If you pay $12,000 for full FSD, you should absolutely be able to transfer it to new vehicles as long as you are still the registered owner of every new vehicle. That’s the only incentive for buying it. $99 per month, 12 months in a year, for 10 years is only still less at $11,880. Most people don’t keep their vehicle 10 years, so there has to be some incentive to pay that much money up front or you might as well just do the $99 a month forever.

The subscription model makes way more sense if Tesla takes legal liability since the “AI driver” will need to be “insured”.
I would consider paying $12k for a personal lifetime license transferable between cars but no way I’d pay to attach it to a car.
And no way I’m letting my car be a Robotaxi, why would you let people puke in the back of your car for a dollar per hour.
But $99/mo is the first time I’ve ever seriously considered getting FSD

I don't think paying $12K for FSD is worth it unless you can transfer it to a new Tesla. It's wrong on all levels that you can't transfer it after paying that much for something. Either make it a subscription for everyone or allow FSD transfer all the time.

If you were paying $0.20/kWh for electricity thst $100 would get you 500 kWh of electricity. The Model 3 LR uses ~0.300 kWh/mile. So on 500 kWh it could travel 500 kWh ÷ 0.300 kWh/mile = 1,666.7 miles. Times 12 months, that is 20,000 miles of driving.

FSD is GREAT ! Love it. Tesla should require viewing a short video in car video to activate FSD.
Tesla needs to open more delivery / service / collision centers. You should not have to drive hours to get your car serviced or repaired after an accident. Northern Indiana is a Tesla desert with the only repair / collision centers being in Chicago. What a traffic nightmare. Tesla needs to plan out service centers like they plan out charging stations. You should only have to drive so far to get to one. You should not have to travel to the next state to get your vehicle repaired.
I know Tesla is trying to make vehicles need less service but accidents happen. Tesla needs more repair / collision centers so you do not have to drive to the next state to get your vehicle repaired. Having a large, delivery, service, collision center in Northern Indiana would spread out the overall service area.
Many people are reluctant to buy a vehicle from a company that has no dealers / delivery /collision or repair centers within a reasonable driving distance.

    • @LordTimelord
      @LordTimelord 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

FYI I just moved out of Indiana after living there for 8 years. There is a Tesla building in Indianapolis on the North side near I-69 and the loop around the city.
It would be a lot easier to get to there than to go to chicago.
I drive through that area all the time as I'm a Professional CDL driver.
Although I feel your pain as I moved to Northern Missouri.
When I bought my 2023 Model Y Long Range in December 2023. I had to drive all the way down to St Louis to pick it up.
The only service centers in Missouri are in St Louis and Kansas City 🤦‍♂️
If you do not have AAA, get their highest tier now! The reason why is Tesla's roadside assistance often only goes out 50 miles from the nearest service center.
AAA's highest tier allows towing up to 250 miles. So if your car ever breaks down you can get it on a flatbed all the way to a service center for sure!
Considering a 250 mi tow with a flatbed at this stage will cost you $300 to $500 for one instance. It is money well spent!
Also if you don't have one I recommend a Modern Spare Brand Tire and Jack system for your car.
They are pricey, but that plus the tools needed to change a tire should be in your vehicle.
This is especially important as you are not within the range of a service center the same as I am..
Advice from a CDL driver with over a million accident-free miles. 😉

Agree with what your saying Drew. $99 will probably bring in more subscribers not sure if it will 2X or 3X with this price but I'm thinking if Tesla made it between $25-$50 per month it could easily 10X or more subscribers of FSD. At least they're listening and understand at it's current state FSD isn't worth $12k or $200 per month, get it to level 4-5 and then you can charge that price, depending on economic conditions at that time.

  • @KJSvitko

FSD is making great progress. Tesla should allow owners to add FSD to a second owned Tesla family vehicle at a discounted price.
Someone that has purchased FSD should have a transferable license and be able to use it on multiple family vehicles.
Why has there been such a long delay to updating or refreshing the Model S and X interiors with the new ambient lighting.
Many people are holding off buying a new Model S or X while waiting for the new features. Why the slow roll out ?
The focus on FSD is great but the cars need timely updates to their features. The slow roll out hurts sales.
New features need to be rolled out promptly and not dragged out. The lack of focus on the Model S and X is hurting volume sales.
All the costs for research, development and amortization of manufacturing equipment for the S and X should be written off by now.
It is time to lower the prices of the Model S and X to reflect the reduced costs.

The FSD is amazing now, just got another update tonight. I have it on my 2 Tesla's. Love it. the new version is amazing and makes driving much easier, much safer and lots of fun. And it keeps getting better with time, just like fine wine....
I definitely will keep subscription, now at 50% off... I think Tesla's move is going to bring lots of subscribers.
On a personal note, In all honesty I have been a subscriber and using it since last June, and few months back I decided to cancel my subscription for a month, and I could feel the difference in driving and using the car.
It is hard to describe, but once you go FSD, there's no going back to regular auto-steer, the car will become dumb & boring to drive.
I find the new 99 usd/m subscription price reasonable, and is within reach of at least 70-80% of the Tesla drivers. I feel the car insurance premium will be lower if you use or subscribe to FSD in the near future.
Heck Netflix now is almost 30 usd/m.
Tesla is about to start generating lots of revenue... Go TSLA.

I believe licenses for personal use and (if it happens) robotaxi use will bifurcate and pricing of FSD for personal use will modulate to maximize revenue. Would be easy to detect "robotaxi" use,... long operating hours, very wide range of routes. The they can charge the much higher ownership (or by mile) rates for that use case but keep an enticing rate for loyal Tesla owners that want it for private use. They can get a sense for the take rate at 99 but I hunch that mainstream adoption has to be significantly lower. I'm an AI computer scientist and I probably wouldn't even get it at 99 until my finances are flush enough to not matter (effing china threatening invading taiwan or I would be there already :). 99 might triple the take rate but to be really mainstream I'm guessing something like 42$ a month will be needed. They could also try 69$ but even that might still hover in enthusiast niche territory. It's like 900$ a year or say 5k for the ownership period. You can get stuff for 5k. People might want other things. But if you are making 3-400k in silicon valley, 99$ is a no brainer. 99$ is a sandwich and a large soda

I have a 2023 RWD And it's been flawless with the only exception being having to change Lanes abruptly after making a turn to make a follow-up turn. Everything else has literally been perfect even in San Francisco roads. I'm curious if the 2023 models have upgraded internals or something interesting nonetheless

So I paid $6000 for enhanced AP a year ago.. This Highway Version never got converted to the FSD stack.. i paid $6k just so i can subscribed to FSD at $99. now with the price cut, looks like i got screwed out of $6000.- Elon, what are you doing to rectify this.?
is this how you treat existing customers that help you beta test all these years?

Don’t pay thousands to beta test if thousands is a meaningful number to you. I consider it a waste of money and always have. Nothing today really changes that. Save some money and don’t subscribe to fsd. Driving isn’t hard and babysitting a car isn’t productive or relaxing.

I have EAP with FSD @ $99 Now we are all cheated out of $6k. We need to file a complaint with BBB for this bait and switch tactic by Tesla. This is extremely unfair practice..!! If Tesla doesn't fix this.. I will cancel my FSD.

FSD is only worth no more than $50/month. FSD sales are over

$12k is a deal if Tesla solves FSD soon. And if that is the case, kiss that $100 per month goodbye.

Insurance companies will force legislation eventually. When it comes to wheeled transportation, humans will be restricted to scooters.

Until it's $50 a month or $500 a year, FSD will only ever be 'a luxury' the average vehicle owner will never consider paying for. Much as StarLink is still a luxury option at its present cost. FSD needs to become a standard licensed component of every new car on the market, much as NACS is for charging plugs (NASS 'North American Self-driving Standard'?) 2.5million currently registered EVs on US roads= a LOT of annual income. Then add the ever increasing numbers as we climb the EV bell-curve. It'll pay for all the R&D Tesla has done on this over the years, and then be a constant income stream until some other competitor comes along for their share of a planetary market. Tesla's biggest problem in years to come will be from anti-monopoly legislation I'd suggest?

Starlink is NOT a luxury for those who live in remote locations it’s literally the only option and for what you get it’s a great deal maybe you are just poor

_as we climb the EV bell-curve_
What bell curve? Less than 1 percent of cars in America are Tesla.
      And sales are DOWN lately.

I’m confused by one thing: can you really get FSD in a used Tesla from someone other than Tesla?!?

    • @carabaoboy
      @carabaoboy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's licensed to the car not the owner, so you can get it on a used car. There have been exceptions/problems with salvage titles, though. I would make sure to have it in the contract with the seller to cover yourself too.
If you trade it in to Tesla, though, they remove it so a buyer has to pay for it again. They claim to give you value for it on trade in, but I am pretty sure it's not 12k.
