I would say the main difference is the shape of pressing without the ball, as Flick's Bayern was settled and established to recover the ball exactly after losing it. Barça in that match especifically was always caught in transition, cuz the team wasn't correctly positoned to make the press, that's what costed the most many times last season, I think🙌. Great video btw!!

then how would you compared it to the Barca of the 2022/2023 season? high press, many recovers. As I see it the lack of a pivot as Busquets should be way more study

@@kaustralishamal2054 You are right, there is relation with the lack of pivot as well, but I think the thing is on the first line of pressing, the attack wasnt doing the job that needed to be done, Lewa, Felix and all of that. But yeah, having a positional pivot probably would solve part of the problem🙌

I think the difference is Flick's Bayern had Goretzka who acted like a box-to-box midfielder with physicality, one who could win the ball and press effectively. While Pedri & Frenkie are both exceptional on the ball I don't think neither of them are in the mould of Goretzka. Gavi could be coached into one though. He's a much better presser & a natural ball-winner than the afore mentioned two.

Difference is how the fullbacks and attackers are positioned, in flick's team the fullbacks occupy more advanced aggressive wide positions while the attackers are playing in a deeply centered position. In xavi's system the attackers are holding wider positions while the fullbacks are always behind taking more of conservative role.

I 100% agree with u on what u said about pedri and the difference of playing him deeper or higher up the pitch as i also feel like he's wasting his ability with his back against the goal, which is one thing i hate with spain tactics in the euros atm even tho fabian is playing amazing in that deeper playmaking role with rodri espacially againt italy today (my motm 100%). And the big difference i see between hansi's bayern and our tactics is probably the amount of defensively minded or focused player which created a much more balanced approach even tho u play an attacking football. With players like kimmich, pavard and goretzka for example and also davies who's a bit stronger than balde defensively imo. They have those players in areas where we have de jong, pedri and cancelo playing who are all players who likes to roam from their positions and be creative with less focus of defense which often creates dangers on the counters. Another thing as you said is ofc the vertacality, but in xavi's defense we don't really have a strong vertical player in the attack espacially with the hate towards roque and him not playing who could've been the solution in some situations... Another reason nico would be an amazing addition.

I should also say that its not only the players but also about understanding and taking precaution of being ready to defend when in possesion, meaning playing possesion in a way that makes you less vulnerable if u loose the ball which i think pep implements pretty good in man city too.

    What's even crazier is that,
Along with those midfield Maestros in Pedri, Dejong and Gundo,
If Gavi can come back to where he left off,
He can easily Be a Fix/Sub for ANY of them if/when necessary.
    1. The De Jong role:
He can easily be the midfielder to drop deep and be the 1st man to bring numerical advantage in the backline and progress according to the needs, be it by flowing through the pressure or connecting with the rest for a quicker progression.
OOP, he's the bull of the team anyways.
    2. The Pedri role:
Maybe not yet as comfortable as Pedri in dictating the tempo of the game being a Top teams only Creator, but he has the technical ability to do an OK-job on that role. Has to improve his Range of passing too.
    3. The Gundogan role:
Now , for that role the 10 needs to make the quickest of touches and the best of decisions to bear the best fruit or create a chance.
Plus he has to be a relentless attacker of space both on and without the ball, there won't be any problem for him in being the 1st player to make the press either.
Somewhat similar to the invertered- LW from Xavi's Box mid field tactics which he excelled at.

What I'll be interested in seeing is how Flick gets around the physicality issue. Gavi and Pedri are very good, but they're also a bit size challenged. Frenkie is pretty good but he's not exactly powerfully built either. And having that trio of gifted midfielders, how exactly do you then not play all three somehow? But if you play all three, what exactly do you do with Gundogan?
I could see a 4-3-2-1 happening, just to fit everybody in. Attacking fullbacks for width, Gundogan as a roaming attacking mid, Raphinha as second striker, and Lewandowski up top.
Well, I could see that based on the players but I'm not sure it has quite the physical punch and pace that Flick would likely prefer. Bayern 19-21 had people like Kimmich, Pavard, Alaba, Davies, Muller, Boateng, and of course Goretzka to the extent his fitness allowed. Decent enough technique in that bunch but also people that could simply muscle their way through, which was why Bayern was so dangerous. They could finesse a game or they could just punch you in the face, and often enough they'd do both.
Looking at the Barca team, there's a huge amount of technical proficiency, but there's not a lot of blunt force to fall back on when the finesse approach fails.

At Flicks Bayern the fullbacks used to create and overload on the flanks by constantly making overlapping runs.
I also think Lewandowski had more trust in his teammates creating chances for him at Bayern. At Barca we often see him go deep or wide to recieve the ball when he gets impatient. When he does this, the box lacks a scoring threat. At Bayern he was always in the box and his team was able to feed him all the time. I hope Flicks system can reinstate some trust in Lewa.

Other overall differences include the teams pressing and marking, the high defensive line.

Flick wanted his Wingers, in the half-spaces closer to goal, so that they could link up with Muller and RL9 and also so they can score. The 8-2 loss to Bayern is a good example. Having wingers with pace in a 1v1 with ur CB isn’t where u wanna be. With Pavard, he is more like Kounde instead of being a pure fullback, meaning he wouldn’t normally cut inside but he would stay wide to stretch the middle and attack of the opposition, so that the midfields”double pivots” would have more room.

A major difference is in counter attacks. Bayern scored lot of goals from the opposition’s failed attacks and also from a restarted game where they had the ball off target for a goal kick. Bayern prefer to reply that failed attempt immediately with their own attempt while Xavi prefers to either control or contain. The problem with Xavi’s approach is that the opposition gets even more brave to sacrifice more men when they see they can attack without any consequences. A Hansi Flick team would reply that fail attempt immediately.

In a 3 man midfield, I’d rather have a traditional pivot, with Pedri and Gavi/Gundo in front of him. And in a double pivot, I really think putting Pedri next to a traditional defensive midfielder would be perfect. In that case, Gundo and Fermin could slot in the number 10 position, while Gavi could play both the number 10 and in the double pivot

This doesn’t mean, to deploy him as a 10 but instead give him that free player sort of role to move around. This will liberate him of the duties of a 6 and maximise his potential as a creator and controller. I feel when he is positioned as the second pivot, there’s too much responsibility given to him, which limits his ability as a player. And we have to understand that he’s still very young.

But main issue with Xavi was he failed to fix the fitness/intensity/mentality issue at Barcanwhich also affected finishing, made many chances but didn't score. Barca just started messing the key passes. Fitness lacked too. Tactics are one thing but only players can execute them. In big matches team stopped playing in this way at all.

    @Lovrs98 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The difference between Xavi and Flick’s system is how the ball is moved quickly into the final third and how quickly it must be.
Under Xavi the objective was to get the ball in the final third by using quick passing sequences with the players interchanging positions to bypass the press. The ball doing the hard work and the players guiding it into the final third and the box
Under Flick, it is all about the players running into the spaces left in behind the defenders by using long passes from the midfield pivots and centre backs to the dynamic wingers, fullbacks and the 10 and from there providing crosses from half space into the box for the striker and the 10 making runs. The 10 is also responsible for drawing in the defenders with the unpredictable movements by dropping deep occasionally and making runs, providing the striker to have a one on one opportunity with the other CB if playing against a back four.

I know people are getting all sorts of opinions here as the difference among the two sides,
And tbf in my eyes, after reading all of those, ig all of the comments are right.
    1. But for me, a key key difference is the difference in ball playing progressive ability from a left footed CB,
    (DAVID ALABA)
There are many things Barca currently have at their disposal, that can imitate / Adapt accordingly as per Flick's blue print Bayern team,
but that "progressive ball playing CB in the "Alaba-profile" is something that was not visible in the Barca-valencia game. Barca is also missing THAT profile that can handle the left-foot dynamics from deep.
That hampered the penetration/progression from the left very predictable, as balde was given the complete responsibility of that.
A profile like Alaba not only Eases out the pressure on Balde, but also help in the team dynamics overall.

The problem with this lineup is that Frenkie proved consistently that he lacks many concepts in defense. Very limited defensive awareness and very bad positioning. He gets distracted too often, lacks the mentality.
He fixes this sometimes by using his physicality and has nice highlights in defense - correcting his own positioning or poor decisions in possession. But he gets disconnected very often. This match was an anomaly because his through passes were great, but that does not happen very often though

Disagree with Perdi playing as a deep lying playmaker. My reasons are unrelated to him during possession, I agree with all what you said there, I just think that a pivot of De Jong and Pedri is so weak in terms of ball winning especially Pedri. De Jong has a good engine on him but has concentration lapses and Pedri simply has a lot to learn. Thing is if I am against him being DLP, then that would I mean I think he is good as a high 8 or 10, I don't. I still think he also has a lot to improve in that regard, finishing to be precise. But for some reason I see him getting better at finishing more than I see him improving at reading the play and having a better body orientation while defending.
Edit: I think Gavi would be a much better DLP

One thing I'm very curious about is Raphinha's role. With Xavi he had his best performances on the left as an inside forward. But Flick likes his wide attackers and we know the right side is owned by Yamal. The club is looking to sign a more pure winger on the left so where does that leave Raph? I really hope Flick can find a way to fit him in, otherwise it's such a waste and we might as well sell him.

Flick Wingers tend to cut inside more than stay out wide and hug the touchline like Xavi wingers.

I would prefer cubasi and de Jong as pivot and gavi and pedri as 8 and 6 players and play faye as Lb as faye cubasi ariugo and kounde as back 4 in papper it 4:3:3 but in positional play it’s 3:2:2:3 if we can sign nico this system is unstoppable

    • @Nobe-thoughts
      @Nobe-thoughts หลายเดือนก่อน

Faye ariugo and kounde is pace and straight which mean we can stop counter attack easily and cubasi as coming to midfield in positional play mean we can read the next counter attack from the opposition fast because he read the game exceptionally

Bro as a barca fan right now de Jong isn't replying for contract renewal. So i want de Jong to sell for 80 million and also if barca has chance to bring minimum 50 from Fermin lopez barca need to sell him also. After these 2 moves barca need to sign Youssef fofana, amaud onana, angelo stiller and mikel merino.

Xavi had some horrible games last season. We barely do shooting practice and it's affecting us in games. Flick's Bayern was extraordinary in 2020 scoring from different kind of play; counter attack, direct and passing. If only Flick can transform Barca to play like his former Bayern side we would have a great season
