The automotive press drove both the XP-4 (dark blue metallic) and the XP-5 (British racing green). The XP-4 was sold in mid 1990s and Tiff Needel drove it on an episode of top gear. They tested it out on the Nardo ring. The XP-5 set the record for 241mph at the Ehra Leissen test track in 1998. If you search for the top speed record, you'd see Andy Wallace drive this very car. Rowan Atkinson crashed his Burgundy F1 twice with the second crash being more severe. The car got repaired and was sold in 2015. It's now owned by a Saudi rich kid Mr. JWW on TH-cam did a video on it a few years back. The second caliper on the rear brake is for the parking brake. I think they inserted a molded plastic piece into the headlight assembly and then inserted the clear plastic piece over it. Much better than the two blobs of paint Kyosho used. The engine details are weak. No doubt about it. Though the road cars have black cam covers on the engine and the race cars and LM have coloured ones. They should've atleast molded an engine over there. You can see through the two mirrors as the two square sections molded on either side on the heat sheild area actually house two windows on the real car, allowing the driver to see through the mirrors. I'm eagerly awaiting mine. The dealer said it comes in next month. Can't wait. This has been one of the most awaited castings in 1/64 scale. Mini GT has hinted that they would be coming out with the McLaren F1 GTR by displaying a prototype at the HK diecast expo so hope is there that the GTR would be made by one of the modern diecast brands.
LCD did a great job recreating the color shifting green of the real car, but the qc jumped off a cliff. I've seen many complaints of similar issues but mine really hit the jackpot. Glue residues all over the place on front & tail lights, both mirrors, back grill & exhaust pieces, one set of rear lights with red on the outside that fell out.
I bought all 9 LCD colors of the 600LT and love those. (All the Paganis too). I love this car and glad to see it up close in your review, it’s very disappointing to see the lights are decals over the clear coat. They will curl and fall off. A serious bummer..
They did it back in 1995 under the Paul's Model Art name. It was the only 1/64 premium model of it until the Kyosho casting came about. Now we have the LCD.
@@smallmodelcollector yes sadly Mini Champs only made it in 1/87 scale since their rebranding in the early 2000s. I would've gotten that one but for 1/87 standards, its as good as the Kyosho.
Super dark green it looks black from far away the pictures online fooled me it was a beautiful green. Honestly will probably resell it 😞 or have someone redo the color such a shame too.

Does the Kyosho have any better engine details than the LCD? Since that was the LCD's only weak point. The rest of the model is absolutely stunning.

When compared with the real deal, they did not do a good job with the front end.
