    Be sure to check your (TIPM) fuel pump regulator relay first. It's a $50 part to fix and is as simple as replacing fuses. T. hese are notorious in the 3.6 in this year range, and somehow the T&C was left out of the recall... the part can be ordered from 'Vertical Visions'.

    This is a good summary video for the job for new techs or those with a moderate amount of working knowledge on the vehicle or maybe even Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles. I have some questions and comments. So I'm mid-way on this job for a FFV '08 - not exactly the same configuration, but very close and I got the tank out eventually. I think my root issue was that the fuel gauge/float mechanism was faulty and the van just needed gas, even though gauge said 1/4 tank. Shop wanted $800 for the job and it doesn't appear they even tried putting gas in the tank since it was near bone dry when I got it down. This is (was) a reputable AAA certified shop that's been around for over 40 years so I know they had the tools to scan for voltage on sending unit and float mechanism outputs. I wanted to see more in video about the method for checking fuel pressure. As best I could tell (several months ago), the only way was to partially disassemble the rear passenger side of intake to access the fuel line disconnect. It doesn't look like that was how it was done in video. Not a big deal overall though. Also, you should mention that disconnecting the filler hose from tank is/can be a bear, especially since you have to be careful not to demolish the brake lines finish which will eventually cause them to rust out. This took me at least an hour . . . I wasn't sure about doing the tank cleaning step and wish I hadn't since it's now unclear how to drain the water/solvent mixture - the filler connection seems to extend into tank so that you can't use it to drain the tank. Any tips there would be great; I really don't want to have to buy the hand pump. Also, learning on the fly, I realized you have to push the fuel connector tabs IN and not pull them out. This was mentioned in the video but a more focused explanation would have saved me from breaking a few of them. Local parts stores are limited in these items. Can you recommend a source (other than dealer)? I really just need the push-in tab and safety retainer clips for the two larger carbon canister connectors, and also a safety retainer for the return line connector in front of tank. SORRY FOR THE BOOK, but I think I hit on a few others' concerns as well. Thanks!

      Napa carries the clips. They are for GM 5/16 fuel line clips I think they call them

    I'd be nice if you told us where to hook up the pressure relief gauge! You also didn't mention anything about how to drain or siphon out tank with gas in it.

    If this is intended to be for a novice, this person is remiss in not specifying the reason for using a brass tool on the retainer ring of the fuel pump. Steel on steel can cause a spark, possibly a spark that you will not live to see... steel on brass or better yet brass on brass (in case you miss the tool and hit some other metal) will NOT cause a spark. This is the reason that people who work with flammable vapor plumbing lines always use brass tools.

    Thanks for the video of the fuel pump. I'd suggest the video include the fuel filter which a commenter stated is in the pump assembly. Also include a price of your part and the labor times. I'm inclined to buy from you as a thank you, since I have to get one, for the video even though the video didn't answer my question about the fuel filter.

    • @AirtexFuelPumps
      @AirtexFuelPumps  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comments. The goal of our videos is the installation process. Most modules, this one included, do have a permanent strainer or filter as part of the module assembly. Pricing is done at the retail level. We do not participate in that decision. Labor times are like the retail price. There are several companies that publish flat rate labor times. It is up to each shop as to what they charge.

    Does the 2010 3.8L engine have a schrader valve in the fuel system to test the pressure, or does it require use of the adapter inline with the fuel supply? If adapter is required, would it be best to measure at the engine or somewhere back towards the tank?

  • @cowboystuff2002

    Can or does, Seafoam harm the fuel pump? I can hear the fuel pump run for approx 1 1/2 seconds, but no fuel and no fuel pressure. Even at the fuel filter, which is not plugged.

    • @adumius
      @adumius ปีที่แล้ว

      How can you check the fuel pressure at the fuel filter? The fuel filter is in the fuel pump assembly. That’s impossible.

    • @cowboystuff2002
      @cowboystuff2002 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fuel filter is usually bolted to the frame about 1/2 way between the fron a back. If you have one line disconnected from the filter at that point, and you turn on the key, fuel should come out of that line. You check the fuel pressure on the port on the fuel rail on the top of the engine. If no gas comes out of tha line by the filter and you hear the pump running, you probably need a new fuel pump@@adumius

      I believe the filter is part of the fuel pump inside the tank on the 2008 and newer. You replace it as a unit.

    • @Mn09lfV6f
      @Mn09lfV6f 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jbalibre0667 that sucks, means on higher mileage van if filter clogged than might as well replace the whole pump since you've done all the work and a old pump is likely to fail in the near future. Hate these designs- which are done to force owner to pay more in repairs. Gives reason to stay with older cars that are simpler- like and exposed in line fuel filter that can be changed on the ground in 10 minutes.

      @@Mn09lfV6f if you take it to a shop they might take about 1 1/2 hours - 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. But if you are a DYI type and you are doing this for the first time. Then just double the time spent considering you probably dont have a vehicle lift and not experienced in this type of repair.

      AND REMEMBER TO HAVE PROPER VENTILATION! And wear safety equipment (safety glasses, waterproof gloves, and if possible a mask that prevents you from inhaling harmful fumes) because you will be working with a toxic and nauseous liquid. (Keeping a fire extinguisher nearby would also be advisable)

    How many miles can I expect my fuel pump to last? My van is at 104K and when idling I can feel a little hiccup. Not sure if that's it but no error codes exist either for me to think it's anything else. I feel a 104K is a little early for it to go but what are your thoughts?

      Mine hit 231k, and I went out today, and it is done.I will be under it as soon as the pump gets here.
      I just changed what must be the original plugs. The ground tip is burned completely off on two of them.
      It ran beautifully, with 21 mpg.
      Now it misses, with NGK plugs, and 14.6 mpg!
      Just ordered coil pack and plug wires.

      Flat rate labor from ALLDATA for this vehicle: R&R fuel pump : Does not include drain & refill or clean tank - 1.4 hours. Add 0.3 with Stow and Go seating. Cleaning the tank properly will increase the labor time.

    • @destruxxx
      @destruxxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The newer cars with GDI do have mechanical fuel pumps on the engine but they still need an electric lift pump in the tank to prime and de-aerate the fuel.

    • @susanjohnson3973
      @susanjohnson3973 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The newer pumps last a very long time.
      The filters generally last the life of the pump.
      Mine just quit today at 231 thousand miles.
      I have had others last longer, some shorter.
      The newer cars are more efficient, and go tens of thousands of miles, with no attention. I just changed what had to be the original plugs. The ground pin was burned completely off on two plugs.
      That's pretty good service.
