For those of you who don’t understand why this happens:
At the end of the genocide run, chara kinda lets you “reset”, in exchange for your soul
After you reset, when you do pacifist, chara waits for you to make everyone think that you are nice and safe. Then, once you’re comfortable, (since she has full access to your soul), she takes over your body, and then goes on to kill everyone and destroy everything.
Woah WOAH, I NEVER KILLED ANYONE, JUST MADE THEM REMEMBER WHAT THEY DID.

In my mind this is the true ending. You’ve exhausted everything, from saving everyone to killing everyone, but it left a sour taste in your mouth. In a desperate gambit to sleep soundly you reset everything, and play pacifist to the letter. But it won’t matter. Knives still kill people on the surface.

It’s all torn away from a shinning eye, an evil laugh, and overall creepy song with “The End” in red.

I'm doing it right now and I fully regret it even though I finished only a quarter of the genocide run
I've completed it twice (beat Sans) but i always quit and reset before Chara erases the world just so it doesn't end the route and curse the game.

I think the scariest thing is Chara is still in there. Meaning after a Genocide she got what she wanted. She killed off the Monsters in the Underground in another timeline and then was able to reset to another timeline to kill much more, except this time on the surface.
No not at all the case chara is simply reminding the player that they cant escape the consequences for what they have done.
Chara isn’t evil, they’re just influenced by the player, which is why they remain an ally no matter what route you choose. In this case, chara wants to remind the player that what they did will never be forgiven.
@@damlatorun6756 Chara is evil actually, because even if you don't do any genocide runs just do pacifist. Then there are still conversations Frisk had with Asriel (also in his Flowey form) that work as leverage for Chara being evil. Some of them are mentioned here:
Nochocolate Asriel: how his behaviour points to a case of abuse (Okay so i wanted to post an URL here but YT then removes the comment. Because of that I had to change it to the title of the post and the user that created it so it could be easily found by Google search. It's on Tumblr made by the user nochocolate).
While the focus of the post is how Asriel was actually emotionally abused by Chara. There is still something more disturbing mentioned in the conversations Asriel was saying. I'm talking about things said in the 3rd point "Manipulation Tactics":
"Shortly before death, Chara hatched a plan that involved dying and being absorbed by Asriel...
Chara’s goal was pre-meditated murder; Asriel explicitly says that “Chara hated humanity” just prior to mentioning that Chara wanted to use their “full power” against the humans.".
The only thing that stopped it was when it came to realisation of the plan Asriel actually refused to attack humans.
Additionaly something that isn't in that post but was also mentioned by Asriel is that Chara took pleasure in watching others suffer, such as when Chara "laughed" at how they accidentally poisoned Asgore by adding buttercups instead of butter cups when they wanted to bake him a butterscotch cake.
The only thing that changes between Chara from before the game and Chara during genocide run is the fact that Chara didn't want to kill monsters before the game's events, which now seems perfectly fine to them.

I got the game a few years ago, but didn't play it until recently. I never did a genocide run. Couldn't bring myself to do so. I only wanted to help everyone. Saw this in my recommendation and was confused, so I watched it. Yeah... Good thing I never did a genocide run. That's just heartbreaking.
I like to think this was a little nod to the player like
"You may have done the right thing this time, but I still haven't forgotten...."

There’s also Souless Genocide (There’s a difference when Chara speaks to you. If you don’t erase the world, she says,”No? BuT YoU mAdE tHAt DecIsIOn LONg aGO” and you get yer jumpscare.) There is another Souless ending, when you stay with Tori, you get a picture of an X on everyone’s face with Chara, not Frisk.

Cofffe Beans - wait if this game is alive and it will remember everything wouldn't it be possible that it is telling us two stories that someone remembers or there are two planes of existence in the game think about it .Frisk is represented as the pacifist and Chara is the genocidal murder,both have a different story and way in the game,frisk spares and befriends everyone and sets them free at the end and Chara kills everyone and anyone who approaches her/him . Chara's story is different than Frisk's while Frisk was loved and cared for ,Chara was a troubled child she was hated by many monsters because her great-grandparents were the ones who put the barrier to lock the monsters away and she was insane in a way no one could help them ( sorry I know Chara is genderless ) but regardless of the background toriel still took care of her then Chara did the one thing that broke toriel's heart she killed asriel . Frisk on the other hand was orphaned when her parents were killed by a bomb so she ran and fell into the mountain's opening ( etc.) . So the two plane theory is the best choice while Chara is being the sadistic genocidal mofo , Frisk is the peace and love , but in two different worlds 🤔🤓

I literally did 2 pacifist endings just to not end my play thorough on this ending that’s what makes this game so good you care about the characters and your actions don’t go unpunished and you know it’s good when it gets you to think like this and treat the characters like real people so in my opinion this is an amazing game (I mean everyone agrees lol.)

Undertale cannot retain all these memories forever, for *YOU* - *YOU* have the power to play god, you can play with their world as if it were a game.
Undertale however, will never forget the time when knowingly did the wrong thing - just because you could.

It won't ever forget the time you murdered everyone that you were friends with some other day - the time when you realised that you were above all consequences ... except, that isn't exactly correct, is it?

Since it’s initial release (I was probably in like. 4th or 5th grade I don’t remember, 2004 baby here!
But what I do love so much about the game itself is that it teaches about how every action has a consequence, and it’s brilliant how they made sans one of the CHARActers (haha see what I did there?) to be able to remember every action you’ve done, even in past RESETS. So it also teaches that there’s some ppl that will “forgive and forget” while others don’t. Sans is a perfect example for if you go genocide first and then pacifist. It’s like yeah you can change, but at what cost? You’re still the same person as before and it doesn’t change until they see that’s you’re trying. Idk it’s what I got out of being a fan for 8 years.

Before I did a genocide run, I thought to myself, “Huh. Okay, so I’m gonna kill all these characters I’ve grown to love and go through these boss battles I’ve heard so many horror stories about. It’s just a game, sounds like fun!” Later on, after killing Undyne, I was basically hugging myself in the corner, whispering to myself, “it’s just a game... it’s just a game... it’s just a game...” Dangit Toby why you gotta play with my emotions. I felt even worse after Sans. And... the world.
Edit: My second time through though, I was just like, "Okay."
I've killed Sans at least eight times now. For fun. I did another Genocide, I got to Sans, and I didn't save after killing him because he probably has the most fun fight in the game to be honest. So whenever I'm bored, I just pull up Undertale and fight Sans. Still working on a no-hit run though.

You were probably joking but I think you may have been right in a way. In the genocide ending, Chara separated from Frisk's body (or maybe talks to them from inside but it's not clear) & then only actually manages to turn Frisk's body entirely into their own when Toriel leaves a pie next to the bed.
In Deltarune, Toriel mentions that she has to lock her door at night so Kris won't sneak in & eat the pie she baked & then Kris only gets out of bed & starts looking like Chara after Toriel goes to bed, having said she was gonna make pie & keep it in her room until morning.
Maybe the pie has enough sentimental value to trigger a reaction in Kris just like it triggered a reaction in Asgore. I don't know if I remembered all of that right. I haven't played Deltarune recently.
The ending is not easy because you have to do genocide first and then pacifist to get the scary ending

Not necessarily first, just doing a genocide run at any point then doing pacifist. After doing genocide, you can never get the true ending again, unless you completely uninstall the game leaving no save data at all, as this will happen every time.
