    I have 2 of their holsters and they have surprised me wirh their quality. I applied heavy boot oil to preserve gheir leather. On the other I rubbed Obenauff's boot oil (mink oil equivalent) rubbing into the stitching and burnished edges. Applied the leather protectant on both sides and sprayed silicone in the inside. Stuffed my 1911 in the holsters and let it sit overnight. Loosened uo a bit and fits my 1911 and Springfield SA35 just right.

      Don't put too much oil on them or they will get too soft

    I reached out to 1791 after my satisfied purchase and they sent me 2 keychains the shape of my state and some stickers. Great product and company.

    I bought this same holster for my Taurus 605, but in the regular natural tan finish. Bought it because of all the open top, no thumb break holsters I found for the gun, this one carries the gun just a little higher on the belt for easier concealment.

    If I may, I have had issues with tight leather on my guns also. Mink oil on the tight spots, then into the sun with the holster for about an hour, then put your weapon into it & let it sit a while. Usually does the trick on the first try. Repeat if necessary

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using leather softeners will ruin the molding of the holster and also will reduce the retention. Stretching the leather is very easy and will loosen it up quite a bit.

      I only used plastic bags and then waxed paper wrapped around the tool. It took a few sessions for mine to break in.

      Do you recall what model number of 1791 holster you purchased? I also have the Sig P365xl and thought this holster looks good. Also, I generally get a holster with a thumb break and was wondering if you have had any difficulty with the weapon slipping out. Thanks..

      @@markfaris5428 It is the "BCH open top multi fit" that is tan in color. It's a very good holster and no problem on it falling out . It is not a hi-ride snug to your body type but is a good one for EDC and you can slide into different positions. No problems!!

    Nice leather work. I like it. After you break it in, show us how it carries on your belt. It looks a little high to me, but it appears the belt slots are angled and that might make up the height difference.

    Nice gun and holster but that Mk25 was out of battery the whole time in the holster. That was a tight fit.

  • @OMGWUNSIU
    @OMGWUNSIU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It should fit the gun perfect right form the start. I would spend a little more money and get a custom holster that was made to fit your exact model firearm rather than a run of the mill holster. A custom ordered holster might be more money up front, but it will last longer than you will and fir perfect.

    • @BoomStickTactical

      All good leather holsters have to be broken in.

    • @ytTaz480
      @ytTaz480 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With all due respect, that is not entirely true. DeSantis do not have to be broken in. And they are better than good leather holsters. Im not knocking other leather holsters. In fact Ive considered many, including the one presented here(P226 holsters arent easy to find these days). Ive just had the best luck with DeSantis. My preference is the thumb break scabbard variety(I prefer the added retention on top of friction). I have one for almost all of my handguns. I also like the Safariland ALS concealement holsters(6378/7378). But theres just something about the feel and "creak" of leather! Thank you for the video.

    • @OMGWUNSIU
      @OMGWUNSIU 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BoomStickTactical I guess it depends how you define broken in. yesterday I finished a holster for my new CZ75 tactical and I wet molded it to the gun. There is no break in necessary it fits absolutely perfect.

  • @wewd
    @wewd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe I'm wrong but that holster looks like it was made for the non-railed version of the P226, or at least the regular type of rail, not the 1913 rail of the MK25. You might be able to stretch it out but I'd swear its not the right size for that MK25.

    • @BoomStickTactical
      @BoomStickTactical  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is specifically for the railed version. It fits like a glove now. The non railed version is noticeably different

    Is the trigger guard not completely covered a problem?

  • @backlash00
    @backlash00 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Great review but I couldn't help noticing that the hoster trigger guard area clearly does not match the shape of your p226. I have one for my p320. I have no idea how long it will take to break it in. Gota love 1791 Gunleather. I'm pissed I didn't get a keychain.
