Aurora said three things that I can remember. 1. Björk was her greatest inspiration. 2. Her “soft place to fall” was a reference to her mother’s lap. 3. She said that she doesn’t feel human but rather she feels like a fairy or something more ethereal.
Again, her performance shows how her body wants her to express the song. She performs bare footed and is quite expressive with her body free to direct the song.

I liked the version she performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Awards 2015. I come back to AURORA every few months. Her truth she sings touches my heart. Some days I just need AURORA. She is hauntingly beautiful. When you have time go down the AURORA rabbit hole on TH-cam. It's worth every minute. I really like her video going with her friend and ending with a concert in the forest. It's almost too much so prepare yourself!!

She wrote the main parts of the song at age 11-12, but she has said several times in interviews, that the song made more and more sense to her later in life after she became an artist, when she went into the world touring at age 18 and missing her home.
She has also said that the parts about "seeing a face in the sand" and "painting a picture of you" is about grieving over someone you lost, seeing their face everywhere and later trying to recreate it yourself. She lost a godfather at age 11 around when she wrote the song, so it might be about him. Maybe she did run away from home back then in grief, but she has never said anything about it.

    Its filmed in Norway.
Its a nice area, however; the reason it is picked is that its her home area just south of Norway second largest City Bergen.
The forrest scenes are were she played as a kid, and the fjord scene is litterally shot in her parents house backyard.
The fjord/sea in the background, although a nice one is not really among the spectacular fjords, but is rather a 'friendly neigborhood fjord' that pretty much any Norwegian lives by or have nearby.😅

Not only filmed in Norway. It filmed where she grew up. Basically her back yard Aurora spent countless hours in the forest overlooking the island and fjord you see in the video. No she did not have to leave home. She did not want to leave. Her mother told her the world deserved to hear her music. She basically went kicking and screaming as she did not want to be a singer. It took her a year or two after signing with a company to basically tell them to get lost, or as she stated, "what's the point if I cannot do what I want". Aurora does it her way.
You should watch the HAIK documentary to gain an understanding of this incredible human being. I also echo, Aurora is my second favorite, next to Angelina.

Thanks for the great reaction. I'm looking forward to seeing your next reaction to her!
I think this song is about sorrow and how we tend to run away from it rather than face it. When she was little, she always wondered why people say “I’m fine” when they aren’t. Aurora is a keen observer of all things about humans. It is good to remember that her songs "almost never" (according to her) about herself.
There is a video she explains about this song (you can enjoy her beautiful a cappella, too!) on Genius.

Yes! She played the voice that calls to Elsa throughout the movie. She doesn’t sing any words, but she has a prevalent part in the song Into the Unknown, and she actually released her own solo version of the song, which I may even like more than the original. Not necessary for a reaction I would say since she has far more impactful songs that she’s written and composed herself. But it’s worth a listen if you ever want to play it on your own time. It’s hauntingly beautiful.

Great Reaction! If I had to give you a brief synopsis of Aurora in bullet points it would be: - Self taught, - Writes her own music, - Produces and /or co-produces her music, - Loves the planet and nature, - Amazing live, - Gets extremely lost in her live performances- Wonderful dancer, - Huge advocate for being yourself, - Her covers of other artist are almost always better than the original. I could probably list so much more but one should discover Aurora in their own way. For a good example of her singing skills, I recommend, Through the Eyes of a Child. Live at Nidarosdomen. She demonstrates some effortless head chest flips, dramatic pauses, great range and some of the best vocalizing I've ever heard.

Your speculations about the lyrics are a little off, but you couldn't guess that she wrote this song when she was 11. To sum it up perhaps it's about having lost, feeling lost, wanting to be lost and finding yourself. She says this was a song from little Aurora to older Aurora and she has herself found more meaning in it through the years. Aurora is best live , especially studio performances or great events. She seems to feed off nerves and performs better under tension. Music videos may be interesting in and of themselves, but the epic performances are the live ones, except maybe "Exist for love" which was made from a demo and matches many live versions.

    @Geralt26 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Very good reaction. I also like you try to interpret lyrics which is not easy with Aurora especially at first listens :). Also she has lyrics open for interpretation and that is why she has very specific her meaning but also she gives room for your interpretation as lyrics are more universal and often poetic.
She even said meaning for this song even for her changed in bit with time as this song fits also for older Aurora "It was a gift from younger Aurora to older Aurora" :). Her original meaning was about grief and different phases of grief. First verses are about fresh grief and next one about grief in a little different phase. It means she "runaway" from the word because of grief. But as life go on you (without you) can not just be in such state forever and you need to return to world and just come to terms with yourself and your loss. That is why you need to find a soft place to fall to repair (menially) yourself. It can be home, it can be arms of your mother it, someone close etc.
BTW: She wrote this song when was 11. And she watched ocean outside window etc. She made interesting video about meaning for example for Genius.

Aurora performs my personal favorite version of this song at the same Nobel Peace Prize concert in which she sang (5,4,3,2,1) Murder Song. Another favorite live version is her concert on the Honda Stage. Aurora has many stunning videos which are all worth watching, but her live performances are overall her best loved. This includes several live studio versions. I think the key is her ability to emote realtime in a way that communicates her heart-on-her-sleeve directly into the listener's soul.
You may want to enjoy a live version of Runaway (my favorite again: th-cam.com/video/Fc7XWW_Ehb8/w-d-xo.html) for your own enjoyment. As far as excellent music videos go, I'd say Apple Seed, Cure for Me, Giving in to the Love, Running with the Wolves, I Went Too Far, Under the Water, The River, and others, but that's a good list. But check out the live versions that people recommend. They're often mesmerizing.
Check out Through the Eyes of a Child, live at Nidarosdomen. It is a wonderful performance, and well worth a reaction to. th-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/w-d-xo.html

Some facts about the Runaway Music Video:
It was shot (as far as we know) during January 31 to February 2, 2015. She was 18 at this time. She wrote Runaway at the age of 11-12 and finalized it at the age of 14 (for a school project, as she mentioned in an interview).
The parts, where she wears the 'furry' top (it's actually sheep wool) are shot at the west coast of the Drange peninsula, less than a mile away from her parents house.
The parts in the forest were shot in the same forest where she played as a kid very close to her parents house.
The parts, in which she wears a thin white cardigan and with some trees in the near background and the island of Lysøya in the background, are shot actually in the backyard of her parents house in Drange.

Great reaction, Nick! Aurora is most of the time best experienced live, but her MVs are also very good. My fascination for her goes way beyond her vocals alone, albeit she has an utterly beautiful voice. It's just something about her whole being, such an through and through honest and natural human being. And her lyrics are insanely good. They ALWAYS make you think and reflect, and they never give you an answer or a lead on how to interpret them. I just love that, and it takes an insane level of talent and flat out intelligence to do. That being said, Aurora is a highly intelligent person, at least flirting with the autism spectrum (as per her own description of herself in the HAIK! documentary 🙂 ) A few of my absolute favorite songs by her were written when she was VERY young, for instance her song "Lucky", which was written for the most part when she was 9 years old.) Also THIS song, Runaway, was written around that time if I'm not mistaken. Her mannerisms on stage is something to behold for sure. It MAY take some time getting used to, but it is just SO incredibly authentic. I just love her to bits 🙂 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

I soo like Aurora (and Angelina .. and Nightwish … and Epica 🤣).
Aurora is amazing and I strongly stand behind suggestions for ”it happenings quite” and “the seed “
When it comes to metal I do have two suggestions that is linked to both Nightwish and Epica ( .. soooo yheea also from the north (Sweden)😀)
The first one is Sabaton .. the “bards of metal”when it comes to historic events. Telling the story of the soldiers of war without taking sides ( they have their own history channel with real historians to go thru the historical events they sing about )
they where even awarded “Englighter of the Year Award 2022” by The Swedish Skeptics Association (Vetenskap och Folkbildning), making them the first rock band to receive it .. actually teachers around the world are using there music to teach young people about history🔥🤘.. ohh and they kick ass 😝 . The best way to describe them is EPIC!
Connection: Sabaton toured with Epica in North America in late 2022
.. and the drummer in Sabaton is married to Floor Jansen in Nightwish .
    Suggestions:
    The last stand (live)
    To hell and back (live)
    No bullets fly (animated version)
    Night witches (long animated version)
    Primo Victoria (music video)
    Bismarck (Music Video)
The second one is for Tommy Johansson
Power metal dude. A singer, songwriter/composer and multi instrumentalist (guitar, keyboard, bass and drums)
He is one of two lead guitarists in Sabaton and has his own band Majestica/Reinxeed where he is the singer, songwriter/composer and guitarist. He also has his own YT channel( one video every Friday .. even when touring with Sabaton) where he does covers of songs he like ( creative outlet, something to relax with ( his own words))
    Word to describe him: TALENTED
    Connections:
The same as for Sabaton .. and he has done the music for Floor Jansens covers of “Frozen 2” and “Oblivion”
    Suggestions:
Re recording of Tommy’s own original with reinxeed(2008) : The light 20 years celebration
.. and (since I saw that you reacted to a lot of Taylor Swift)
    Cover of Taylor Swift: Antihero
.. but just check the channel for something that speaks to you,Elton Johns I’m still standing, Green Day’s basket Case, Celin Dions Power of Love and 500 miles are all there along with Covers of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Gary Moore and AC/DC
.. just a matter of what rocks your boat 😉

I LOVED this video, please please keep reacting to her...
I would say for MVs... There are some that you NEED to watch:
    1) The seed
    2) The River
    3) Apple Tree
    5) Running with the Wolves
    6) Queendom
    7) Winter Bird
    8) Giving into the Love
    9) Daydreamer
    10) Exist for Love
    11) Cure For Me
Everything else I would say watch live performances but I will be honest, if I were you, I would watch both things, maybe even in the same video you can watch the video followed by a live performance of it.
    My recommendations for live performances:
    1) Nidarosdomen (To this day I believe the best and most liked show from her. If you don't watch the full thing at least these ones are some from that concert that are a must:
    A) Lucky
    B) Through the eyes of a child
    C) It happened quiet
    2) HAIK (Full Concert, you can actually watch the full documentary if you feel like it, you will learn a lot about her there).
    3) I went too far - LIVE at Honda Stage
    4) It Happened Quiet - At the Current
    5) Churchyard - LIVE at KEXP / Or at The Current
    6) Animal - LIVE at The Current
    7) All is soft Inside - LIVE at KEXP
    Others:
    Warrior
    Soft Universe
    Potion for Love
    Forgotten Love
    Conqueror

Great reaction to the best original artist (IMO) out there, she is unique, writes her own incredible lyrics and music, dances (lessons for 10 years approx), best vocals (no formal training) self taught musician for more than one instrument, lives her music which creates the best story telling of anyone. She also has a very unique and wonderful personality, she is a champion for those who feel alone and different, she is about self love and acceptance of who you are, we all have a place in her Queendom (title of her song about what I just said about her). We are her Warriors and Weirdos and and our anthem is the song Warrior. That Frozen 2 reference can be explored by finding Aurora's version of the movie track Into The Unknown, her version is far superior to the movie, her vocals for it are Divine.
Although she prefers to sing in English as Aurora says that her native language makes her feel Vulnerable her voice rises to the Beauty of Unlikely, in Norwegian Aurora is Sirenic.
    Stjernestov is a Perfect Example.
