Fun fact; both Rahat and Amjad are singing renditions of this classical Qawwali sung by their respective houses for generations! Both slightly different renditions coming together as one!

Unfortunately, Amjad Sabri is no longer alive! His voice was on another level! This song was also a rehearsal so they decided to upload it. Amjad died shortly after 💔

For sitting crossed leged, this type of music is called Qawali and it normally last more than hours so the best posture to sit comfortably for longer period in a formal way is this crossed leged position.
In subcontinental culture, people like to sit on the floor and this position is quite common for sitting.

The thing about the singing stance is that the concerts or shows of this genre ( qawalli )are around 4,5 hours long so they had to sit.

Two absolute gems of two absolute giant musical families of Pakistan , Khan's and Sabri's
Also the same qawwali was sung by ancestors of both singers together.

Hi British GB Boy! Thanks for this awesome reaction video. I have really enjoyed and appreciated all of your Coke Studio reaction videos (since I am such a HUGE fan of Coke Studio Pakistan... and Nescafe Basement). This one in particular is a classic for me... after all, how many 12-minute songs can one sit through! And this one just captivates you to the point you lose track of time and place.
You may have acknowledged it in other videos so I'm sorry if I am repeating things you know already... but this unique style of song is known as a "qawwali". It is a centuries' old genre which was primarily religious in nature (hence all the religious references... most of which even I don't get). And through the centuries, the qawwals (qawwali singers) have maintained most of the traditions (singing while sitting, one or two main singers and then the "backup" singers, harmonium and tablas, the use of clapping, etc). It was primarily used by the Sufi Muslims from the early times of pre-partition India in Muslim areas (not quite the mainstream Muslims but accepted in today's Pakistan and Muslim parts of India) and these qawwals would perform at shrines of Muslim saints (again, not part of mainstream Islam). They would always perform sitting - never ever standing - whether on the floor of the shrine or maybe on a stage in an auditorium in more recent times. For those who are used to it, I'm guessing sitting cross-legged is the most comfortable position if you are to remain seated for 2-3 hours at a time.
Another thing that used to happen back in the day, was that this specific type of devotional music would put people in a trance where they would start swaying and even twirling (as in the Sufi whirling dervishes)... so that gradual buildup of tempo leads to that uncontrollable movement. It happens to me and maybe to you too whenever I hear this song is the uncontrollable tapping and nodding that just escalates with the beat and tempo. If you get into the longer versions of these qawwalis, they can really put you into a trance (with the exact same effect as trance music would have on you with the same purpose).
The last thing I want to mention about why this particular Coke Studio song is so special to me - right here in the studio, you have two legends from two legendary qawwali families singing together (I believe for the first time ever... and sadly last time) creating SUCH a gem! When I was growing up in the 70's, Pakistan had two dynastic qawwali families that ruled the qawwali world giving us one gem after another... the Sabri Family qawwals and the Fateh Ali Khan Family qawwals. Not exactly rivals but lets say each holding their own and distinct styles. But here seeing their children/grandchildren who are keeping the tradition of the families going, singing together in SUCH a harmonious, respectful-to-their-art - and to each other - is mind-blowing and uplifting. (By the way, Rahat's uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is THE KING of qawwali, not only in Pakistan and India but also worldwide, especially after his collaborations with Peter Gabriel and Eddie Vedder - yet Nusrat's qawwali style was more traditional).
    Sorry for the long post.
    I'm a Pakistani-origin Fan from Chicago!

Many songs ( not all) of Pakistani singers talks about love between God (Allah) and the man, spiritual connection with Guider who guide the man to Allah.
I must say English translation can not convey the message or intensity of feelings the urdu lyrics actually describing. The power of words and soulful lyrics can be felt well if somebody knows urdu.
