    Love gearwrench ratchets, 84T for daily and 120xp for the tight spaces. Used these before we had snap on coming by and still use my 120 for tight access.Also seem to be very similar to some Matco ratchets

    I haven't used any of my Snap On ratchets since getting an 120XP flex head set a couple years ago, they are by far my favorite ratchet I've used in 35 years. I should try the locking flex heads though.
    Good video, thanks!

      I also prefer the 120xp ratchets, only wish that Gearwrench would make a locking flex head in the 120xp, but they only make it in the 84 tooth.

    Gearwrench are out with 90T now. Hopefully they come out with a 90T locking flex head and these 84T get discounted.

    I have had bad luck with gearwrench torx bit socket sets having crooked bits in the sockets right out the box been 4 months and still can't get a good set from them so I recommend there ratchets and wrenches but not there bit sockets

    The Gearwrench 84 tooth locking flexheads are a Taiwan made copy of the Armstrong made locking flexhead ratchets which are no longer made since Armstrong was closed more than a few years ago. Although you can lock & unlock the Gearwrench version from both sides, I feel the Armstrong versions are stronger and tighter.

      We had an armstrong full 1/2"dr set at the steel plant i worked at, was great set, have not been happy myself with some of apex's buy outs and closing down some us mfr's (allen usa, armstrong, etc) as they were indeed great tools. Thanks for watching!

    I got the the set of 4 flex head none locking .Like the detent better for only 99 what a deal. Would never have tried them if snap on had taken 2 months to repair my broken flex head. They look and work just Matco ones other mechanic in my dealership have.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 months??? Damn, i am glad my guy keeps pretty solid stock of repair parts on hand. As for cost on these guys would say that is os a bang for buck type of deal. As for the matco ones, well ha ent tried matcos version of these, but do know apex makes matcos ratchets. Thanks for watching bud

    Luckily tekton. Has revamped there mechanism. I really like mine but I do wish they had a locking option since I don't like my 1/2 drives being able to move.

    Probably just me, but I like the Matco/GW locking flex head mechanism better than the SnapOn. I just don't care for the SnapOn lock mechanism.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh i have tapped the button on my snap on ratchets good number of times too, but will say the flush fit on gw's is a win, but snap on's is alot more solid with greater surface area lock on, not so much of a huge difference in say the 1/4" but if it were down to a 26" 1/2" ratchet for workin on semi's would have to keep it with snap on. But will admit both do have plus's and minus's (do wish there was a happy medium but that might make things too easy for competitors lol)

    Good review. NAPA and Carlyle have been my first choice for tools so I can avoid the inconvenience and prices of the tool trucks and ordering tools through the mail. I have the Gearwrench metric and SAE sets of reversible ratcheting wrenches and the 3/8" drive roto-head ratchet. I have had issues with the ratchet mechanism on a couple of the wrenches. But, I'm still giving Gearwrench a chance. Gearwrench does offer some hand tools that Carlyle doesn't have and I can get Gearwrench at NAPA as well.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankyou for great input on your experiences! True well stocked napa stores are convenient, and price tag from them alot cheaper than most tool trucks for sure. Thankyou for watching!

  • @Itsdazeni

    Good video man. Personally I’ve only liked the 1/4 Gearwrench ratchets I feel like their 3/8 & 1/2” feel “cheap” if you will though I have never had one fail on me I just don’t like the action and feel of them other than their 1/4” ratchets

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for input! My older 72t gw ratchets i keep around do come in handy in kit that came with them (need to go back over that one sometime). But as far as the uber hard use, well would have lil bit over reservations on some things too, but that is another vid for another day! Have good weekend

    They look like nice ratchets...not that I need anymore! Too bad about the tekton,I hear some of their tools are made here in the states.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since this vid has come out they did update their ratchet line up, and started making some of their wrenches here in US

  • @Toyotas_n__Tools
    @Toyotas_n__Tools 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review, sometimes all you need is just a slimmer ratchet. I'm glad you like them for what they are, a lot of my points exactly. I think the matco version is almost $200!!

    • @Itsdazeni
      @Itsdazeni 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yota Doug's Tool Collecting Channel matco version is definetly way better though

    • @Toyotas_n__Tools
      @Toyotas_n__Tools 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Davion Martinez man this one is a good little competition I think if you’re gonna spend that type of money that it should be on snappy because I can probably buy a fhx80 and a soft grip Gearwrench 84tooth locker head for under $200 which I still paid considerably less than that, my snap on was $76 in a ebay auction I followed to the end to place a bid, a Gearwrench would be around $50 online. My point being that the Gearwrench can serve the same purpose as the matco and you can still have the snap on.

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Havent had chance to try matco, in end i think it would come down to tool truck rep quality as to vs fact matcos are made by gw. Customer service/warranty is always big thing to consider. Havent had much experience with those 88toothers so cant really personally say. But i DO love my snap on ratchets.

    • @Itsdazeni
      @Itsdazeni 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bearded Seabee82 snap on ratchets are phenomenal. But I don’t think Gearwrench makes matco ratchets their designs are similar but ones USA made and other is tawain

    Do you have a tip for a wrench that combines a lot of teeth with least resistance on the "back stroke" (when it goes click click click)? Sorry, I don't know a lot about tools... :-D

    Any preference between Capri and Gear Wrench overall?

    • @BeardedSeabee82
      @BeardedSeabee82  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i like the surface contact engagement between pawls on the capri. i do like the locking flex head on gear wrench. its kind of a coin toss between strength vs tight spot access. thanks for watching bill, sorry so late to get back on this.

    I have had bad experiences with the capris and the gears stripping out, I have had better luck with a husky over the Capri

      Only time i was able to have the internals on the capris strip out was after taking impacts to them in the will it break vids. Still havent been able to wear their 3/8 out yet so might have to give another go at them.

    I have a USA made one. Love it. Sucks they shipped production overseas to make more profit.
    edit- I'd also measure thickness to include the reverse lever in the future. As its there. So it can be in the way. :-)
