The system that nobody wanted when it came out but now everybody in the retro/modding community wants.
Guys, definitively, this is what you want to buy in 2023, PSVita mod it, any 3ds xl or new xl system, homebrew it, that’s it! No need for any other system in the family’s, don’t waste your money unless you wanna collect
Yes I don’t recommend buying one unless you have cash to burn or want to collect and have one
To be honest, I prefer the way the PSP games look on an actual PSP compared to a vita. Something about the resolution, and screen temperature just looks better to my eyes.
@@ThatSavoieDude that’s just a nitpick for someone who owns Both a vita is still better for majority of people
@@SpeepBlob you're right
I bought one recently.
My reasons:
1. Compact size and slider!
2. CfW mod to play ISO and PS1 games
3. Support for emulators for NES, SNES and Sega
4. Good battery life
5. Cheap price
Wow how much did you get it for? I know I haven’t seen one lower than $140 on eBay
@@theretrouniverse I bought it in the UK so it cost me £65, so about $80 with current exchange rates.
And it comes with 2 year warranty!!
@@CrestlessWave not bad at all! Nice find!
@@theretrouniverse we have a store called CEX here which is equivalent to GameStop of the USA. Really good prices and collection.
How long the battery lasts?
*Fun Fact:* if you close the lid you get a nice clock watchface but if you use press both triggers at the same time you get a calendar and you can use each trigger to scroll through the months!
Also I remember having the Craddle accessory which would keep the PSP Go charged while it outputs to a TV and since the PSP Go had Bluetooth, you could use a DualShock 3 controller to it, it felt like a PS2 in you played that way, Sony did the Switch concept first indeed!
OMG!!! How did I never try doing that?!?! Ha that is a great little find!
@@alvzcizzler Yes they did and tried something like that with the PS TV and Vita but being separate devices didn't work. They were onto something with the PSP Go for sure!
@@theretrouniverse Yeah kinda strange how they didn't implemented that on the PSVita handheld and decided to release it as a little box, probably because they were saving some money to not have a mini HDMI and what not
@@alvzcizzler but sure spent so much on back and front touch and back and front cameras nobody wanted lol
The Go's a gem but I've gotta admit, while its sleek and sexy as hell, I find myself playing psp games mostly on the 3k, unless I'm particularly in a mood to play on tv. As for the cable, theres an aftermarket 3in1 that allows you to output video, connect usb for data and charge. They are rare as hell though.
I agree. I have a select few games on the Go but most of my PSP gaming is done on the 1k or 3k
@@theretrouniverse man I loved my 1k because of the comfortable shape, too bad it died on me one day. I'd love to try one with the screen mod.
@@arc-home4747 yeah even tho the 2K has a better screen and slightly more power I still prefer the comfort of the 1k and the weight of it too
This does make me wonder if you or anyone here knows on Etsy you can get a mod for the PSPGO that uses the memory card slot as an extender to a micro so card that can hide behind the back case. Making the PSP GO have enough memory like a 1000/2000/3000. I bought one and it works damn nice. Just a tight bend.
I do I did end up buying it and have my PSP Go Modded now
You can connect it to wifi. Just turn off wifi security temporarily
Video is awesome. Keep up the good work brother!
Thank you! I appreciate the support!!
Owing the the fact that I can no longer connect my PSP GO to WiFi and the PSP Store shutting, I modded mine, and put my ROMS on it. This made it a ideal handheld to go travelling with as I didn’t have to bring my UMDS, with it.
I understood why they removed the UMD, but never understood why they changed the memory cards from Pro Duo to M2 or why the charging port was changed.
Bad choices from Sony by trying to sell some proprietary memory card. Same with the Vita
But you can still connect to wifi on the GO!
I got the go cause I already modded my psps so having the 16gb of built in storage was great
It was helpful for sure to have that built in already.
forgot this existed, thank you! i remember when i was like 9 and would go over to my second cousin’s house like every weekend bc we would play games if i brought my ps2 and whatever he had on xbox. his older brother had a psp go and would use it all the time to check facebook and message his “girlfriends”. damn, 2009 was a simpler time fr fr
Oh yeah different times!! Great to hear these stories!
I remember my dad buying a psp go, for me because my older Brothers had damaged my original PSP 1000 due to them being dumb, and I really love the PSP Go, I remember playing little big planet and final fantasy on it.
It was a really underrated system and didn't deserve all the hate it got (Mostly from existing psp owners) I still think it's a great system to carry around with in a bag and the battery still lasts a good amount of time
@@theretrouniverse Yep, I don't know how but the batteries are about as comparable to the Nintendo DS. They last like ages.
@@SATALIT3 Yeah I can leave it in sleep mode for like 2 weeks without it losing battery for the most part
I wonder if sharing internet through Bluetooth would work on the PSP Go, not the fastest internet, but with what you would be able to do in the device would be enough
psp go was my favorite fr felt more like a handheld sony should have made it more accessible for newcomers at the time
It was way ahead of its time but honestly existing PSP owners felt burned by it because they couldn’t play their UMD’s. They really should have called it the psp2 and made it more powerful but still able to play all psp games digitally.
It's so beautiful. I remember they brought out a phone somewhat modelled on it
Yup the Xperia Play
Mine is for collection only, what an underated handheld gaming device from (old) Sony.
I had a PSP Go around 2010 that I picked up at GameStop for ~$30. Even with bigger hands it was fairly comfortable and I mostly played GBA games on it honestly. With the PS3 controller support (if you have a PS3 to sync it) and the AV out, it actually can make the easiest way to get PS1 games in 240p on a CRT today. Especially if you have the dock, and when I got my accessories they were dirt cheap. Maybe I should see if I could find my dock if they’ve gone up that much.
Sadly the screen on mine died years ago, and I moved on to using Adrenaline on my modded Vita and a PSP 2000 I got cheap on eBay due to it having a broken UMD drive. I guess the Go spirit lives on in it when I’m rocking PS1 games on my Trinitron.
Wow if you have the dock still that would be amazing
Man if Sony would have done the cartridge and standard sd thing like Nintendoi feel like this would have been around a lot longer
As cool as that would’ve been, it would’ve been looney to have UMD and cartridge PSP games haha.
I have a PSP 1000,2000, &3000. I just bought a PSP go to complete my collection. Thanks for the tips!
Nice I found my PSP 2000 after the video. It's the Darth Vader PSP edition. Wish I had it on me during the video.
@@theretrouniverse Oh nice! I can imagine. That’s a nice collectors piece of the PSP.
@@theretrouniverse My 1000 model’s UMD drive started acting up the other day. It didn’t work but now it does. However, it reads the discs with a slight noise. It’s probably dusty or have some rusty or worn parts. I hope the PSP go will be a good method to keep PSP games for many years to come without the need of UMD drive.
@@eddiebatter CFW your psp and you don't need the UMD anymore and you can use memory pro duo adapters. PSP Go was a terrible device unless you were born rich and money was no objection. I always thought psp go was dumb until you put a CFW.
Your collection isn't completed, you don't have the psp e lol
Ahh the system that nobody ever wanted lol it was a dope system if u have one though
Agreed!
@@theretrouniverse I actually regret selling mine after the fact
@@redcrimson1028 I regret selling my black one. Would have been nice to still have the pair but it happens
Now everyone wants one
@@SataniaMcDowelthats just like the PS Vita now
The PSP Go was definitely ahead of its time, not sony but the people "failed" the console. I had one and regret selling it a couple of years, the prices for them have skyrocketed.
If you are interested in modding its a great small device and especiall now since micro sd cards are fairly cheap you'd have no problem with storage.
However where I live a PSP Vita is only a bit more expensive than a psp go, I'd pick one of those over a psp go, since the screen is slightly better and perhaps emulation might be a bit better, I remember having problems emulating some games on the psp go back then.
Unfortunately Micro SD cards don't fit in the slot. It uses a proprietary memory card called M2 that sony was using for some cameras.
Also it for sure was a head of it's time. The world wasn't ready for all digital consoles. The vita would be the choice to go with however the PSP Go is easier to mod and also much smaller and compact.
@@theretrouniverse Ohh right I remember, I mixed things up. There is an adapter for the psvita cards (but not pspgo), which makes it possible to use micro sd instead of the pspvita only cards. Sony always made those memory cards difficult.
@@Unveiiled Yeah if you hack a vita you can use the adapters for micro sd cards. Sadly it doesn't work unless the device is hacked. Yeah Sony never got the memory card stuff right on any of their handhelds.
It was only kind of shit if your internet was bad, or no interent and you still needed physical. As far as moddding it aged fantastic.
keep going my guy ur content will blow up one day consistency is key
Thank you so much for that! I will work on it and continue to put out stuff. I appreciate your comment!
I just checked the prices on ebay and the go over a hundred dollars for a decent one. That's crazy!
it's a huge bummer but considering not many were sold they are selling at a premium
2024 still absolutely adore psp god i love this handheld although i play on modded vita and play all my psp stuff dere imma psp Fanatic!! PSP&VITA 4L❤🐐
You don't need the dock to use the component cables. Also the older PSPs could also output through component cables
Correct you don’t need the dock to output to a tv but if you want to be able to have it charging while connected to the tv you need the dock
And yes the older psp models (2000 & 3000) can output to tv but you can’t pair a Bluetooth controller to them
@wherediditGO!
I rip my umd videos via my original psp 1000 and PC. Then trough it to memory of GO. And play them on it. Looks amazing 😀
Yesss it’s awesome to have them on the Go
Loved it when I had one but sold it off since it just collected dust at the end. Still have my vita but even now it just sits there. Amazing device that fits in your pocket though.
i regret selling my black psp go but glad I still have the white one.
@@theretrouniverse mine was white as well. Was going to do the memory mod on it but decided to not take it apart. Might pick one up again.
@@AdamAve93 try and get one now before they skyrocket even more!
Forgot to mention, great video mate, keep on working on the content you will for sure get big!
Thank you! That means a lot and heres hoping!!
Owned this one. My first ever portable console owned. Despite all the backlash. It was awesome console, the pause mode was amazing you could play two games in same time. Only xbox series bring back this in 2020...ps one classic, peace walker, monster hunter, god of wars, gran turismos... i miss physical psp era but definitely enjoyed this one. Ps vita wasn't the same Enjoyement
Yes the idea of having everything in the system instead of having to carrying around a bunch of UMDs was amazing but so many people hated it. It was ahead of its time and people just weren’t ready for an all digital system
Great video, such quality for a channel with not too many subs, definitely hitting subscribe. Personally, I got the PSP Phat and a Vita, which I think I would change if I was offered a do-over, being a PSP go and Vita. But the Vita is certainly the better option all-round being more powerful at the same price as a go, sacrificing a bit of portability tho.
Thank you that means a lot that you subscribed I truly appreciate the comments and I should have more stuff out soon!
You can connect the PSP to any modern WiFi as long as you have it without password, that may be an issue but you can limit the number of users of the network or allow only your MAC Address I personally create a WiFi Hotspot from an Android phone limited to 1 connected device for connecting the PSP to the internet, unfortunately I find that is impossible to create WiFis without password on iPhone
yeah even if you can it's pointless as all it's wifi features don't work anymore
when I saw the commercials of the psp go got me excited but after hearing it was all digital I was like nvm
Same for me. I have a large UMD collection and you mean to tell me (at the time) that I have to buy all of my games all over again?? Not happening.
I got a modded one and I love playa both god of wars on it I wanna get the black one doe for my little collection I have but I gotta wait 🙏🙏
White psp* I already have the black one
Loved my fat PSP. But Sony so quickly abandoning it and telling me I needed to buy all my movies and games again really left a bad taste.
Eh. Such is life.
Man, I hate that thing because the screen's too small and blurry--making me dizzy over time. But I can't deny its beauty compared to the other PSPs. And those UMDs are so damn cute to collect! I hate cartridges.
The dock is what makes the system imo. Makes the whole switch-like experience all the more real. Even better if you use it on a CRT for real 240p PS1 play.
The dock is too expensive unless you’re rich. You could just get PSP GO component cables for wayyy cheaper although the dock does make the GO pop even more.
I never bought a PSP Go but I got one from my brother when he upgraded to a Vita.
He put a pretty good selection of games on it, it's just annoying to have no real option to add more in this day and age.
That is awesome that they handed it down to you. Only way to add games to it now is by modding it and then getting games that way I'm afraid
I love the xmb from the psp and use it since 2007❤
I am stalling between buying a psp go or a vita 1000, both seem very interesting devices. The only thing thats really making me not decide is the 1 analog stick the psp has. The psp go meets all the criteria, small, music support and a good library of games. But man the one analog stick seems like its a hurdle.
It's great and portable, but it depends on what games you are looking to play on it. The Vita helps with games like the GTA ones and any first or 3rd person psp shooters, but yeah the compact design is great and even better if you use it for game boy and retro games
@@theretrouniverse Im looking more for first person, open world or something to mess around in with friends but i will have to keep thinking about it. Thanks for the info.
Great video entertaining and informative
Thank you! I appreciate it!
My older cousin gave me my psp go but I always take it to school and play gta stories
the GTA stories games are great!
Awesome vid 😎👍🏽
Thank you very much!
I have mine with charger still and might just mod it ❤
Oh you should if you want to still add games to it :)
same here i have mine but i barely found it again and had it chargers but everything deleted and can't sign in anyone know if so can you help
The arguement of removing the UMD slot in the psp go is reasonable if the sony didn't released the psp 3000 in the same time. 😂😂😂
true
Hmm I have a 120 gb micro sd on my psp go😊
Oh nice so modding it allowed you to get one of those adapters for it?
It is a Xperia Play with different case, PSP OS, better screen
I want a psp go but I found it pointless on account of me not know how to mod .
If you search on TH-cam,you will find lots of tutorials. I bought mine and literally took 20 minutes to mid it.
@@CrestlessWave yes I know but I don't have the confidence to do it myself. I do already own a psp 3000 and 2 ps vitas I've looked into modding before.
As someone that never did any modding before I found it extremely easy to do on the PSP
I’ve just bought a PSP GO for some reason. No chance of getting games on it ?
You will need to mod it with custom firmware in order to get games on it. Check the comments below I linked some guys video that I used. He shows you how to mod it but you do need to look up how to get ISO copies of games for it too
th-cam.com/video/nROljBT2ETM/w-d-xo.html
you may also need a micro sd adapter, the memory stick micro is rare and expensive, i don't know why no one talks about that
@@barabrainrot for expansion yes. It comes with about 14GB out of the 16GB internal memory it says.
@Retro Universe it says not to follow the tutorial for psp Go
slapped on a 3d printed backplate, 5000mAh battery, Best handheld ever.
Oh nice! It's a great little handheld for sure!
It seems like nobody knows that you could still download games straight to your PSP GO. You just need to deactivate your wifi security settings.
is there a video or anything i could watch? just got one a few days ago
@@almontelouieSorry dude, just seeing this now. Were you ever able to figure it out? There’s got to be info explaining how to somewhere haha.
One question. Im not a kid from the era of the psp's so. But the psp go has some games already installed cause I don't have any computer at home. By the way good video
They do not come with preinstalled games or anything. Your best option is the other psp systems that play UMD
@@theretrouniverse thanks man
Good informative video, you need a better mic though
I love this system
psp loves you to bro ❤️
white and black both looks so good but i think the black is a little better
it has that classic look.
white with black buttons looks great as well.
i think it's because the screen bezels are black that makes it look a bit weird.
with the black shell it blends better.
You have a vita?
Yes I have two of them. A White and black. Both OLED models
PSP go is hard to play because it has small buttons but the normal PSP I better a little bit easier to play
Yeah I enjoy looking at the PSP go but for most of my gaming it’s the original model
Planning to buy one while the price isn't on New 2ds levels...
I'm sorry, but I don't think the prices will come down. These are becoming increasingly rare, best you can hope for is getting one with a faulty battery and doing a repair or even battery expansion mod.
@@RetroPlus true.
new games are becoming unfashionable.
emulation devices and older handhelds are becoming trendy, as are older gen consoles now is the time to get them before they become 300+ in price even for bad condition.
luckily you can replace the screens for cheap.
it's the button kits that are expensive.
Why is it surrounded by umd games
Need something in the background lol
@@theretrouniverse cause I was thinking about getting one. Then I typed into google does psp go take umd games and they said no. Then I typed psp go into youtube and seen your video was surrounded by umd games. Man i miss using my psp go..the screen doesn't work anymore🥲
That was the most common thing to go out but it could also just be a loose video cable
i still have mine it turns on just everything deleted and i can't sign in the playstation network why anyone know
you can replace the screen for under 30 bucks.
I own the black model, this is pretty much a collector's item, the other 3 models are better to play games on them.
No doubt. It's not as comfortable to play games on for longer periods of time. The 1k, 2k and 3k are better for it.
