    I just use my Voigtländer Macro Apo-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical and Voigtländer Macro Apo-Lanthar 110mm 2.5 Lenses which I both can highly recommend. I have not used flash for macro photography for 45 years, I like the natural light.

    Great review. I laughed out loud when you first lifted up your camera and revealed your lighting setup. I've seen a lot of camera and lens reviews that place a heavy emphasis on looking cool, and it's refreshing that macro shooters will sacrifice all of that to get the images they want.

    I'm a botanist because my biochemistry wasn't good enough to study entomology back in the mid 70s, but in my heart I'm still an entomologist. I've had an A-Mount Sigma 105mm on an LA-EA3 for most of my photos, but more recently I've been using the Sony 100-400GM to give me 1/3 magnification and record more documentary of the larger Tipula, Lepidoptera etc, but I'm tempted by the Laowa to push in a bit more, probably just working at 1.5x, but I'm considering the 60mm for something different

    I can buy Laowa 90 mm right now, BUT.. I really love those focus brackets, and by having A7-IV i am unable too.. sometimes I'd like to have more than "one shot" but focus stack.
    I'd have to invest for 90 mm sony AF macro + Raynox 250 for the same equivalent (well, that would be 3:1 even then), and at least a6700 focus this function. I am so on the edge of the choice...

    I have their wonderful 85mm f/5.6 2x lens and it's really great, plus small enough to keep in my kit for "just in case." (the lens hood on it is also quite tight). Now that they have 85mm, 90mm, and 100mm, how woudl you comprare them vs each other? The 90 and 100 are, of course, f/2.8 but we do step into them a bit anyway so I'm not sure it's much of a factor.
    You're getting some cracking shots!

      @WalksOnTheWildSide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I've not used the 85mm yet, but I think you'll like the 90mm and 100mm because they will get smoother backgrounds due to having more aperture blades. The 85mm has just 7, the 90mm has 13 and 100mm has 13 (or most versions of it have 13, there are some versions that have less). But effectively the 90mm is a redesign of the 100mm and by losing 10mm focal length it has taken about 3cm off the length of the lens and reduced the working distance. So the 100mm and 90mm are very similar lenses. In the next few weeks I'm going to be making a video for Laowa comparing a few different focal lengths. It will be published on their channel rather than mine, so keep your eyes peeled for it. Thanks for watching.

    I have the 65mm for apsc. I lost the cap the first day I went out with it. It never was a problem, though.

    Maybe an asymmetric lens hood would be useful - something that could shade the lens to block sunlight from above, but be open at the bottom to let you get close to the subject.

      @WalksOnTheWildSide  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barneylaurance1865 Yes, I googled it after reading your comment and can see no reference to such a lens hood. Maybe you’ve got an invention on your hands. But it’s a very good lens. I’m really impressed.

    I have the Sony 90 and love it. Kinda want to get a 2nd macro lens for more magnification. Was looking at this or the 25 2.5-5 but don’t know what the best compliment lens to the Sony would be. Any suggestions since you have all 3?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would go for a different focal length if you already have a 90mm. Perhaps the 58mm would be good because you’ll get a different angle of view to the 90 and also get x2 magnification. But the 15mm wide angle is also a lot of fun, but only 1x. The 25mm 2.5-5x is best if you want to photograph really tiny subjects (things like aphids). I think the discount code I gave works for any lens you buy from Laowa, not just the 90mm.

    Nice, but sadly not a lens i could need for the macro photography i do.
    I mainly shot high close ups (3-7x) so i have only small parts of an animal showing like the scales of butterfly wings etc. so a littel more artistic. Bit still nice lens i would consider purchasing if i had a mirrorless body

      I do a little of that myself, using the Laowa 25mm 2.5x - 5x lens, but I've not made a video about that yet.

  • @rcorrea26

    what F stop are you using for these shots?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of the shots would have been at f/8 or above as that's my go to. Cameras can't pick up the aperture information from manual lenses and so it doesn't write back to the file. I had been keeping a note of f stops used on my phone but somehow lost the note. So I left them out rather than guess.

      There is a Laowa 65mm 2x Ultra Macro in Fuji X

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only Laowa macro lens for Fuji at the moment is the 65mm. So it’s got a slightly wider angle of view. You still get 2:1 magnification but it gets a little more of the background in the image. I’ve never used it, but I’ll be trying the 58mm soon, which is a similar lens. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.

    I got this lens a month ago, but i just noticed today when i was playing with it that the front part where the hood attachment is( blue ring), got a little room for some wiggle... is it normal?

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. None of my Laowa lenses wiggle at the blue line at the front, so perhaps there is something wrong with the one you've got. It would be worth contacting the seller to get it checked out. If you bought it directly from Venus Optics you get a 3 year warranty. Hope you're enjoying the lens other than that. Thanks for watching.

    You got the title wrong, it's 100mm. These Laowa macro lens are fantastic. I have three of them now, the 100mm, the 2.5-5x and the 15mm f4. I think you may find the 15mm f4 interesting if you could get to test one...
