I met Vince for the first time in 1991. He was clean shaven, short hair, and singing Country Music. Heck of a nice guy.

I got to see this incarnation of the replacement musicians of Pure Prairie League Band . It certainly was a turn around of musical style for the band they needed it to stay up to date with the times compared to the Lowell George , Craig Fuller era . Vince Gill did his job well . BTW it was in the late 1980's .

Before Vince Gill became a VERY successful country star in his own right, he handled lead vocals on this 1980 Pure Prairie League classic.
Dark clouds are blowin' in the wind
    He's crossin' your mind again
You got that sad, sad feelin'
    From a broken heart
And feelin' so close to the end
    Let me love you tonight
There's a million stars in the sky
    Let me love you tonight
    I'll make everything all right
When you find out how good love can be
You're so lost when it sets you free
They say once in your life
    You find someone that's right
Someone who loves you like me
    Let me love you tonight
There's a million stars in the sky
    Let me love you tonight
    I'll make everything all right
    When the moon has forgotten
    What the night's about
And the stars can't work their places out
    Hold me tighter than tight
    When the daylight comes
    It'll be all right
    (Sax solo)
    Let me love you tonight
There's a million stars in the sky
    Let me love you tonight
    I'll make everything all right
    Let me love you tonight
    Let me love you tonight
    Let me love you tonight
    Let me love you tonight.................................

A bunch of people are responding to you saying this isn't country. That's absolutely wrong. This is country soft rock. Definitely country. The Eagles, Pure Prairie League, and Poco all are. People love country without even realizing it - they just don't like the stereotypes and exaggerated accents, which is totally understandable.

How can you not smile seeing the intro and then Vince begin singing? One of the all-time love songs. For a bunch of white guys, this song has so much soul to it, it's amazing. Teddy Pendergrass would be proud of the PPL. For any of you that are surprised that Vince was in PPL, the story of his joining the band goes like this: Vince was a young friend of someone who was going to audition for PPL. The group wasn't impressed by the guy they were auditioning, but Vince got the gig based on his supreme guitar work. PPL: too country for rock, too rock for country. Our loss. And also that Craig Lee Fuller basically had to flee the country b/c his CO wasn't accepted.

This song is a tad country, which I hate country, but there's that 80's twist in it that makes it a timeless hit for me!

I was thinking the same thing. They could really do a great version accompanied with those classic Eagles harmonies.

@@thomasrose9592 Instantly recognizable no doubt! It matched Sanborn's solo in James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You". Same tone, articulation, and his signature wail!
