**Cancer sucks**
It’s from that damn cigarette hangin out of his mouth. IMO they should be illegal
🙏🕊️🙏
"How the hell is he doing that?" People been asking that question since this man hit the scene haha
He DIDN'T throw a cigarette. He threw the guitar pick.
Sh*t's worth a billion dollars now.
@@miltonmccuistion if it is signed , only the original owner knows it's Eddies.
@@mottorcyle5052 True, makes me wonder where it is now?

Therapist: Where did he touch you?
EVH's guitar: EVERYWHERE!
😝🤣❣️
That's what NoLifeShaq said when he reacted to this one. I almost fell out of my chair. That guitar needs therapy now lol.
😂😂😂
That ain't right, funny as $#1+ but not right🙌😁🙌😂
This should be pinned.
Every time I've watched this legendary performance it always brought a smile to my face. Tonight I have tears while watching it. Rest In Peace, Eddie Van Halen 2020: the worst year ever.
So true. I watch this performance more often than I should admit and Iooooove a good reaction to it!
sadly 2020 had to happen. We had to wake up all those that we could from the mind virus
YES!!!! You finally discovered Eddie Van Halen!!!
Now it's time for Henry Rollins!!
Ch Ad Liar!
@@EpicCoolman1Yes! One day.
@@chad6849 we won't tell him about Buckethead just yet.
Rip Eddie. So fortunate to have seen you play this live
Let us not forget he actually built that guitar himself ‘the Frankenstrater’ because he couldn’t afford the Les Paul with pickups that he wanted (like Clapton had) SO HE MADE IT 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@SD1 SD2 cool😍
I did not know that!!!! ❤️
All the art work was electrical tape !
This is not the Frankenstein. This guitar was made by Kramer
that's not the original frankenstrat, he's playing a kramer in this video.
Best. Smile. Ever. He threw a pick into the audience. That style of playing is called tapping and he was a master 9f it.
Your phone DING at that moment cracked me up!! 🤣
"I don't know if I'm allowed to pause this video"
That's the correct reaction.
Love the way Eddie smiles and acknowledges the crowd every once in a while as if to say, "I did good, didn't I!" Too cute. And Mr. V, you've opened my eyes. My next boyfriend will be a virtuoso guitarist! LOL
He was especially nice when girls flashed him a quick look. He gave my wife a thumbs up at MSG in 84.
Eddie Van Halen was the most original, innovative Rock guitarist since Jimi Hendrix! Jimi changed the instrument forever, and so did Eddie! These were Prophets who brought something new to the genre. I saw Jimi live multiple times, and I know that he would have absolutely loved Eddie Van Halen! They were one of a kind originals. Eddie created new techniques, just as Jimi had. There is no comparing these two. They are both in their own leagues, and they are both Guitar Gods!
Yeah, but the weird thing is, Eddie's favorite guitarist was actually Eric Clapton. Weird, eh? Because, Eddie sounded more like Jimmy Hendrix, if you know what I mean. Especially with the locomotive sort of sound.
Jimi and van halen are the best in my opinion.♥️😂
Jimi scared Eric clapton when he first saw him he was floors by his art.👍nuff said
Don't know if Eddie's playing if not for jimi would be the same.
His whole volume, feedback.
Better composer
Deeper
More soul
Technical EDDIE IS BEST!!!!!
I don't care about that.
Hendrix was here a half a century ago.
Changed music in 3 years.
I don't see them equal.
Eddie created tapping
No one else is as good
I've never heard him not do that in a solo.
Would have liked to see that.
THE MIGHTY Eddie Van Halen wrote the music for TEN PLATINUM ALBUMS IN A ROW !!!! OTHER GUITARISTS BOW DOWN !!
😍
I just found you on TH-cam today. The fact that you reacted to this before Eddie's passing made me love you even more! I'm sorry you went through whatever bvllshit some people put you through. (They don't matter!) Anyone with a heart can *feel* you are the real deal! Thank you, Mr Video, for making 2020 a little brighter! I've smiled more today than I have all year!
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen You changed the sound of guitar and your legacy will last forever. 🎸
Eddie straight "me too'ed" that guitar in front of 18,000 people. My favorite part is when he makes the guitar sound like a possessed cello.
Eddie Van Halen, and his brother, Alex (the drummer) came to America as very young children with his family, leaving The Netherlands in the early-1960s. The Van Halen Brothers' father was a Jazz pianist, clarinetist, and saxophone player. The Van Halen Brothers learned to play the piano while growing up, with the help of a piano teacher from San Pedro, California (they grew up in Pasadena, California), Knowing how to play piano chord progressions was a big influence on Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing. Like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen was constantly practicing how to play the guitar. He also bought two guitars, one Gibson, and one Fender, and took the best electronic features of both, to combine them into the electric guitar that he played, to get the types of sounds that he wanted to perform on record, and in concert. It took him a lot of hard work to build the guitar that he finally wanted.
Fun fact: Eddie is reputed to have been completely wasted during this whole thing.
He looks it.
Show ya right 😅😅😅
That's why he was always smiling 😆
He definitely had problems with alcohol and cigarettes. But him mostly sober is even better. th-cam.com/video/WtYkEKKbHQU/w-d-xo.html
tore-up Eddie vs. Sober Eddie...
Sober Eddie rules- himself. If you can even imagine.
My bgf told me at a show in '07, she wanted to be Eddie's guitar in her second life. Word.🎸💍🔥
I have to say this...THE GOAT...hands down...thank you EVH for a lifetime of musical memories...may you rest in piece brother
Oh.... you did. My favorite guitarist! Thank dear!❤️
He threw his pick to audience. They are glued to front of guitar.
The technique is called tapping. When they started playing clubs in LA, he did the solo with his back to the audience so no one could copy. Self taught. And he also built his own guitar by combining parts of old guitars. Eddie Van Halen, and Alex Van Halen on drums... started the band in the 70s. Both self taught.
Guitar players... all have their own genre. Eddie is sheer R&R. Thanks again!
RIP Eddie, one of the greatest EVER!!
Thanks men for reacting to this sólo. Keep rocking your are very fun to watch.
I watch you in the morning to start my day with a smile, and usually you'll react to something I already love. Van Halen rocks!!! I'm a fan of ALL VH, Diamond Dave days, Sammy Hagar I like them all!
There's nothing like being there live in a large packed stadium, feeling his solo vibrate through your whole body. I am very lucky to have seen Van Halen 40-50 times. I never got a chance to see Hendrix. You better believe I NEVER miss Van Halen when they come to town. I have an Eddie Van Halen guitar pick tossed during Dance The Night Away! I met David Lee Roth! These are my guys! Let us pray for Eddie. He has been sick with cancer for a few years. I don't want to lose him anytime soon.
.....2020 😈
10/6/2020 RIP
I have never missed a show, since 1979. Too bad I'm too fat to wear all the F-ing T-shirts! Hahahaaa!
@ Steven Hoskins
I know what you mean. More motivation to lose weight so I can wear them again. I used to wear old tour shirts to the current tour. It was definitely a special feeling. In 2004 I saw them in Vegas and I wore my 1984 shirt. Some lady in the bathroom said "where'd you get that shirt?"I said, " I bought it 1984".
@@trianafoxwood7525 The lion with the sunglasses, if i recall correctly. haha
Its so sad that eddie passed this year. Made me cry, i been playing his songs on guitar for about 10 years now. Greatest guitarist that ever lived, im just grateful to learn his style over years of playing.
I know u r a big Michael Jackson fan: Did u know Eddie VH did the guitar solo to BEAT IT?
I think I remember that from mTV 1.0
i bet he dont know
I Didn't know THAT-- And I had the 45!
Why, because he's black, just racebaiting you hahaha
Yup!
He used to play this solo with his back to the audience, so people didn't know how he played what he did!!!!
I love the story from a few months back where Eddie and his son were at a Tool concert and this guy randomly asked Eddie to take a pic for him of him with Tool stage in the background; all the while this guy not knowing who the stranger is he just asked to take the pic.
Eddie probably got a kick out of that
Best guitar player of all time, I cant stop watching this solo over the years. Rest in peace Eddie, you are missed.
"Eruption" was not considered as a track for the Van Halen album as it was just a guitar solo Eddie performed live in the clubs. But Ted Templeman overheard it in the studio as Eddie was rehearsing it for a club date at the Whisky a Go Go and decided to include it on the album.
Eddie Van Halen died of throat cancer today. If you are thinking of doing a review in his honor, I recommend doing Top of the World. Incredibly sad day for rock fans. Tough news to take.
He actually died from a stroke my friend. That wasn't announced until much later after his death and cremation. Not your fault. Just informing a great fan of Eddy's.
@@alyoung7302 He died of cancer. That same cancer brought on the stroke. When you have had certain cancers, it brings about a larger chance of having a fatal stroke.

michael jackson believed eddie was the best by far, and was thrillered that eddie agreed to play the solo on "beat it".
Yeah; Michael wanted him for name recognition and bigger sales. Business decision. He used Slash the same way.
@EJ D that isnt how eddie tells it. although he rewrote 1 chord in the solo. it was under 15 minutes work, why would he need 2 packs of cigarettes for that?
I see what you did there. ;-)

This just proves what I always said Eddie VanHalen was a freaky genius. RIP my brother 🙏 😢 💔 those of us that remember 🙏 you will always love and miss you. You were one of a kind ✨
When Dweezil Zappa was 12 years old his mother came and picked him up from school because Eddie Van Halen had stopped by the house. Frank, Dweezil's dad wanted him to learn Eddie's guitar style.
I heard that Eddie found out Dweezil was a fan, so he showed up to surprise him. Gave him some lessons and remained friends.
Frank was CrazyPants
Great reaction! I'll save you the trouble of looking, there is no one better on the guitar then the late Eddie VanHalen, may he rest in peace.
Eddie Van Halen was so far ahead of his time that when Van Halen first started doing shows, he would play his solos with his back to the crowd so no one could see how he did the finger tapping on the strings. He coaxes sounds out of a guitar that no one knew were possible.
That was on the advice of Alex to protect his signature style. From one fan to another...
rest in peace eddie, my biggest inspiration, was a huge pleasure to meet you during your 08 tour, i was only 9 years old when my sister took me to see you and i wish i had realized that you would become my biggest inspiration along with cliff burton and dimebag darrel, keep it up in guitar heaven
Eddie couldn't get the sound he wanted, so he reconstructed his own guitars. Then created his own style of play. That other had to find a new way to write music for . He still dosn't read . Really he tore everything up and said " this is what Rock n Roll guitar looks like to me." And the world followed. I kind of think that alone makes him the #1 greatest of all time. Name anyone else that did that. All of that. You can't. And i would also put Alex VanHalen right up there with some of the greats drummers of all time . And lets not forget Mickael Anthony holding thinks down on bass . Diamond David Lee Roth, or The Red Rocker Sammy Hagar . One hell of a band. But Eddie changed Rock. Great rabbit hole to go down. Love the reaction. Keep it up bro. Your becoming the Eddie VanHalen or reactions .
Well yes you are correct in giving Eddie props for influence in the actual manufacturing of guitars ... but yes there was another whose pioneer vision created a rock guitar icon before there ever was a thing .. his name was Les Paul
@@ekgrafix Same goes for drums and Gene Krupa.
klaptongroovemaster well he said name another person that’s did this sort of thing so I did
I mean, Les Paul is the easy answer to your question. One of the best electric guitar players ever, as well. He basically invented a lot of electric guitar and recording/mixing innovations in common use today. Edit: I see someone else was thinking the same thing as I.
@@ekgrafix right on, didn't know that😎👍
His brother Alex, the drummer, said I don't know what planet he came from but all of them played guitar!!
Love Van Halen there great glad u liked it
I'm an older guy in my late 50's. I started playing classical piano over 50 years ago when I was 5. When I heard the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix for the first time I knew I was going to break my grandma's heart (she was my piano instructor). I got my first Stratocaster the following year but the deal with my dad was we had to keep it a secret from grandma. I just soaked up everything Hendrix like a dry sponge. Jimi got the ball rolling and hard rock was born. When Eddie came on the scene a few years later I was truly blown away again. I am going somewhere with this. Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen were the true innovators of the rock genre. There are many great guitar heros in the history of rock but these 2 guys Eddi and Jimi were the ones that every guitar player aspired to be. I'm so glad I stumbled across your TH-cam site. Keep it coming. I hit all the buttons that matter. Ima gonna do some binge watching...

Early on Eddie stayed home for a year to learn what he could do with a guitar. He picks the strings and holds chords with both hands and picks with his teeth. Nobody else does all this. He is the one and only.
You've seen SRV. You've seen Jimi Hendrix. You've seen Eddie Van Halen.

Van Halen is the only band I've seen live twice. Certainly one of my all time favorites. Eddie is legendary.
This guy is one of a kind. Eddie and Alex Van Halen are both talented, you reacted to Panama.
This solo is unbelievable, and I’m fortunate enough to have seen this live......🎼🎶🎸🔥🤘😎
Parking a cigarette in the guitar up top is classic rock star...Keith Richards( Rolling Stones ) Eric Clapton, lots of guys do that.....now maybe you’ll look for it, lol. When this guy gets rollin......his fingers are smokin.....facts.
You watching Eddie so intensely speaks volumes. I could see how enthralled and amazed you were with his guitar playing.
You should know that this was not the same Eruption played at every venue nor the same as on the album. This was Eddie jamming
“Hot for Teacher” by Van Halen ❤️
"Maybe I should go to Hell, but honey I'm doing well, the teacher needs to see me after school..."
The beginning part of this performance is a separate song called “316” which was released on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album in 1991. The second part is what’s called “Eruption” though it’s a different interpretation than they released on their 1978 debut album. That’s still the standard and the one people went Wild over back in the day. I believe this is from the 1987 concert video Live Without a Net. Going to have to watch it again. Sadly, I’m seeing this come up on my feed just a few days after EVH passed away. May he Rest In Peace. Also, great reaction. Loved it. ✌️
Wow... commented before I finished seeing the whole thing... the third part of this solo is called “Cathedral” which was on the Diver Down album. Then he did a fourth part which seemed to be a mish mash of different parts to other solos or intros to different songs. Very cool.
Calling any guitarist or musician "the greatest" is subjective. For me, EVH took guitar playing to a level that revolutionized guitar playing. His style was so different, so unique. I think tapping was created in the 60s but EVH made it an art form.
It is called tapping while he is doing hammer ons and pull offs, lots of other guitarists try doing that but Van Halen is the master, in my opinion Van Halen was the Jimmy Hendrix of the 80s, 90s and 2000s, may he R.I.P
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen :( A living legend who is no longer among us :(
Turn that amp up louder because we miss you already, Eddie. Thank you for all the joy and brilliance.
This is a blend of some of Eddie's best studio solos (Eruption, Cathedral, 3:16 and others). The more familiar you are with these album tracks, the more you'll enjoy this live solo. Btw, when you're telling him to flatten it up, he begins playing Cathedral using the volume knob to create that incredible sound.
I know people have already told you this but it was his guitar picks he was throwing to the crowd for souvenirs. Also a lot of people miss this but about half way through he starts using his right hand not to strum but on the volume knob. He keeps turning it up and down so only what he wants you to hear comes out the amplifier. People don't realize the difficulty level it takes to make that sound good. Thanks for reacting to my request brother. Great job as always. Peace.
Eddie is the man!
Who in the world can make their guitar sound like a cello? A one- man symphony, he was. Spectacular. Thankyou!

R.I.P Eddie...there's no one like you!!!
Every time I watch this video, I can't not look at the look on Eddie's face when he's in the zone. Eyes closed, feeling the vibe. Smiling all the way.
Let me help you out... Just a little...
Hendrix = FEEDBACK... There's stuff about how he set up amp's and pedals they STILL CAN'T FRIGGIN' FIGURE OUT... SO his are the tracks still used... nobody's done better... and that's all there is to it. SURE, he had legendary skills for his time at the play techniques (behind the head, with his teeth) but the "stunts" have been reproduced...
SRV = Blues and slide and raw technique... He's unorthodox and carried his STYLE way outside the usual. Being self taught, he was never told not to go with the heaviest strings in the business, but it resulted in serious muscle tones and the kind of athletic guitarist style that nearly noone can even compete with... let alone repeat. Watch the "guitar swap" again... CLOSELY... and you'll notice that in order to avoid missing a beat, he's not just working the left hand to tune, but HOLDING UP THE GUITAR while he plays with it... Try that... It's not impossible for a second or two... but for a bar of music... um... no... just no.
Van Halen = POWER FINGERING... Now this (along with the slide) is a technique a LOT of guitarists at least "tinker" with. However, few ever really master. Van Halen Mastered it... There are a few others who would give him a run for his money by NOW, but... Remember when he was up and coming... it was still being explored and barely making mainstream...
Power fingering... (for those not in the know)... Drop your pick, you don't need it... Now... Anywhere around the fret-board, BANG your fingers as hard and tight as you can... The harder you can "bang", the crisper the note... It doesn't matter which hand, because the guitar can't tell the difference... but hit the fret-board and then hold the finger-position for the note. That's about it. It's damn nearly impossible on an Acoustic... BUT any electric can be tuned to do well with the technique... Your REAL trick is the delicate balance between being able to power-finger and then pick later... which is what makes Van Halen legendary. Notice he'd freely bounce back and forth between techniques without hesitation, no extraneous tuning, and it never made a "dirty" sound...
SO there you go, Boss. Hope this helps. You have a few basic notions of stuff to "fiddle with" while on your guitar journey. GOOD LUCK! ;o)
Power fingering? Lol. It's called tapping.
13:45 that's straight up Mozart on a guitar. I seriously cannot tell the difference between Eddie and Mozart at this point
After he was done, the guitar smoked the cigarette and sighed. ;)
I love how parts sound like Bach or Mozart. Eddie-- you were such a musical genius!
Jimi was an innovator. Eddie was an innovator. Considered by more than a majority as the 2 greatest guitarists to ever pick up a guitar.
I'd like to see your list of the greatest guitarists who never picked up a guitar
I truly love SRV (got to see him once right before he died) and have always been a big fan of Hendrix (although too young to have had a chance to see him), but Eddie is my guy! That was my first concert when I was a kid, Diver Down tour in '82, and next to Metallica the band I've seen live the most is VH. Along with Jimi he was the most influential and innovative guitarist in rock. I've heard that when they were first starting out in Pasadena he would play with his back to the crowd so that no one could figure out how he was making those sounds and copy him. He continued to evolve with each successive album and I remember dying with anticipation to hear what he would make his guitar do next. What's so special about this performance is that each "section" of the solo has it's own unique style and sound. And I LOVE that he almost always has a smile on his face while doing it! His passing hit me harder than any other. I cried for a week. There's always going to be debates about who's the best. Personal preferences and different genres/styles of course play a factor. To me Edward Van Halen was the greatest and I feel blessed to have seen him. RIP 🙏🤘
