Hi , it’s a personal choice in reality , it protects the video stream and adds a layer of security in, if you don’t use it then make sure you don’t use default ports and use complex passwords etc. , and any additional security measures that you think are fit for purpose

IMHO changing the port is does not really add security but it can make it harder for noobs to find it. I have tried to use it but the problems it seems to create (probably my configuration errors) can be troublesome. Seems like both 4200 and connect/4500 loose the key after some time? Then users complain they don't know what it is and is a phone call. 4200 lite does not have a place to add it like he regular version does. Is that your experience? Am I implementing the key incorrectly somewhere?

Hi , thanks for the feedback , its fine to use them on Turbo 4.0 , if you use the new 5MP model and only have HQHI-K model DVR it will downgrade image to 4MP lite , if using HUHI-K it will use 5MP , hope this helps 😀
From the HikConnect documentation I read: "The Stream encryption function encrypts the video stream sent from NVR and user needs to input verification code for live view or playback." We have to realize one thing. One is the streaming from the NVR (HikConnect) to the user, another thing is the streaming from the source (the camera) and the server. My question is: what about the stream from the camera to the HikConnect. Is that encrypted as well? I have my serious doubt on this as the camera doesn't provide any key configuration for stream encryption (eg: encryption key). Or, does HikVision cameras use a custom streaming protocol in case of Platform Access enabled? Thank you for the helpful answer.
Marco and thanks for the question , actually on the latest models and firmware the camera itself also has this function not just the NVR / DVR , so if you use HIK-Connect on the edge device direct to P2P this can also do the encryption key , I hope this helps 😊
I face a problem in Hik-Connect when I open cameras ( the network is unstable connecting again) and sometimes I face ( the device is offline) plz I need your help to solve this 🙏🙏
One more thing. I cannot use the live Playback option in the browser for my NVR. I tried IE with the installed plugin, IE tab in chrome and almost anything I could think of and found on the interweb. I get only grey screens.

it should save it , but if its not working you can go into the HIK-Connect app itself on the phone ,under added device setting turn off stream encryption and this will disable it full time if this helps?

Can you please ask Hikvision to update their firmware to add stream encryption support for the intercom touch screen (DS-KH6320-WTE1). Also h.265 support. At the moment you can only add camera feeds to the screen if you have cameras set to h.264 & stream encryption off.
ok are you using Internet explorer? If not try that , and if so try go to control panel, then under uninstall programmes uninstall web components , then when you browse next to the device on IE install the web component again, them go to internet settings and clear the browser cache , then it should work

Hi , it could be the H.265+ if your using this , but on the local GUI it should be under network , advanced, platform access , and then stream encryption, does this help?

Once I disable stream encryption everything runs like it should, perfect video image. I guess hikvision's encryption feature is buggy software wise or a compatibility issue between encrypted stream and vlc, but I doubt it has anything to do with vlc. Another thing this FW v. is buggy. The video settings, namely resolution, bitrate, fps changed from within the Video/Audio page from within the browser are being discarded and do not get applied. If however I change them from within the NVR's config menu, they do get applied and together with stream encryption DISABLED, I get a perfect video feed. Once I enable encryption, it results in garbled grey/green screen i.e. corrupt video feed. However iVMS 4200 app has helped me, while I couldn't make the the Playback feature from within the browser work. I tried all gimmicks, IE tab, IE explorer, Edge, everything and I am tech savvy. iVMS 4200 playback feature works flawlessly. I don't think that enabling encryption in iVMS4200 will make a difference.

What about adding NVR Cameras to Indoor stations, there is no options to enter an Encryption Key. So must I disable Enc if I wanted to stream camera's to my indoor "villa" stations. (I've the new Android versions)

I’m having the same issue. I’m wanting to stream the rtsp feed to my raspberrypi and it doesn’t work. With VLC I get the grey garbled screen you mention despite the fact that the username and password are in the url. I’m guessing there must be an additional parameter that you add to the rtsp url to set the encryption key but it doesn’t seem to be documented. Did you ever get it sorted?
Hi everybody. After I installed hikvision Camara everything was fine I could watch the video from my phone but the problem is after hulf an hour when I was trying to go to the app is asking encryption passwords. Could u pls tell me where I get this password. Thanks

Hi , it should be there if it’s not try clearing the browser cache and uninstall and reinstall the web components, that should sort it

Local appears only when running the config web page from within IE.

@Dvsltd is there a support issue with using MS Edge browser with Hikvision, unable to active the plug in
most modern firmware uses pluginless option , and the web component doesn’t work with Edge, can you use IE for full functions still

It becomes a normal stream so technically you can use RTSP to get the stream if you know the username and password ,
