya any bike can be fun, but the rider should understand it. I don't expect a review like this, you are so great. He is saying it from heart. For those who can't understand it, a test ride will learn you.

Back in 1980 I purchased a used BMW R60/5; that's a 600cc bike with 4 speed trans and it had compression reduced for dropping octane ratings on fuel available at that time. It had maybe 40hp? I loved that bike and I rode it everywhere, it was my primary transportation. You don't need high hp to enjoy riding.

"MAKE IT YOUR'S BOOKING"... All the variants can be customized and it has lots of more good color options too for all variants.. If it's not available in UK/USA, ask the dealers to book the customised one you saw/like in website... Lots of riders don't know about this..

Toe-heel shifter: Indian roads are not clean like in Europe or US. Potholes with mud, soil/sand on road and unpaved roads. A dirty shoe sole makes gear shifter dirty as well. Hence, no heel shifter means dirtier left leg shoes especially NO white clean sneakers.

plus point is chasis and engine are both designed in UK. talking about reliability they are competing with japanese brands in India and manage to beat them all.
its a reliable bike because most people in India take RE to the Himalayas (thats why RE launched himalayan bike bec they are so popular there) which itself speak reliability bec nobody wants a bike to be dead in a cold mountain desert.

I'd certainly have one of these in the garage but not quite sure I'm ready for it to be the only bike. If you compare it to a 125 it costs little more, has 30% more power and about twice the torque. As a bike to commute on or potter about on sunny Sundays i can see it getting quite a following and not just as a 'beginner's bike' the oft over used term for anything with less than 1000cc or 200BHP.
