    Range increase by 25%, TR3 Technology by L3Harris, 16 new weapons, and many more are what you can expect for the new f-35 block 4. That Major Upgrade made the F-35 need a new engine (XA100 By GE), or an upgrade (F135 By Pratt & Whitney) is a minimum.

    Shocking! the F-35's New Engines Were Canceled - Are Taxpayers Losing $4 Billion? th-cam.com/video/JXn1DyEls-M/w-d-xo.html

      The F35 does NOT need a new engine. The PW F135 has HPT Growth margin and that is the plan. It would be STUPID to introduce a totally second parts stream into the program, besides why do you people always mention the GE variant and never the PW version of an 3-stream adaptive cycle. Why would tax payers be loosing 4 Billion, the adaptive engine programs are not going anywhere, and they were never intended for the F35. They will likely end up in the B21, the NGAD and the Navy's F/A-XX programs.

    Go all out. It's not about money. They been spending crazy. Just make the best jet. Don't care about the price like they been doing. Faster and more fuel effective let's do it. They still can do both though. At different times.

      GE had the f120 adaptive cycle engine for the yf-22 vs yf-23 dem/val and PW convinced the brass that their f119 was the more reliable tech. I heard there was some sort of agreement between PW, GE and RR to co-develop a new engine. GE was refining adaptive cycle. Rolls Royce was to embed electricity generation directly in the main shaft, eliminating the PTO and it's jack shaft. PW was working on a sub-sonic intake impeller to create pressure more efficiently. Of the 3 (afaik) only GE has ceramic matrix composites. Imagine a engine that weighs less than half of a PW F135.

    So the engine is probably a variable bypass afterburning turbofan. Biggest hurdle is probably getting the variable angle stators to work well with the large changes in airflow due to the large bypass capability. Looks good on paper at least. Kinda reminds me of the bypass system on the J58 used for the ramjet capability

      No. The F16 ,F18, and F15 cannot.The Gripen only M1.1 with weapons. Rafale and Typhoon do M1.3-1.4 with weapons. All of these have poor stealth with weapons except the F22. Storing weapons internally makes for a "fat" fighter jet which isnt good for high speed cruise.

  • @DerekJones1081962
    @DerekJones1081962 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They need both greater fuel efficiency and an increase in power to achieve reduced operating costs. Therefore, a new engine design is needed. The GE engine shows much greater potential for super-cruise. And, the ability to utilize synthetic fuels is a bonus that shouldn't be overlooked. Synthetic fuel could keep the planes flying in the ever-more likely WWIII three-front scenario. Europe, the South China sea, and the Middle East.
