Man, im like, 30% to the skill cap (mostly Dfly, Bearger, and Cave/Ruins mobs. I play Together mostly and my friends eat all the damned food and my wolfgang can't hold up) and on my first try against Deerclops and I got a flawless kill. Deerclops is super easy.
Funny how I feel like a pro for feeding off of butterfly wings, Butter Muffins, and Tallbirds, whereas you're playing as Wes, fighting off a Deerclops. At night. Tell me where I can get those titanium balls!
literatemax winters ezy i started the adventure mode to get maxwell (and maybe wes) but mostly maxwell so i started it as the robot and immidiently i would either spawn winter or spring and i hoped for winter because in spring it rains every couple of seconds so i would get fucked by rain alone
had to replay the introduction about the mod 3 times to determine if playing Wes was a requirement... realizes that it's not.... don't know whether to be impressed or worried about how this guy thinks..
This is the most intense series I've seen about this game. I was also looking to learn some nice tricks and this is just about right. Props to you sir, you're great
That was kinda me but I started to learn the game mechanics for a month or two before starting this challenge... I sucked at first but managed to hang on thanks to the goddess of luck and once I got a few farms and bee boxes going it became fairly easy as I was good at kiting the bosses... Died on day 783 because I got cocky and attacked my own rock lobster army

Challenge Request: The ultimate gourmet(picky-eater) who eats every food once but only once, and survives a year. It's like the ultimate version of your Bingo collection game combining with a Warly-like picky-eating behavior. You'll be literally "starving" through the whole game. It's much like Warly's timer to be set like forever rather than 1.75 days. You should try every kind of food for once but only once, you remember every food you ate and refuse to give them a second try (or don't get benifit from a second try). And you have to survives a year. You shouldn't use Healing Salves when you're starving since it'll be a bit cheaty with setting up a Spider Gland farm to survive. I did a calculation (based on the Wikia page dontstarve.wikia.com/wiki/Food) for the concept and theoretically it's possible. All kinds of foods (raw and cooked version are considered as two kinds) in RoG and SW makes up to a total hunger value of 3599.4125 (DST and Warly's special recipes excluded) which could only make normal characters (75 hunger drain per day) survive for 48 days. But with Belt of Hunger you can make it to 80 days, and thats longer than a year in DS. Warly should be the perfect character for this personality and to my suprise he actually could be more difficult than normal characters on this task. Even with his special recipes, bonus from crock pot foods and a Belt of Hunger, he can only make to (4048.96+250)/(99.75x0.6)=71.8 days, merely longer than a year in RoG but shorter than a year in SW. It means you should rush for Belt of Hunger in 2 days and use every kind of foods for maximum utilization to achieve this goal. So I'd like you play this challenge with Warly. It could be an impossible task for Wes ( (3599.4125+113)/(93.75x0.6)=66 so theoretically Wes can't do that even with Belt of Hunger from the every first day. I think of this idea because when I finished watching all your challenge videos, I immediately became your big fan but I'm still not satisfied with all the challenge videos. I'm both impressed by your ideas and skills shown in the early games, and bored by the repetitious part in the late games. For example your Endless Bosses & Only Farm Foods Eating challenge is really a thriller to watch from the very first episodes, but once you set up your base with a stack of pumpkins, things are starting to get repetitious and tame. I watched a lot of pro gamers play and they never really "starve" like the what the game title is about. I consider myself experienced and doesn't quite "starve" in the game, but with this concept I'm really starving. I'd like to see if you'll "starve" with this concept and I guess it'll be challenging and fun.
Looking forwards to your updates :) Oh I also just reconsidered it and found that it's actually possible with Wes but he should be taking at least 24 starving damage per day to survive 70 days even with Belt of Hunger from the first day. Never mind, that will be too tough for Wes I guess...
Hi Joeshmocoolstuff, right now I'm modding a Warly MOD for this challenge concept and found Warly's default hunger modifier doesn't work like Wes's, the challenge can't be done by default. You may wanna modify warly.lua file a bit if you start this challenge. I guess you should know how to modify it since you're also a great modder. I'll just drop it here in case anyone else interested in this challenge: change inst.components.hunger:AddBurnRateModifier("warly", TUNING.WARLY_HUNGER_RATE_MODIFIER) to inst.components.hunger:SetRate(TUNING.WILSON_HUNGER_RATE*1.33) Also I just started a topic on reddit and I'd be glad to hear your opinions. There was a mod on steam that basically buffed the Giants greatly and gave them new abilities and made them harder to Kill in general, especially the dragonfly.
Great job on this challenge. Thanks for sharing! It's a breath of fresh air to not hear the youtuber cussing enough to make a salty sailor blush! It's fun to see all the boss mobs. I wish there was an easy mod that gives them 10% of max health for people who suck at this game, like me. xD (life, hunger, and sanity buff would be nice too lol)
Imagine this on together where there are so many more bosses like bee queen, klaus, toadstool, shadow pieces, and maybe fuelweaver, misery toads, and *ENRAGED KLAUS* later on because they are too damn powerful. Come to think of it, all of the aforementioned bosses are arguably harder to beat than the single-player bosses (except dragonfly for some) but hey, what do I know, I'm just rambling.

I started watching your vids after discovering your AM speedrun vid, and damn you're good at the game and explaining stuff clearly for the uninitiated. Love your vids. However, as I start to watch this series, I felt like the farm veggie limitation kinda came out of left field. I get that you want extra challenges, but why was the challenge set in the form of an arbitrary food limitation? The vid is entertaining I'm just wondering
It isn't arbitrary. I explained in the video. It makes things exciting. In the beginning, there is a time limit to defeat the first boss and get a farm up and running, and then after that it's a constant struggle to get enough farm food while giants are spawning all the while. If I'm allowed to eat anything, I can just lazily lead the first boss around the world like a pet on a leash, munching on berries and butterflies as I go, then when I do decide to kill the bosses, I wouldn't have to do much besides wait for the next meat-delivery vehicle (ahem.. boss) to spawn for my next shipment of food. If the bosses themselves were more challenging like they are in DST, then maybe it'd work without farm food.

Agreed. It wouldn't really push me that hard without the food restriction. I'm considering activating a touch stone for this. Or maybe I'll wait and make a meat effigy. Touch stone still feels cheaty, but this would be a good time to use it. Thinking about it now, I'd have to rework the mod a bit and teleport the boss to the player upon death or else it'd just be a guaranteed gameover.
No, the way I set it up, the boss is essentially detached from you if you go to another level. I just didn't consider that at the time. I'll fix it though. Maybe have them follow you or disallow going to another level when there's an active boss.
Pro tip: If you plant a seed and then burn it it'll will give you a cooked plant, it even works in Winter. Just make sure the fire doesn't spread or else the farm will burn too.

The only miniboss creature I hate more than Vargs are Ewecuses, because at least you can RUN from vargs. Ewecuses trap you in place and kick your teeth out. Their loot isn't even good, so they're not even a high-risk high-reward thing like Treeguards and vargs
Challenge name: Wesgrid Challenge Discription: A mix between Wes and Wigfrid. The challenge is spawn in as Wes but you can only eat meat. Do commands and give yourself 2 morsels and a spear. Play mobile version for control difficulty kiting is extremely difficult most boss require ranged weapons it's almost hard mode and with Wes it is super hard mode
Day six! That was an accomplishment. Died of starvation just as Dusk began. Playing as Webber, which was both a blessing and a curse as Spider Queens and the Spider Rockylands/Lumpy Forest generation protect you, but the mandatory spider queen locks you down to wherever it feels like walking. I'll also say that while I made a lot of mistakes (making multiple improved farms, eating the pumpkin instead of feeding it to the bird) I kind of got screwed by bad luck getting Sweet Potatoes and Carrots from the farms, which annoyingly means that much of your survival is staked on your farm producing good crops instead of fodder. I would really like them to be edible, and there are two ways to remedy the random carrots- one, disable them by default or two, make the carrots gained from one of the sources a duplicate carrot which has the correct properties.
Nice! you definitely would have made it if not for those two mistakes. Yeah, the carrot thing is pretty annoying, but you can toggle carrots/potatoes on as an acceptable food in the mod config if you want.
"Made it", maybe for like five more days. I admittedly got relatively lucky with the Spider Queen being boss #1 (easy to kill with a torch) and the Varg being #2 (spider murder) but a traditional giant would have smashed the spiders. So maybe my luck balanced out. It is a bit annoying to start taking ticks of damage because you can't find the giant that attacked you, though.
Day 11 and counting! Got the Thick Fur, which will help a lot with hunger management once I craft it. At this point everything is staked on manure-fastgrowth working on winter crops. If not, death. Have like 50 seeds stocked and have the usual pumpkin seeds, so food won't be an issue so long as that all works out. Otherwise I'm probably dead.
No, they do, at least from what I've seen. Died to moose at day 21, oh well. Maybe they don't grow in snow, but they did in the short winter-based time that I was alive. Also, it's really, really, really annoying to not be able to find the giant and be taking ticks of damage, which was probably what screwed me there (lost at least half my health), though the mosslings are of course vicious. It feels a bit overkill to have both the mosslings and the goose when you have things like Deerclops who is pathetic and dragonfly who gets stuck between the obelisks and pig king = easy to kill.
Ur a good youtuber it's hard to do well with don't starve but ur videos need audio. Dnt starve is hard to do well with in TH-cam because it isn't very popular. Ur videos are all original and interesting u earned a sub
At the time you were to starving to death and when you made the first farm and ate the food one of the pigs said "TOO CLOSE" too close indeed to dieing.

Keep in mind DST is much harder unless you have a ton of people. For example, Dragonfly has 10x as much health, and derp lops has much more range on his attacks.
I don't need balloons at the start. They're a novelty item mainly used for decoration. If I jumped through the wormhole I would start getting the health penalty from the mod since I'm too far from the boss.

The raw farm food only is the most insane part I think. Bosses, even endlessly spawning ones, can be dealt with but man this whole thing is insane
Agreed. It wouldn't really push me that hard without the food restriction. I'm considering activating a touch stone for this. Or maybe I'll wait and make a meat effigy. Touch stone still feels cheaty, but this would be a good time to use it. Thinking about it now, I'd have to rework the mod a bit and teleport the boss to the player upon death or else it'd just be a guaranteed gameover.
To get to a slurper you'd need to go into a cave right? Since bosses can't follow I assume you'd just be losing health the whole time then?
No, the way I set it up, the boss is essentially detached from you if you go to another level. I just didn't consider that at the time. I'll fix it though. Maybe have them follow you or disallow going to another level when there's an active boss.

Pro tip: If you plant a seed and then burn it it'll will give you a cooked plant, it even works in Winter. Just make sure the fire doesn't spread or else the farm will burn too.

The only miniboss creature I hate more than Vargs are Ewecuses, because at least you can RUN from vargs. Ewecuses trap you in place and kick your teeth out. Their loot isn't even good, so they're not even a high-risk high-reward thing like Treeguards and vargs

There is a merely a chance that a shadow creature will spawn when you are below a threshold of sanity. It isn't a guarantee.

Play mobile version for control difficulty kiting is extremely difficult most boss require ranged weapons it's almost hard mode and with Wes it is super hard mode

Phuubz predictable, unfunny, and unoriginal.
Day six! That was an accomplishment. Died of starvation just as Dusk began. Playing as Webber, which was both a blessing and a curse as Spider Queens and the Spider Rockylands/Lumpy Forest generation protect you, but the mandatory spider queen locks you down to wherever it feels like walking.
I'll also say that while I made a lot of mistakes (making multiple improved farms, eating the pumpkin instead of feeding it to the bird) I kind of got screwed by bad luck getting Sweet Potatoes and Carrots from the farms, which annoyingly means that much of your survival is staked on your farm producing good crops instead of fodder. I would really like them to be edible, and there are two ways to remedy the random carrots- one, disable them by default or two, make the carrots gained from one of the sources a duplicate carrot which has the correct properties.
Nice! you definitely would have made it if not for those two mistakes. Yeah, the carrot thing is pretty annoying, but you can toggle carrots/potatoes on as an acceptable food in the mod config if you want.
"Made it", maybe for like five more days. I admittedly got relatively lucky with the Spider Queen being boss #1 (easy to kill with a torch) and the Varg being #2 (spider murder) but a traditional giant would have smashed the spiders. So maybe my luck balanced out.
It is a bit annoying to start taking ticks of damage because you can't find the giant that attacked you, though.
Day 11 and counting! Got the Thick Fur, which will help a lot with hunger management once I craft it.
At this point everything is staked on manure-fastgrowth working on winter crops. If not, death. Have like 50 seeds stocked and have the usual pumpkin seeds, so food won't be an issue so long as that all works out. Otherwise I'm probably dead.
anoobindisguise Crops don't grow during winter no matter what you do. That's why I need to get a stockpile of pumpkins before then.
No, they do, at least from what I've seen. Died to moose at day 21, oh well. Maybe they don't grow in snow, but they did in the short winter-based time that I was alive.
Also, it's really, really, really annoying to not be able to find the giant and be taking ticks of damage, which was probably what screwed me there (lost at least half my health), though the mosslings are of course vicious. It feels a bit overkill to have both the mosslings and the goose when you have things like Deerclops who is pathetic and dragonfly who gets stuck between the obelisks and pig king = easy to kill.
Ur a good youtuber it's hard to do well with don't starve but ur videos need audio. Dnt starve is hard to do well with in TH-cam because it isn't very popular. Ur videos are all original and interesting u earned a sub

"TOO CLOSE" too close indeed to dieing.
You should mod it so that only sweet potatoes grow in the wild and carrots can only be obtained through farming. Or vice versa.
So... day one, no armor, fighting a deerclops at night with just a torch, in a swamp with merms and tentacles AND while playing on Wes...

Keep in mind DST is much harder unless you have a ton of people. For example, Dragonfly has 10x as much health, and derp lops has much more range on his attacks.

I don't need balloons at the start. They're a novelty item mainly used for decoration. If I jumped through the wormhole I would start getting the health penalty from the mod since I'm too far from the boss.
