    Oh my goodness. Two young women making a real difference!

    Love the intergenerational empathy these young women show! They get that, for older folks, writing things by hand can be important. Typing things on a keyboard is practical, but not emotionally the same. They recognized the problem and came up with a smart solution!

    I hope they make a latex free version too for those of us with allergies. I imagine this could be a help to those with tremors caused by anything and stroke victims. I would have liked to see a more comprehensive explanation of why it helps.

    It should have been explained why it works and who with Parkinson’s would benefit. That is, the disease has many stages and I don’t understand how it would help with someone like my former colleague, who can’t do most household tasks because of uncontrollable shaking.

      well as with any disability, there are varying levels of capability from case to case. There is no one size fits all to adaptive equipment, and writing would likely be a much bigger challenge for him and require more adaptations

    That's awesome, I thought it was going to have some feedback mechanism that counter acts the tremors that a hand might have, but then to find out that it's basically just a weighted pen to add more inertia so it's hard to "wiggle" is pretty cool.

    I love that theyre taking donations for this too, so many people suffering from parkinsons dont have a lot of extra money. I dont see a link for the website where you can donate

      Couldn't the hand-writing product and its website be found using a search engine?

      @estherbrown4084 in the age of phishing & scam copy cat websites that many fall victim to, it never hurts to request an official link. Just sayin.

    Many more have severe shaking from medications and could also benefit. Some are not able to use phones appropriately due to the mental illness for which these medications are needed, so if this helps them regain the ability to write or draw that would be wonderful.

    Truly wonderful! My mother has Parkinsons, and she loves writing, especially with the italic nibbed fountain pen I gave her (the broad nib is more forgiving). I need to learn more about how this could help her keep up writing by hand, which will get more and more difficult as the disease progresses.

    This is so awesome. I've known so many people in my life with Parkinson's Disease (two who have already passed away because they had the Alzheimer's/Parkinson's combo within 10 years of diagnosis) and this would be a great help to a lady I know in my church who has it. I also think my dad might possibly have the same thing his mother had (Alzheimer's/Parkinson's disease) as he gets older because he already has a hard time remembering things at times and his hands get shakey sometimes.

    1:24 "Computer ANIMATED design"?? The students who actually built it would know it's Computer *Aided* Design. SMH just another example of pretty students taking the credit of other hard working students

    I still don’t understand how it works. So it just holds the thing?

    • @kaylaprieto5301
      @kaylaprieto5301 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I believe it holds and uses magnets on the board with the pen to be stable to provide intentional writing,

    • @junbh2
      @junbh2 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's partly that it's hard to hold thin objects and partly that their hands shake. So this has a big fat grip and is kind of heavy feeling so you have to push harder to move it and it won't shake as much by accident.
      Obviously it still depends on how bad their Parkinson's is.

    I wonder if this would help people with Huntington's Disease also. My husband had HD. I had to sign for him often as he had lost all ability to write.

    Great story! This is a wonderful invention that could have beneficial application in addition to helping people with Parkinson's. Just like youngsters have an easier time maneuvering thicker crayons and pencils, the same holds true as we age.

    Let's hope that no one else from another country like China develops the device for pennies on the dollar and sells them at discount stores. This company came first and should be in lead control over their innovation.

    I love this. Weirdos will call this pen "woke" because it caters to disabled people but for the 1 million people that could benefit from it I'm so excited 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

    • @floatingdaisy3256
      @floatingdaisy3256 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think it’s important to understand the original meaning of “woke.” Before it was turned into a dirty word by the culture wars, it meant “awakened to social issues.” So, this pen is indeed woke because the people who made it were awakened to the fact that disabilities like Parkinson’s make it hard to write. That doesn’t make calling it woke a bad thing, though.

      Are people calling disability aids woke now? I've seen people mocking items for being unnecessary because they don't understand that they are designed to help disabled people but I've never heard anyone say that disability aids existing, to allow disabled people to do stuff they are unable to do easily or at all otherwise, is woke
