I read the book, Slave Ship Amistad, and saw the movie. Both were great. The book was the best. I do not agree with the idea that he may have become a slave trader himself after he returned to Africa. What intelligent person would do that? He was highly intelligent. In the book, it said that many Americans were so taken with Cinque and his African religion, that they converted to it. He won his case in court with the help of President John Adams, his lawyer. All the slaves captured off the coast of Connecticut with Cinque were freed and were sent back to Africa. However, I don't believe missionaries accompanied them. For what? They were not going to be welcome in Africa anyway, because it was their desire to convert Africa to Christianity. So, no reason for there to be missionaries helping the kidnapped men to be reacquainted with their homeland. What would missionaries know about their homeland, Africa? Some things said in this video were just wrong. But, it is good to see a video of such a great man.

In some of the letters he, and a few other Mende folks wrote to John Quincy Adams, they mentioned that there were Missionaries with them.
