The only artist who I have adored consistently since I was, ohhh, much younger than I am now. Always provocative. Always interesting. Always gorgeous. Always Tori.
Tori always goes to her 'place' when she performs, whether it be live or a studio recording. She casts a different persona if not becomes a whole new character sometimes. That's why we (well, I) love her!
Fascinating! Reinventing, new angle to the song that's all the art of covering...a real lesson for all those tribute bands that plays the songs excatly the same as the original (no interest) She is truly gifted
wow - i remember when Ears With Feet were some of the most amazing, kindest and most generous group of people around. I was in a wheelchair at a show in 1996 (in OKC, i made her a mask, hey to anyone who remembers :)) and a stranger took off her coat and gave it to me to wear for the day, someone offered to find me some food as we waited in the M&G line. I wish that still existed, and it CAN if you focus on the music and what we have in common. Thanks!
Tori has covered this song at least 33 times, the latest of this post was on 4/3/2023 at Royal Albert Hall and it was beautiful. I think that she said Michael Stipe was there, they are close friends still.
While ithat is true, it is possible it might cause a rift in space-time or causing the universe to implode if ever Tori Amos and Kate Bush sang together, or even if they were just in the same place at the same time.
I'm so sick of people comparing the two. Tori is so much better than anyone else, I think her with anyone would be a letdown bc she would have to be brought down to anyone else's level bc there's not a person alive who is even remotely near the level tori is. Not even kate bush (but I also don't like her music)
I loved VH-1 in the old days. It was great seeing such great performances like this all the time... until “reality Tv” Programming ruined the both VH-1 and MTV.
Yes!! I was just talking about her covers on another song. This skill she has of just owning the songs and making them something new while still staying true enough to the original that we know what the heck it is (hehe) is incredible.
The way she does this is just brilliant. The way she presents the lyrics makes me think of the the devil mocking someone whose faith has been mortally wounded.
she does wonders with covering songs, she can turn them into something completely different, if not really exaggerate, (in a good way) an emotion or lyric
Tory Amos is just fantastic, I don't know how you interpreted my post negatively! Tory has "winter" , Kate has "cloud busting". These artists Kate and Tory are fantastic. My most favorite female artists. Don't try to "read in" to my comment. I LOVE THEM BOTH, covers or originals.
that's a commendable comment, i wish more people would have such a broad perspective. Still liking it is another thing, there are many in fact that hate..that's just taste. She's great in every way
I always thought she kicked but with this cover. When I heard her recording of this song on the Higher Learning soundtrack, I never wanted to hear REMs original anymore.
I wouldn't say that its better than the original, but the musical interpretation is beautiful by any standard. I don't like when she goes off on tangents of nonsense speak in my opinion it is distracting and takes away from the beauty and the flow of the song. Is it true that the original is about a straight man that Michael Stipe was in love with....just something I read somewhere....any thoughts?
@W4SG1J Your comment made me facepalm, because I can't see where you are getting "happy feelings" from the original song. It's certainly more up-tempo, but that's a different matter. And yes, I guess we indeed do have different types of music taste. I'm not big into covers in general tbh. but I feel like Tori has done some very excellent covers, because her interpretations are unique. I dislike covers, which are dull or could've been done by any similar band. And I do like metal.
+AkelasanAK That doesn't necessarily mean that the ones who don't get her are wrong. Maybe the ones who think they do are. This is just rambling of random lines that happen to be from the same song in no coherent order. If one wasn't familiar with the original, it would make absolutely no sense, and it barely does even if you are familiar with it.
@MuikuliWander sorry but i totally agree with Gallooch25 ..she can have an huge talent and be very beautiful but this song needs more happy feelings, u know, like on original:D
I love Tori! Like, a whole lot. But I've always wished her vocals on this version of the song were better. I love the piano bit she has, but her interpretation of the vocals is not my favorite. :-( Too bad. I love her though, in general. Pretty much if my soul would write songs, it would just re-write the ones she's already written.
@MuikuliWander nah i dont she does;D but ok.. its ur opinion:) i do like her voice but this is so ''savourless''..but we have different type taste of music..im more the guy who likes the metal version of a random pop song and u the soft one i guess:)
I love Tori with my heart and soul, but I don't like this cover. But It's a new vision of a very famous song ...and sincere and visceral. You gotta love her for that.
@MrXevier I KNOW!! :) I also had my "Tori-Amos-Period" in the 90's.....still think she is one of the best female artists ever but she can also be so annoying if your not in that period/mood.....
Look I'm standing naked before you Don't you want more than my sex I can scream as loud as your last one But I can't claim innocence Tori Amos - Leather
At times when she doesn't remember lyrics she acknowledges it, laughs and apologizes... But sometimes she makes up her own to put her own twist to it. Who knows 😄 it's still good IMO.
I disagree. You should try to play an instrument, like a guitar, with Tori Amos covers. "Father Figure" was ridiculously, radically, changed. But I still really like the way she did it. This song is just "over the top". If you want to change a song so much, why not just write your own song? Tori is feeding off of us that know these songs so well by the original artists. If she presented these covers without our awareness of the cover, they would simply be a flop.
She plays the piano so effortlessly yet sooo unique while singing at the same time. She's on another level.
I adore Tori's interpretation of this song. She made it sound as if it was her own. So dark and disturbing. Beautiful.
The only artist who I have adored consistently since I was, ohhh, much younger than I am now.
Always provocative. Always interesting. Always gorgeous. Always Tori.
Tori's pianist skills are remarkable!
Love Tori's covers...so emotional and powerful whilst being soft
This is exactly what a good cover song should be, an impassioned interpretation that brings something new to a well known piece.
Tori always goes to her 'place' when she performs, whether it be live or a studio recording. She casts a different persona if not becomes a whole new character sometimes. That's why we (well, I) love her!
as always, thanks for posting these wonderful gems! :)

Best female artist of the last 30 years.
Tori has covered this song at least 33 times, the latest of this post was on 4/3/2023 at Royal Albert Hall and it was beautiful. I think that she said Michael Stipe was there, they are close friends still.
amazing song sound track high learning love the movie and sound track
I've always loooved this cover. She does great covers!
I can't get the image of Tori and Kate Bush together out of my head. What a show that would be!

Un admirador nuevo y sorprendido fan de los buenos y mejores interprete......y en este caso...mucho màs !!!
I loved VH-1 in the old days. It was great seeing such great performances like this all the time... until “reality Tv” Programming ruined the both VH-1 and MTV.
a mixture of tragedy, innocence and sensuality.
...art 1on1.
I'm so in love with this cover
Best Cover-Version I´ve ever heard ~ thanks for upload ;o)
Just beautiful. Easily the best song on the Higher Learning soundtrack.
I love listening to these covers :)

t.a. music getting me through my terrible shit
she does wonders with covering songs, she can turn them into something completely different, if not really exaggerate, (in a good way) an emotion or lyric
I think “capture” is the word you were looking for. She captures the shit out of emotions!
@IwatchtoomuchTH-cam oh yeah
love everything she does.

She is every type of gorgeous
Not only that, as far as i can tell Tori and Michael Stipe are personal friends.
So this is a homage more than anything.
Fantastic video! Love it. Smoochies.
May 1996. Beautiful performance.
One must acknowledge they great musicianship here even if the cover is not to everyone's taste
that's a commendable comment, i wish more people would have such a broad perspective. Still liking it is another thing, there are many in fact that hate..that's just taste. She's great in every way
I always thought she kicked but with this cover. When I heard her recording of this song on the Higher Learning soundtrack, I never wanted to hear REMs original anymore.
pure musical talent to make it her own
this woman is incredible
i don't love it. but she took it and made it her own and thats what makes it awesome in its own way. . definate thumbs up
She made it a completely different song. That's the sign of a good cover. (And I love REM).
Me loosing my religion 💜☀️🦋
@Gallooch25 yeah, it's not great that's for sure. There is a quite a nice cover by Nina Persson though.
This is called music at its best..
Did she peform this song on her own or for the movie " Higher Learning " .
Awesome
I really love her stuff, but does she ever do at least one version of this song where she finishes her sentences and pronounces her words properly?
Is there any better quality recordings?
I did not understand that movie it might as well of been done in a different language
🌎🌊🌲🔥🌪 ❤️
@W4SG1J That's terribad. Yes, I had to make up a new adjective to describe how bad it was.
I wouldn't say that its better than the original, but the musical interpretation is beautiful by any standard. Looks like 96 to me. Especially cause of the Caught a Lite Sneeze backround. And she sung this song most in 96.
Sounded nothing like the original, for a good couple of minutes I was wondering if it's really the cover for the Classic.
😮 😮 😮 😮 😮
she´s so beautiful
@W4SG1J Your comment made me facepalm, because I can't see where you are getting "happy feelings" from the original song. It's certainly more up-tempo, but that's a different matter. Tori Amos is not popcorn for everyone ....
Nice interpretation IMO ...

@angievigilante
She didn't date Trent. Or rather, it was never confirmed that she dated Trent. Wish they could've gotten together, though :)
@MuikuliWander sorry but i totally agree with Gallooch25 ..she can have an huge talent and be very beautiful but this song needs more happy feelings, u know, like on original:D
Tori is so based
Was she dating Trent at this time? I wonder who "soldier boy' is?
@sickofwaitingtables I could've sworn!!!! I remember her mentioning something about his tongue, lol ;P
@TarAncalyme She was.
:-O Holy god!!
I love Tori! Like, a whole lot. But I've always wished her vocals on this version of the song were better. I love the piano bit she has, but her interpretation of the vocals is not my favorite. :-( Too bad.
I love her though, in general. Pretty much if my soul would write songs, it would just re-write the ones she's already written.
fantastic....there's something of Kate Bush in this which is no bad thing
Tori Amos is the intersection of artisty and insanity. Sometimes her crazy sounds like art, and sometimes her music just comes off as lunacy.
@MuikuliWander nah i dont she does;D but ok.. its ur opinion:) i do like her voice but this is so ''savourless''..but we have different type taste of music..im more the guy who likes the metal version of a random pop song and u the soft one i guess:)
She kinda looks like a young Meryl Streep. :) LOVE HER.
Hootie and the Blowfish do an amazing cover of Losing My Religion as well, it's awesome.
assassination to REM's music
I love Tori with my heart and soul, but I don't like this cover.
But It's a new vision of a very famous song ...and sincere and visceral.
You gotta love her for that.
@MuikuliWander unique indeed..check this video btw where that song happens too..thats why i love it:D /watch?v=al7ugkGbMFk
@Gallooch25 Fail opinion is fail.
I wish I was her piano bench
wow. thank you. i get it now. i have to eat macaroni and anounce myself as miss hooka bitch : ) i need new chocalt candles so i can be happy.
@MrXevier I KNOW!! :) I also had my "Tori-Amos-Period" in the 90's.....still think she is one of the best female artists ever but she can also be so annoying if your not in that period/mood.....
Macaroni is really good though.
Luv and Peace,
:-)))
I’ve lost mine.
wth? What did she do to this song? omg
Look I'm standing naked before you
Don't you want more than my sex
I can scream as loud as your last one
But I can't claim innocence
Tori Amos - Leather
Sounds like she doesn't know the lyrics. :V
At times when she doesn't remember lyrics she acknowledges it, laughs and apologizes... But sometimes she makes up her own to put her own twist to it. Who knows 😄 it's still good IMO.
Front popularity root psychologist remember course liberty extraordinary net writer
What?
You just like him because your first name is in his last name.
definiely 1996
I would turn straight for Tori.
@temistoclebanana Caught a lite sneeze
@W4SG1J Happy feelings? Like on original? You also fail.
Ti commenti da solo.
@temistoclebanana Caught a Lite Sneeze
Hasta las huevas!!!

anytime.....at least I m not you.
why does she put on a fake pronunciation thing when she sings, its very affected
*people (hehe)
idk lol heroin?
: )
La tua frase è un esempio di uno che non ha assolutamente idea di chi sia Tori Amos. Tutto, fuorché "raccomandata". Informati un minimo.
not a fan really
not listenable ...I like others she does not this one
She's very talented, of that no one should deny. Having said that I don't like this, it's just not up to her par.
Nope
crap
