my brother had this watch while he was in the military and he thought it was great, he said all the functions it carried out were useful, as it meant he always had a back up compass on his wrist! it is now in my possession and i like it cause it is just awesome in so many ways... probably not what you were looking for, but it may help :)
I regularly use the Casio Pathfinder in the bush on hikes and calibrate the compass before each hike so that I know it is accurate. I have used this watch for many years and have complete faith in it's accuracy. I recently bought the Casio Pro Trek PRG 270 and am looking forward to getting similar service from it.
I have this watch. Very good! I like it a lot. Easy to read and easy to use the functions. The time keeping is excellent, and the ABC readings are very close when checked against a compass, and GPS readings. I am very impressed with this watch. The batteries are not easy to changed for the novice. The battery type is a medical grade battery and are not cheap. But, the watch including battery changes are well worth the cost!

@appletitable : Solar power is not the only new feature in PAG240. It has better functions for altimeter, world time zone, sunrise/sunset time etc etc. More features than PAG40. One of the PAG240 model costs 147$ on amazon, just 28$ more than PAG40-5v model. Worth it :D.
press the barometer. then press and hold adjust until stuff starts blinking. press mode to move around until the C starts blinking and then press comp and alti to change it. us this also to set the temperature. when ur done just press adjust again to set it and mode to return to timekeeping and ur donskies.
@VeronicasMidget: Not sure whether fault battery cell is common problem in PAG240 series.. I've not faced it so far.. About the decision to buy PAG40 or PAG240, well, I would say definitely go far the latest model.. For instance, Would you prefer buying Iphone 2G over iphone 4g? :) Same applies here.. Thanks..
@geartrail would you recommend this for military use? I am 11 bravo infantry and I worry that a nice watch like this would break during training or a deployment. I really want it but I can't find a good review for a military purpose. Thankyou

Tried replacing my batteries before and it did not work, so brought it back to the store and they gave me a new one. Now the battery is low again, and am scared to replaced to batt and it wouldn't work. HELP! I leave for LDAC on Friday and it would be nice to have this working.
I seriously hate the main display though. Why is there no gap between the number of minutes and number of seconds? It looks like there's 1000 minutes in every hour, it's just stupid & cluttered. There's even no difference in the size of the numbers, at least make the number of seconds in far smaller digits. The thing I do like about the PAG-40 compared to the PAG-240 is the larger graph display though.

How do you calibrate the compass, I don't have a manual
I'm wearing it since April 2003. Bateries were changed for 2 times only. Main hero from Man on Fire movie weared this model also

I have this watch, and the batteries are dead. There are 4 one the inside & 2 of them are really hard to get out, any ideas?

Yes you can switch to celsius ;)
i think you read it wrong with temperature, it says in your watch its 84 *F not Celsius.
