    Posting in reply to every comment questioning silver plated wire. Silver as you must not know is the highest electrical and thermal conducting metal, as well as optical properties which make it more ideal, for environments were friction, or high temperatures might otherwise create resistors. The other really attractive property is that while aluminum is worse that trying to solder copper, silver is very easy to solder. You will likely find silver al wire in industrial furnace power equipment, amusement rides, some transmission lines in high wind, or places where the temperature can change from freezing to warm quickly as this is a killer with aluminum scaffolding.

    Thank you for the info. Exactly what I was looking for. It is so rare to find silver plated wire that I wasn't sure about the ID.
    But yes, the look is sparkling white. Must be silver plated instead of nickel plated.

    I've got a bunch of this silver coated wire, how in the world am I supposed to get the silver out? At 10% of the weight and $340 a pound...... Man, it's gonna be a good month...

    That is something I don't normally see on Iscrap is silver coated wire. I know it is rare to run across. What is current rate for it??

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now we would say the rate is going to be a #2 copper price. The rarity of having a significant amount of it is so scarce that it's not common to have a separate price for it.

    Hi. I have 2 questions. 1, is tinned copper and copper-clad aluminium(cca) cable the same ?
    2, which one is better between tinned copper and pure copper cable ?😄

      No - check out the metals guide on our site: iscrapapp.com/metals/

    Hey how come the wire is coated with with silver and what does it pay

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silver helps the copper conduct better electricity, however, unless you have a large quantity of it, something like 10,000 lbs, most yards will sell it as #2

    Now the question who will buy silver plated wire at a better price than #2?

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too many scrap yard, only if you are looking at thousands (if not more) pounds at a time.

      A refiner would do it like he does for jewelry but my refiner will do the job for a minimum of one Kilo.

    Hi nice video
    How can remove tin coating

    • @iScrapApp
      @iScrapApp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On wire it is almost impossible, but on bus bar you may be able to use a grinder.

    This is good information but still doesn't address my problem. I have a fair amount of insulated wire that is solid not multistrand it's is shiny and don't appear to be tinted or plated when scratched. Some has come out of tv's and have got some out of older computers. I can't seem to find any thing showing examples of this to know how to sort or what to do with it. If it is silver I would strip and process it.

      We suggest checking out the wires we have listed on our site here to help you identify them: iscrapapp.com/blog/determining-types-of-copper-wires/

      @@iScrapApp I have looked and read this information but it just don't fit or show the type of wire I have that's in question. The wires I have question about has no apparent copper content at all. This isn't about copper it's about aluminum versus Nichol versus silver.
