I don't believe her for a second. No one leaves a "beloved car" in the hands of someone else to fix for two years. I haven't even heard the case fully but I believe his side as it's more plausible.
Yes they will. I worked as a mechanic. If the mechanic starts major work on it what are your options? Most people don’t have throw away money to try their luck somewhere else.
She had already paid for the work he just hadn't done it. He didn't know what he was doing and simply didn't care. Mechanics like to hold people's car hostage, rarely do people just abandon it. They "leave" the car there cus the mechanic is demanding money the person doesn't have.
I'm a mechanic and the defendant is correct all you have to do is extract the the bolt either she knows someone at Firestone that wrote up a false estimate or Firestone is full of ship
I’ve had some really bad experiences at Firestone. They have lied every time I’ve gone there. If she junked her car because of what Firestone told her then she needs to sue Firestone.
FYI - Guys, when you buy a new shirt, put it on a hanger the night before and hang it on the towel rack. Then take a long steamy shower. I applaud him for dressing his best when appearing on this show. Other litigants show up in club clothes or trailer park lounge wear!
Trailer park lounge wear 😂😂 u need to corner the market I know a few who Would trade their brand new personally repaired for some trailer park lounge wear
I like the judge's smirk (9:33) at the defendant's distinction between "a lie" and "just not the truth." People in the Middle Ages who said the Earth was flat weren't necessarily lying. They truly thought the Earth was flat, which was not the truth.
I'm betting the people who she went to lied to her about what was required to get money out of her. She fell for it and probably then sold the liars the car for a few hundred. Same thing almost happened to my mother. A lot of mechanics think women are dumb and will prey on their ignorance. Unfortunately, it sounds like she fell for it.
She went to Firestone. My experience with Firestone is they lie about your car to try to get more money out of you. What they said was wrong with my car was so out of their butt it was ridiculous. I would never go to Firestone.
Acura told me my car should be junked that the repair was 12k...I took it to a coworker he fixed it for 300 told me never sell it it's a great car...FIRESTONE IS FOS... those kinda places always over charge and find something wrong
Firestone... My trust in them 0. I took my car to two of them and they messed my car up. Told me I needed tires when it was my axle that they were originally paid to repair but I find out that they never repaired.
She was going to lose the case just for leaving car with him for TWO YEARS. In other episodes, but not with cars, JM would tell plaintiff to pay defendant storage fees bc he didn't have to hold it that long! It's considered abandoned property!
When folks come in suing for a delusional amount of money and then say they junked the car for pennies. You already know its a 98.8 percent chance they're gonna leave embarrassed.
Yeah he made it seem like stripped threads in a crankshaft was an easy fix. Firestone is telling her scrap it because changing the crank to get good threads on the crank bolt isn’t worth it. I don’t know if you could tap or helicoil a crank but I know I wouldn’t.
I also twisted a wrench for 25+ years and totally agree with you that's why the serpentine belt flew off in a short distance as she described. If the crank shaft bolt is striped the car is probably not worth fix correctly.
I will say JM always wants to embarrass someone, you knew all of that information and wanted her to tell you and you’re asking questions as if she was trying to lie upfront. Judge Judy summarizes the case when she starts so Judge Judy would have already mentioned the girl’s suspended license without question 😅
she wants to see if they'll lie lol. shes not as intimidating as Judy given her age and slightly less rigid demeanor the same tactics likely wouldnt work
Both times I took my car to Firestone, they screwed it up. A NEW engine? Yeah, right. I think the guy should have got something from the women. At the very least for storage.
Why didn’t the plaintiff get a second opinion after the Firestone estimate? And if the defendant knew about the bolt issue why didn’t he just fix it? If you’re gonna go out of your way for someone do it right for your own integrity. I mean it’s about you doing right regardless of how messed up the other person turns out to be. The defendant knew the plaintiff was a mess in the first place.
Wasn't Firestone the second opinion? She went to him first. Maybe a third mechanic would've gotten her right. He lied and said he didn't have to bother it. Then he said he did. I'm going to need the judge to not act like people don't drive without having a license.. so she could've been telling the truth about wanting her car but didn't want to say that to a judge, knowing she didn't have a license at the time he was "fixing" the car. Not making excuses but just being real. They both were being foolish though.
If you strip the crank bolt the crank is no good and is cheaper to replace the engine but what happen here is he didn’t get the pulley all the way on the crank so the bolt only grabbed a very little of the threads and stripped them and since it’s a pressed pulley the threads that are left are not reachable because the threads that are there are stripped and will not pull the pulley all the way in to reach the threads that are still there. So I agree with the mechanic that wrote the report
That woman has drama written all over her face. She fully plans on getting her revenge. Also, extremely naive if she thinks you can't replace a bolt for about $5. Yes, I have worked on cars for many years. It's a bolt. Even if you have to drill it out, it can be done cheap. Quoting for a new engine over should be reported as crime and to the BBB.
If the threads are stripped on the end of the crank shaft that means the crank shaft needs to be replaced. Which means pulling the engine and rebuilding the bottom half which means it's probably cheaper to replace the engine and if her car isn't worth an engine replacement then it's junk and this guy destroyed her car.
The audacity of her to sue him. Especially after leaving her car on his property for over a year. Girl please throw those overly used lashed away and sit down. I cant with people
The plaintiff is absurd and ridiculous. There's nothing positive about her. 🥴. Then she has the audacity to have a nasty attitude on top of everything.
Of course the shop told her that she had major problems with the car, IT WAS FIRESTONE. She probably went in there and told them exactly what she had already had done and they took her for a fool, and thought she would pay to have a new engine put in. I doubt that many people have ever heard about the legal problems that Firestone has had for over charging and repairing things that didn't need repairing. They were bankrupt for a long time and are still trying to get themselves back to making a profit, which is why they charge so much. I have my vehicle fixed there when it's something that I want to be able to utilize the warranty on while traveling. Other than that I stick to tires and lifetime alignment package. It only makes sense to pay more than you would to your neighborhood mechanic if you are repairing something that you would need to take to the original repair shop for warranty work and Firestone is a national chain that can be found in nearly every state. If you don't have a repair that comes with a warranty then go somewhere else, I guarantee it'll be cheaper. They have to get the money to pay back their creditors from somewhere, and the customer is always going to be that somewhere.
