Mark Ogden is such a failed journalist. He incorrectly stated that Zirkzee and Hojlund are the same kind of players but they aren’t if he actually did research. Zirkzee compliments the wingers much more in transition while Hojlund could be more of a target man.

I like the Zirkzee signing. He’s a player who complements the inside forwards/ inverted wingers Rashford and Garnacho. He would drop into the hole and let them cut inside and the midfielders run past. He would play like a False 9 / Trequartista.

Yikes Mark Ogden made himself look like a fool here although he always does. Clearly he didn't do his homework at all. Hojlund and Zirkzee are completely different players. Hojlund is a tradition number 9 that stays in the box, a goal poacher. Zirkzee is like Kane where he likes to drop deep and get involved with build up play, facilitating the wingers by creating chances. Of course both are young and will need time but both are completely different in profile and playstyle and exactly what United needed, Striker depth and two very different profile of strikers. Hojlund and Zirkzee for the next decade will improve each other.

Normally I might agree with Ogden as he can sometimes talk a lot of sense, but on Zirkzee I totally disagree with him. Zirkzee is not like Hojlund at all and actually makes a great foil for the young Dane. Zirkzee is not an out and out striker, he plays a little deeper than strikers like Hojlund and is more about chance creativity than goals. He doesn't play where Hojlund plays and is a more technical player who dovetails well with the forward that he plays behind. Utd haven't bought him strictly for goals but for more unpredictability, and higher football IQ in the forward line, which he has in spades. He will be expected to play alongside the striker not as a striker, and that's also why Utd are looking at Ivan Toney, so they have a bit more experience up front and an option to Hojlund. I think Ogden is wrong on this occasion and Zirkzee is a great purchase when you consider he was Bologna's top goal scorer last season, was voted best young Serie A player of the season, and the price, plus Utd are looking at younger long term prospects too.

ESPN takes on any MUFC move: negativity and let's find a way to bash Ten Hag. Zirkzee is a non-elite addition to replace Martial. Makes the roster stronger. Their main focus, rightly so, is the back end, which was their biggest problem all season when their depth got exposed by the injuries.
