The thing about Bollywood, before 2000, it was all about commercial actors. That's why actors like Naseeruddin, Nawaz, Manoj and Irrfan, they all got the recognition they deserve very late in their career.

Some of the most incredible works been done at that time which didnt have an audience at that time. Also Amitabh Bacchan Sir is a great actor but he was doing strictly commercial and at times average cinema. Bacchan sir's potential as an actor has been explored better by directors in later years.
