Gordon Lightfoot was (and still is) my biggest musical influence. I heard his first album recorded in 1966, way back in 1970 through headphones plugged into an expensive stereo system. "Steel Rail Blues", a ballad, hooked me right then and there ! No wonder Bob Dylan's producer, Albert Grossman also became Lightfoot's producer. I guess what's confusing to me is the assertion that because Lightfoot's heirs will not benefit from future commercial royalties it automatically means they are losing a large share of money. What the narrator doesn't say (at least I don't believe I heard it) is the amount Lightfoot sold the catalog for. Recently artists like Dylan and Springsteen have sold their catalogs for hundreds of millions of dollars. Now, maybe Lightfoot's is not quite in that range, but I'm sure it went for a pretty penny indeed. So, wouldn't it be correct to assume his heirs will profit handsomely from the sale of his music rights? It's the old one in the hand is worth two in the bush, so I'm not really sure the premise of this video is all that correct.

It's gotten to the point in the World where those who read, make a TH-cam video explaining what they read, and do not have to say the source, so everyone thinks you got it from the family., How sad.
The headline on this seems misleading. The video concludes by saying some of the royalties might be lost to the children, but I didn't hear anything that suggested they won't inherit from him.
How long till we hear Gordo’s beautiful music selling pantyhose, chewing gum & all-season radials? It was done with the Beatles’ tunes - remember Adidas selling running shoes with Revolution? Isn’t it a pity?
Why did no attorneys work out his childrens right per his will WHOSE THE GREEDY PERSONS INVOLVED IN SELLING THE RIGHTS WITHOUT THE CHILDERENS CONSENTS..JUST REMARKABLE...
One of the greatest musical legends of all time. But I was always disappointed...no, disgusted...that he succumbed to his daughters whining to change a lyric in If You Could Read My Mind. He already took the blame for his own part of the marriage break up in the song and only gave his ex one single line of responsibility but his daughter had the audacity to attempt to take that away. Those lyrics were HIS feelings on the matter, no one elses. I wouldn't have done it if I were him. I'll never listen to the changed lyrics. Original only.
Total jerk move. 6 kids & you sell it all away? Gordon, sadly you’re dead, you can’t take it with you. Oh, cheap shot or not I’m a huge fan & love your work
Is the sale of the catalog accurate? It is known that ICM Crescendo Music Royalty Fund (ICM CMRF) acquired manager Albert Grossman's “commission rights.”
Completely misleading title. Song rights were likely sold for millions and to simplify lightfoots estate settlement. Presuming his children are the main beneficiaries they will get millions without the wrangling over what to do with the rights. This videos title should be corrected…
😢🤔 So you say in the video title, that his children 🧒 will not inherit his millions. Maybe so, but the greedy evil 😈 Tax-man will !. Death duties are 74%.in my country. The Tax_Man will be laughing 😂 all the way to the bank 🏦.

I love Gordon Lightfoot and his music but he better not disappoint like many other famous and leave his kids little .The worst was that prick Jerry Lewis left his kids nothing.Time will tell Gordon did seem very bitter kids are always a good whipping board .
If you don't want to listen to a whole lot of unnecessary commentary .. just skip to the 7 minute mark to get to what the video is supposed to be about.
Kind of misleading title. They only won't receive royalties from his music. He had a net worth of around 40 million dollars. I'm sure they will receive some of that.

ICM bought commission rights only.
Looking like Willam Defoe in the thumbnail
Why did no attorneys work out his childrens right per his will WHOSE THE GREEDY PERSONS INVOLVED IN SELLING THE RIGHTS WITHOUT THE CHILDERENS CONSENTS..JUST REMARKABLE...
ICM bought commission rights only. Google search it..
What a terrible video. Starting with the title. It is a shameful manipulation of the facts. This should be removed from you tube it is that bad.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Gordon. Which of his songs appealed to you the most?
Totally agree..his song in his words
Favourite song is Cotton Jenny, second is Alberta Bound
Our favorites too, you've got taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
is it anyone's business what happens to his money?
Total jerk move. 6 kids & you sell it all away? Gordon, sadly you’re dead, you can’t take it with you. Oh, cheap shot or not I’m a huge fan & love your work
Commission rights were sold. Google has details..ICM bought them.
Is the sale of the catalog accurate? It is known that ICM Crescendo Music Royalty Fund (ICM CMRF) acquired manager Albert Grossman's “commission rights.”
This video is a joke. You are correct about ICM. At 5 minutes in it seems I am his 2nd wife…lol..we were friends …
How about Telly Savalas singing Lightfoot's The Last Time I Saw Your Face.
Completely misleading title. Song rights were likely sold for millions and to simplify lightfoots estate settlement. Presuming his children are the main beneficiaries they will get millions without the wrangling over what to do with the rights.
This videos title should be corrected…
Commission rights only..not the song catalogue. ICM bought them.

Focus on the artistry...net worth at death so what
The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald”.
My favorite Gordon song is I will Tag along.
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! Which song comes in at second place?
😢🤔 So you say in the video title, that his children 🧒 will not inherit his millions. Maybe so, but the greedy evil 😈 Tax-man will !. Death duties are 74%.in my country. The Tax_Man will be laughing 😂 all the way to the bank 🏦.
great writer, shadows is good im not supposed to care is good they are all good
Absolutely, we feel the same way! Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
I love Gordon Lightfoot and his music but he better not disappoint like many other famous and leave his kids little .The worst was that prick Jerry Lewis left his kids nothing.Time will tell Gordon did seem very bitter kids are always a good whipping board .
ICM bought commission rights only.
If you don't want to listen to a whole lot of unnecessary commentary .. just skip to the 7 minute mark to get to what the video is supposed to be about.
A huge chunk of money was probably paid out for his catalogue though?
Kind of misleading title. They only won't receive royalties from his music. He had a net worth of around 40 million dollars. I'm sure they will receive some of that.
Lightfoot wrote so many great songs.l hope his family works out the situation of the will. It seems the will can spell the death of many families. I am sorry for your loss. ❤❤❤❤😮😮❤❤❤❤😮😮❤❤❤❤😮😮❤❤❤❤😢😢❤❤❤❤😅😅❤❤❤❤😊😊❤❤❤❤😮😮❤❤❤❤😢😢❤❤❤❤❤
Can't stand people who obscess about celebrities' financial status. Total intrusion on what should be private and nobody's business!!
Carefree Highway
Funny how you used a picture of Gord and Bev Lightfoot and his parents claiming they were Fred and Ingrid. Did you really research this 🤔
He was a comedian? And i have never seen someone age as badly..
On a completely different note, look at the TV set & you will see 3 colors. red, green & blue, A.K.A. the primary colors. What they are teaching kids now have yellow, green & blue as the primary colors. Can't read, add or write but they still graduate.
Could you at least let his body get cold before you start with this inheritance crap?
