Whole-Brain Engineering

Northwestern Engineering Dean Julio M. Ottino was honored with the 2017 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technical Education from the National Academy of Engineering for the development of the school's Whole-Brain Engineering philosophy. Whole-Brain Engineering integrates left-brain thinking (analysis, logic, synthesis, and math) with right-brain thinking (intuition, metaphorical thought, and creative problem solving) to help solve the world’s most pressing problems.
