Today I’m going to show you how to set and configure your apple watch for HYROX

This is going to allow you to know in real time during the race if you are keeping to the pace and time you’ve got in mind for each of the 1km runs segments and track on the go your time in each of the 8 exercise stations.
On the watch screen throughout you’ll have your heart rate, your total on-going time and the interval split time for the specific run or exercise station you are completing.
Importantly by following each of the steps I go through you are not going to need to push any of the button on the watch or change screen during your race, all you are going to need to do to move between 1km runs and exercise stations is simple tap your watch face.
To do all this you are going to need to download the paid for version of the app, intervals pro. If I can find a free way of doing this within the native apple watch workout app in the future, I will provide an updated video with a tutorial on that.

Next on the ‘timers’ tab hit the plus blue icon in the bottom right-hand corner
Then tab ‘add’ custom interval timer’
Change the title name to ‘hyrox’ and tap on the ‘select an activity type tab’,
then on the next screen tap on the ‘select an activity type tab’ and select HIIT, then click done. Then on the next screen click on ‘indoor’, then click ‘back’.
Then on this screen click on internal one timer, rename this ‘Run 1km’ then set the timer to average time you are aiming to complete each of your 1km run splits in, and toggle on the ‘continue after duration’ option, then hit back
And then click on the internal 2 timer, rename this ‘ski’ and then set the interval time for this to ‘0’ and ensure as the previous step you toggle on the ‘continue after duration’ option.
Next you want to duplicate that Run 1k internal 8 times and you do that by holding your finger on in and selecting duplicate. You can enter different 1km goal split times but for simplicity I’m keeping them all to the same number.
Then repeat that duplication process for interval 2, now named ‘ski’
Once you are done rename 7 of the ‘ski’ intervals the other hyrox exercise stations, then scroll down and hit reorder to put them in the correct HYROX workout exercise order. Then hit done
And head back to the timers tab where you’ll see HYROX as one of your custom built timers.
Now the last critical step to take is to go to the ‘more’ tab in the app home screen, then under the quick tap actions - set ‘single tap’ to workout status and ‘double tap’ next interval, by doing this at any point in the race you can get your watch to audible read out to your current lap or exercise station time, and by double tapping you can transition to the next internal - which will either be your next 1km run or exercise station.
Your watch will ask you the 1st time you run the timer if you want to share data with the apple health app, tap yes if you want it all track and log your hyrox workout within the apple fitness app.
Under the logbook tap within the intervals pro app, you will have a complete breakdown and record of your run and exercise station split times, this can be incredibly helpful for any HYROX simulations you might be undertaking in your training to understand your detailed performance across the whole workout.

Was there a reason to set the time for the runs rather than distance?
Very helpful. Why do you set the stations to duration zero rather than expected time? I assume that if a run takes longer than expected the timer it keeps going till you double tap the screen?
I don’t understand if it track your pace or just your time?

What are you doing with the rox zone?
It is just factored into run or station splits. It would over complicate trying to add in meaning you need your touch the watch a lot more, which is a distraction you don’t want mid race.
Hiya, I’ve set this up and used it in training yesterday. Would it be possible to have the indoor running intervals so that I can keep on track of my running pace?
Set the whole work out up as an indoor run. Do 1k + open work x 8 repeats. This way on the runs you’ll get your interval pacing rather than just a timer. The only down side is the open work interval will include your Rox zone time to your station time but you could always add an extra open work for each repeat so you have a Rox zone time and a station time split up but would require more button pushing!
