Jideofor Okoye, a huge number of people helped create the huge success for the song. Harry Bellefonte initially suggested the song to Lionel Richie in the first place who then called Quincy Jones about producing it. Quincy Jones then suggested asking other music stars to participate. None declined to be involved.
I see how much Andy lights up when he talks to actual celebrities lol. He's tired of the housewives. It's like his old self in this interview and I love to see it.
@@noname-nobody1247 Lionel Richie wrote the music and initiated the lyrics which Michael Jackson picked up on to complete. Thus, they wrote the song TOGETHER
WOW!! Okay, that was awesome! I'd never heard most of those stories. The first album I ever got was Lionel's "Can't Slow Down". I've always been a HUGE Lionel fan and I'm so happy he's been back in the spotlight where he deserves to be. The man is a legend!
Lionel forgot to tell that: · Prince donates a complete song for the album. · Prince hated the song "We Are The World". · Prince wasn't a divo or egocentric contrary to what people think. He was, in words of the musicians and artists he worked with, generous and unselfish, he always let his individual members in the band shine, he gave a lot of songs to other artists for free and he always had his feet in the ground and donates to schools, Black Lives Matters and a lot of organisations. He wasn't mean and there are hundreds of testimonials against Lionel's words.
You have to give lionel some credit lol the song sounds the same but the lyrics are different. It sounds good either way but the fact is the song was rearranged and lyrics were changed. Sounds great either way
You were not there. The song was written within 3 days, so I do not know what demo you were hearing. They co wote the song raised over 63 million dollars to save human lives. It is awful to come on here talking this way. It was about saving lives, not being petty. I loved Michael also, but this was so wrong of you to write this. Certainly you did not stay within the guidelines of being respectful. I challenge you to post this mystery demo. Lionel and Michael wrote the lyrics together. How many people have you helped save?
See, how much of the money raised by the song actually went to help feed hungry children? That's what you wanna ask about Prince not showing up. Because there is that line in the song "Hello" that goes - we're against hungry children, our record stands tall, but there's just as much hunger here at home."
@@melsmithmel With all due respect, what you described is arrogance. This song was supposed to be focused on a more important agenda, but it sounds like he wanted to make it about himself.
We know who wrote majority of the song!! It’s no secret!! It’s a beautiful song. Quincy made some changes while directing the masterpiece. But my biggest quest is why did Clyde Davis keep Whitneyfrom performing? So sad!! Madonna, look in the gang, etc.
Not true lol Lionel came up with the chorus melody, check out Michael’s 1993 Mexico deposition, he tells the story. They both wrote the lyrics together
The real truth is Prince did not like Michael Jackson, especially after the humiliation he went through live on stage with MJ and James Brown in 1981. Prince's guitar wasn't working at all and a lamp post (fake) toppled over on top of him after he grabbed it to leave the stage. MJ was also a bit more popular than Prince.
Love hearing MJ stories.
We LOVE Michael Jackson, PERIODT
Give lionel some credit guys, he worked all round for the success of this beautiful song. 💕 😘

How can this man be 71? He looks great wow!
It's called money.
i love when andy has legends on the show. the stories are so rich
The Bruce and Steve combo was crazy! It was like lets come in soft then hit'em hard
Loved it!
Lionel is class and talent personified 🥰
The funniest part is missing , Michael calming screaming Lionel " he loves you , he just wanna say hi to you " :D
Absolutely beautiful. I'm just so happy they all got together and sang this song. The best of the best sang it.
Michael was main writer of the song.
No, he wasn't. Lionel and MJ wrote the song together. Lionel knows music, MJ didn't actually did everything by ear.
@@bohwe43 Michael Jackson started writing it
@@noname-nobody1247 Lionel Richie wrote the music and initiated the lyrics which Michael Jackson picked up on to complete. Thus, they wrote the song TOGETHER
@@sergeantmasson3669 The demo says otherwise.. Lionel is nowhere on the demo. He only contributed to some lyrics.
@@CCI320 MJ didn't know how to read/write music. He helped Lionel with the lyrics. BTW, my give a damn is busted.

Interesting questions. Thanks Andy for asking them.
Love his music
Michael wrote the song and allowed Lionel to add some changes to the words. This is a Michael Jackson song that he decided to share.
Lionel Richie is such a fascinating person so why the disturbing elevator music in the background?🙄
Thank god, I was wondering what other tab I had open 😂
@@hridaymehta5782 Crazy, right?😂
@@theresenydahl9531 Yeah it’s like they mixed an insider restaurant video with this interview 😂
I absolutely love love Lionel Richie He is awesome in everything he does
And why aren't Michael's songs played in public anymore? It's a shame I hate what is being done with Michael's legacy.
I hear mj song plays in public all the time.
Legend right there
Aww❤❤"We Are The World." 🍓
So funny about that MJ story 🤣🤣🤣🤣

LIONEL RICHIE ROCKS ON WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE WITH ANDY COHEN !!!
He should have asked about Madonna too not just Prince
They did. She was on tour at the time & could not participate.
hello where is the youths fountain keep up the good work.
Beautiful song still
Long live the King!
If you listen to the demo before Lionel had anything to do with that song, you will realize Lionel didn't write sh*t. That was all Michael lol
Exactly

MJ wrote the song and melody all by himself. Lionel came up with a lick but didn't make the final cut.
